• 2027 Election: Five Major Advantages of Peter Obi’s Defection From Labour Party to ADC as Opposition Coalition Gathers Momentum

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election, a move widely seen as a major boost for the opposition coalition challenging the ruling APC. Obi announced his decision on December 31, 2025, at a political rally held at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu State, alongside many of his loyal supporters popularly known as “Obidients.”

Analysts say Obi’s entry into the ADC offers several advantages. First, it strengthens the emerging national coalition against the APC by uniting two of the strongest opposition figures from the 2023 polls under one platform. Second, the move expands Obi’s political reach beyond the Labour Party’s base, especially into northern Nigeria where the ADC is gaining traction, while consolidating support in the Southeast.

Third, Obi’s defection helps present a unified opposition front, as the ADC has been adopted as the coalition platform for major opposition leaders ahead of 2027. Fourth, the decision is viewed as a sign of political maturity and flexibility, preserving the momentum Obi built among young voters while positioning him strategically within a broader alliance.

Finally, Obi’s move strengthens his bargaining power within the coalition, opening the door for negotiations around power-sharing arrangements, including the possibility of a vice-presidential slot on a joint ticket. Overall, the defection marks a significant realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape as opposition forces intensify preparations for the 2027 election.

  • PDP Zoning: Obi Must Be Wary Of ADC, Adibe Warns

Political analyst Prof. Jideofor Adibe has cautioned presidential hopeful Peter Obi to tread carefully in his dealings with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, stressing that the party’s zoning stance for 2027 remains uncertain.

Speaking on Channels TV’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, Adibe noted that while both the PDP and APC have zoned their 2027 presidential tickets to the South, the ADC is yet to decide — leaving room for northern aspirants like Atiku Abubakar to push for the slot.

Atiku, a key ADC coalition member, has declared interest in running, a move seen as a direct challenge to southern contenders such as Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi.

“If I were Obi, I would be extremely suspicious,” Adibe said, describing the political game as a “chess match” where vigilance and strategic foresight are essential.

He added that Obi is known for “not thinking on the surface” and likely has contingency plans, but warned that in the coming months the motives behind PDP’s zoning decision would become clearer.

The professor maintained that the unfolding scenario is a power struggle that could either strengthen or derail Obi’s 2027 ambition.

  • Obi Faults FG’s ₦142bn Bus Terminal Plan

Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has criticised the Federal Government’s approval of ₦142 billion for the construction of ultra-modern bus terminals across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

In a post on X, Obi described the project as a “misplaced priority,” arguing that it reflects poor judgment and lack of focus. He compared the allocation to the health sector, noting that the combined 2024 budget for all federal teaching hospitals and psychiatric centres is less than ₦100 billion.

He stressed that health remains underfunded despite Nigeria’s rising challenges, including over 20 million citizens reportedly living with mental health issues, according to WHO.

Obi called the decision a “tragic irony,” urging the government to focus scarce resources on critical sectors like healthcare.

He cautioned Nigerians, especially the youth, against selling their votes, stressing that doing so is equivalent to selling their future:
“When you sell your vote, you’re not just selling an election; you’re selling schools for your children, hospitals for your loved ones, and jobs that give dignity and hope.”

Obi further urged voters to elect leaders with competence, character, capacity, and compassion, while resisting intimidation, deception, or financial inducements during elections.

  • Obasanjo, Buhari Wasted 8 Years, Tinubu Has Nothing to Show After 2” — Dele Farotimi

Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi, has taken a swipe at former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, declaring that both men spent two full terms in office “without doing anything.”

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Farotimi also criticized President Bola Tinubu, claiming that over two years into his tenure, his administration has pushed the country backwards by “50 years.”

On the debate surrounding a one-term presidency as proposed by Peter Obi, Farotimi argued that Nigerians must demand clarity on Obi’s plans rather than focus on the duration of office. He stressed that meaningful change should be visible within a short time if a leader already has a clear vision.

Quizzing the practicality of Obi’s proposal, he said:
“A man says he’s going to spend one term. One term to do what? What are his plans?”

Farotimi concluded that leadership success should not be measured by years spent in power, but by the impact of policies and actions taken during the period.

  • By-Elections: Soludo Declares LP, ADC “Dead” In Anambra, Mocks Obi’s Coalition

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, says Saturday’s by-election results prove that the Labour Party (LP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) are “dead” in the state.

Speaking in Nanka during APGA’s victory celebration, Soludo taunted his predecessor Peter Obi — who backed ADC candidates — insisting that “ADC does not exist in Anambra. Labour Party is dead.”

In the Anambra South Senatorial District, APGA’s Emmanuel Nwachukwu won with 90,408 votes, defeating APC’s Azuka Okwuosa (19,847) and ADC’s Donald Amangbo (2,889). He replaces the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

INEC also declared APGA’s Ifeoma Azikiwe winner of the Onitsha North Constituency 1 by-election, Obi’s home constituency.

Soludo said the results sent “a very emphatic statement” that the ADC-LP alliance failed despite mobilizing top politicians.

The governor, a former CBN chief, is seeking re-election on November 8, 2025, under APGA.

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s call for a single tenure for Nigerian presidents. Speaking during a visit to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Obi proposed a five-year single term, arguing it would remove re-election distractions and allow leaders to focus solely on governance.

Obi’s stance mirrors Atiku’s October 2024 proposal for a six-year rotational presidency between Nigeria’s regions, submitted to the National Assembly as part of constitutional review efforts. Both moves challenge the current system, which allows two four-year terms, and signal a push for significant political reform.

  • Peter Obi Slams ₦712.3Bn Airport Renovation Amid Soaring Hunger: "Nation-Building Isn’t Runways!"

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has blasted the Federal Government for budgeting a whopping ₦712.3 billion for airport renovation — on the same day a UN report revealed that 34 million Nigerians face hunger.

Obi described the move as "profoundly troubling," questioning how such a massive sum could be justified for just one airport when millions are starving.

    > "A government that builds grandiose infrastructure while its people starve is not building a nation — it is betraying one,” Obi declared via X.

He reminded Nigerians that in 2013, a $500 million loan upgraded five airports — making the new single-airport allocation even more suspect.

Obi urged the Tinubu administration to rethink its budget priorities, stressing that food security is national security, and true development must begin with health, education, and lifting people out of poverty.
