Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi, has taken a swipe at former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, declaring that both men spent two full terms in office “without doing anything.”
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Farotimi also criticized President Bola Tinubu, claiming that over two years into his tenure, his administration has pushed the country backwards by “50 years.”
On the debate surrounding a one-term presidency as proposed by Peter Obi, Farotimi argued that Nigerians must demand clarity on Obi’s plans rather than focus on the duration of office. He stressed that meaningful change should be visible within a short time if a leader already has a clear vision.
Quizzing the practicality of Obi’s proposal, he said:
“A man says he’s going to spend one term. One term to do what? What are his plans?”
Farotimi concluded that leadership success should not be measured by years spent in power, but by the impact of policies and actions taken during the period.
