The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on all Nigerians to take decisive action to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse.
She made this appeal in Abuja on Tuesday during the commemoration of the World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse 2025.

This year’s global theme is:
“Strengthening the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse Through Evidence-Based Policy Making.”

Mrs Tinubu stressed that child protection must be a shared responsibility, urging parents, leaders, institutions, and young people to unite in building a society where children feel safe, valued, and protected.

“As a nation, we must ensure that every child grows up free from fear and harm,” she said.
She further emphasized that true protection requires more than speeches — it demands evidence-driven policies, accurate data, effective research, and actionable collaboration.

She called on government agencies, civil society, traditional and religious leaders, and communities to work collectively in creating safe spaces where children can thrive without the threat of abuse.

The World Day, observed every November 18, was created in 2015 by the Council of Europe and later recognized by the United Nations in 2022 to raise awareness, reduce stigma, support survivors, and strengthen global response to child sexual abuse.

Lagos Police Defy Court Order, Insist on Arresting Sowore Over Alleged Plan to Incite Protest

The Lagos State Police Command has maintained its stance on arresting political activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, over an alleged plan to incite violent protests in Lagos — despite a court order restraining the police from doing so.

Last Wednesday, Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court, Lagos, had issued an interim injunction barring the police and other security agencies from arresting, harassing, or declaring Sowore wanted, following an application filed by the activist.

“Any officer who sights him — whether on the road, in a restaurant, or elsewhere — should arrest him and bring him to the State CID for proper investigation.”

Jimoh said security operatives recently intercepted over 300 individuals allegedly mobilising for a violent protest on the Third Mainland Bridge, arresting 13 suspects and recovering a vehicle loaded with loudspeakers and a generator.

The Commissioner dismissed social media criticism, calling it “ignorance of the law,” and emphasized that maintaining order was his constitutional duty.

“Anybody who is not pleased can go to court. As CP, I will continue to act within the powers of the law to protect Lagosians. We won’t allow enemies of progress to drag Lagos into chaos,” he declared.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, wanted over an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14,859,257.

According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the funds in question were reportedly part of an investment made by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) into Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited.

“Government has shown us the will and the direction that they love the Ijaw people and Bayelsa State,” Diri declared during a live broadcast on Channels Television.


He highlighted three major developmental milestones achieved through federal partnership as justification for his defection:

1. Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road: A long-awaited project now actively pursued under President Tinubu, described by Diri as “the economic lifeline of the Ijaw people.”


2. Nembe–Brass Road Project: Once stalled, but revived after Tinubu’s swift approval. “When I met the President, he said, ‘Governor, it is done,’ and within days, contractors were on site,” Diri recounted.


3. ₦4 Billion Tax Waiver: Granted for the importation of 60-megawatt gas turbines to provide Bayelsa with 24-hour independent power supply, a breakthrough after years of darkness due to grid sabotage.

Diri concluded that these “acts of grace” proved Tinubu’s genuine commitment to Bayelsa’s progress, calling his move to the APC “a necessary alignment for the future prosperity of our people.”

U.S. Lawmaker Blasts Kwankwaso Over Alleged Role in Christian Killings — “You Made Blasphemy Punishable by Death”

A U.S. Congressman, Rep. Riley M. Moore, representing West Virginia’s Second District, has sharply criticized former Kano State Governor and NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, over his comments denying claims of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.

Kwankwaso had earlier reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and Trump’s threat of possible military action, saying that Nigeria’s insecurity crisis is not based on religion, ethnicity, or politics.

However, in a post shared via his official X handle, Rep. Moore accused Kwankwaso of hypocrisy, alleging that his administration introduced Sharia law in Kano State — a law that makes blasphemy punishable by death.

“Governor — do you care to comment on your own complicity in the death of Christians?” Moore wrote.
“You instituted Sharia law. You signed the law that makes so-called blasphemy punishable by death.”


Kwankwaso, who governed Kano State twice, has yet to respond to the U.S. lawmaker’s allegations.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has revealed that many of her colleagues in the National Assembly refrained from publicly supporting her during her six-month suspension out of fear of political persecution.

Speaking during the commissioning of a new market in Okene, Kogi State, Natasha said that while several senators expressed private solidarity, they avoided public association with her to protect their political standing.

“When a government official faces challenges, isolation comes naturally,” she said.
“Even when people are sympathetic, they are afraid to associate with you openly for fear of being castigated or persecuted. Many senators stood by me quietly — they called, they visited — but in public, they couldn’t show it. I’m not offended by that.”


The lawmaker described her suspension as illegal, arguing that it exposed the fear and intimidation that influence behavior within government institutions.

Recall that Senator Natasha was suspended in March over allegations involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio, but made her return to the Red Chamber in September after serving her six-month suspension.
