  • Wike Reclaims 7,000 Hectares from University of Abuja, Reduces Land Allocation.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reclaimed 7,000 hectares of land from the University of Abuja, reducing the institution’s landholding from 11,000 to 4,000 hectares in the Giri District.

Wike, speaking during the commissioning of newly constructed access roads in the area, accused the university of illegally occupying and fencing off large portions of land without proper documentation.

"The University grabbed 11,000 hectares without any document. That cannot continue," Wike said. "You see them fencing everything, and before long, they start selling off our land."

He directed the FCTA’s Director of Lands and other relevant agencies to formalize a reduced 4,000-hectare allocation to the university, with the remaining land earmarked for planned development projects.

Wike emphasized that the land recovery was part of his broader strategy to accelerate infrastructure and urban development in the district. He also revealed that internal road construction within the area would soon begin, stating:
“Now that we’ve opened access roads, we've instructed the Executive Secretary of the FCDA to begin planning for internal roads. In another year, this district will look completely different.”

The minister also announced plans to collaborate with the National Assembly to establish new institutions in the district, with the FCTA ready to provide land support for their development.

He added that the newly completed access road would enable the EFCC Academy in the district to begin full operations.
“They now have access roads to move in equipment and begin development. This will encourage others to invest and build in the area,” he said.

Highlighting how lack of infrastructure often discourages land development, Wike promised to provide essential amenities such as roads, water, and electricity to attract investment and promote growth.

“When you allocate land without infrastructure, development stalls. We’ll do our part to ensure basic facilities are in place,” he assured.

  • Students Protest Renaming of The Polytechnic Ibadan.

Students of The Polytechnic Ibadan on Tuesday staged a protest at the Oyo State Government Secretariat, opposing the recent decision by Governor Seyi Makinde to rename the institution after former Governor Omololu Olunloyo.

Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the students called on the governor to reverse the name change and preserve the identity and legacy of the institution.

Led by the Students Union Government (SUG) President, Olamide Oladipupo, the protesters emphasized that the original name of the polytechnic holds historical and academic significance globally and should not be altered.

The protest follows Makinde’s announcement on June 26, 2025, during the funeral service of Olunloyo, where he declared the renaming of the institution to Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan. Olunloyo, who died on April 6, 2025, was the institution’s first principal and briefly served as governor of Oyo State in 1983.

Governor Makinde described the move as a tribute to Olunloyo’s contributions as a scholar, technocrat, and cultural figure. However, students believe such a change disregards the identity the institution has built over the years.

Addressing the protesters, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, Sunday Odukoya, urged the students to remain peaceful while their concerns are reviewed.

The renaming of public institutions after political figures has increasingly stirred controversy nationwide. Similar changes—such as attempts to rename the University of Abuja and University of Lagos—have faced public resistance from students and alumni.

  • 10 constructive ways to deal with someone who seems ego-driven, regardless of gender:

    1. Stay Calm and Confident
Maintain your composure. Ego-driven behavior often thrives on emotional reactions—don’t give it power.

    2. Set Boundaries Firmly
Be clear about what behavior is acceptable and what’s not. Assertiveness is not aggression.

    3. Don’t Compete—Lead
Rather than trying to “win,” take the high road. Show leadership through actions, not ego clashes.

    4. Use Active Listening
Sometimes ego is a shield for insecurity. Listening without judgment can diffuse tension.

    5. Speak with Clarity, Not Criticism
Use “I” statements and stick to facts, not attacks. Example: “I feel disrespected when…” instead of “You’re arrogant.”

    6. Don’t Validate Power Games
If someone is seeking control or dominance, disengage from manipulative tactics. Stay grounded.

    7. Lead by Example
Demonstrate humility, collaboration, and respect. It often invites similar behavior in return.

    8. Focus on Values and Common Goals
Shift the conversation toward shared objectives or values instead of individual pride.

    9. Know When to Walk Away
Not every battle is worth fighting. Protect your peace if someone’s ego is consistently toxic.

    10. Build, Don’t Break
Instead of trying to “crush” an ego, aim to inspire growth. Encourage reflection, not resistance.

  • Oshiomhole Blames Buhari-Era Excessive Money Printing for Naira Collapse.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has attributed the sharp decline of the naira to excessive money printing under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Speaking at a Progressives Governors Forum event in Benin City, the Edo North senator criticized the Central Bank’s use of the Ways and Means provision, saying it led to unchecked currency printing and the naira’s subsequent devaluation.

Under the Ways and Means policy, the federal government is allowed to borrow from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to manage fiscal shortfalls. However, Oshiomhole alleged the Buhari government abused this by printing over ₦31 trillion, not backed by revenue or resources.

He likened the practice to the economic mismanagement seen in Zimbabwe and Idi Amin’s Uganda, where excessive currency printing led to hyperinflation and the collapse of national currencies.

“They called it ‘Ways and Means’—but in reality, it was just printing money to meet illusionary needs,” Oshiomhole said. “This reckless policy is why the naira collapsed.”

He added that the root causes of today’s inflation and exchange rate crisis stem from this fiscal mismanagement, a burden now left for President Bola Tinubu to resolve.

Oshiomhole also criticized Nigeria’s unsustainable borrowing habits, saying, “We were borrowing like fish drinks water,” and praised the current administration for halting the practice.

In 2024, the Senate set up an ad-hoc committee to probe the CBN’s use of Ways and Means and its Anchor Borrowers Programme.

Jonathan: Yar’Adua Signed Power Transfer Letter But Aide Blocked It, Triggering 2010 Crisis.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua wrote and signed a letter authorizing him to take over as acting president before leaving Nigeria for medical treatment in 2009, but a top aide deliberately withheld it from the National Assembly, plunging the country into a dangerous constitutional crisis.

In an interview with the Rainbow Book Club, Jonathan explained that during Yar’Adua’s absence, he could run the day-to-day executive functions as Vice President but could not act as Commander-in-Chief, leaving Nigeria without clear leadership for months.

Jonathan said the constitutional vacuum was avoidable, but power dynamics—especially regional and religious sensitivities over succession—complicated the situation. The “Doctrine of Necessity” was later invoked by the National Assembly to allow Jonathan assume the presidency without the formal letter.

He emphasized that in other nations like the U.S., such a power gap is not tolerated, even during brief medical procedures, and stressed the importance of constitutional clarity.

President Yar’Adua died in May 2010, officially making Jonathan President. He later won the 2011 election to begin a full term.
