Peter Obi Questions Govt’s Priorities Amid Remi Tinubu’s Birthday Donation Appeal
In a statement shared on his X handle, Obi congratulated Mrs. Tinubu on her birthday and commended her for urging well-wishers to donate toward the completion of the long-abandoned National Library in Abuja, rather than spend on celebratory cakes or newspaper adverts.
However, the former Anambra State governor noted that the appeal, though well-intentioned, was a stark indictment of the state of governance in Nigeria.
“What kind of country must beg for charity to build the very temple of knowledge?” Obi asked. “What kind of leaders waste trillions on luxury and vanity, while the National Library, our intellectual furnace, remains abandoned in the capital?”Peter Obi Questions Govt’s Priorities Amid Remi Tinubu’s Birthday Donation Appeal In a statement shared on his X handle, Obi congratulated Mrs. Tinubu on her birthday and commended her for urging well-wishers to donate toward the completion of the long-abandoned National Library in Abuja, rather than spend on celebratory cakes or newspaper adverts. US Strike on Venezuela Drug Boat Raises Legal Questions
A US strike in the Caribbean that killed 11 alleged drug traffickers linked to Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua cartel may have breached international law, experts told BBC Verify.
President Donald Trump said the vessel was carrying drugs to the US, sharing drone footage of the attack on Truth Social. However, US officials have not clarified the legal grounds for the strike.
Legal scholars warn the action may have violated maritime law and the UN Charter, which restricts the use of force in international waters. Critics argue the killings could amount to “extrajudicial arbitrary killings,” stressing that branding suspects as “narco-terrorists” does not automatically make them lawful military targets.US Strike on Venezuela Drug Boat Raises Legal Questions A US strike in the Caribbean that killed 11 alleged drug traffickers linked to Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua cartel may have breached international law, experts told BBC Verify. At least 10 people were killed and dozens injured in Kathmandu after police opened fire on protesters opposing Nepal’s social media ban.
The crackdown erupted Monday as tens of thousands of mostly young demonstrators stormed the streets against the policy blocking Facebook, X, and YouTube.
Authorities defended the move, citing tech firms’ refusal to register locally, but protesters dubbed it the “Gen Z protest,” calling it an attack on free speech.

BREAKING: El-Rufai Petitions Police Service Commission, Demands Probe Into Kaduna Police Over Invitation For Questioning
Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC), accusing the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna and some officers of “unprofessional conduct, abuse of office, and serial violations of the Police Act 2020 and regulations.”
In a petition dated September 8, 2025, and addressed to the PSC Chairman, El-Rufai demanded an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into what he described as unlawful and unconstitutional actions by the Kaduna police authorities.
“I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to lodge this complaint and demand an investigation. This will assist the Commission in discharging its constitutional functions under the law,” El-Rufai stated.
He noted that his concerns went beyond personal grievances, stressing that his petition was about protecting the future of policing in Nigeria.
“I submit this petition with a profound sense of responsibility as a citizen who has served at national and subnational levels. My motivation is concern for the Nigerian Police Force, which remains the primary law enforcement institution despite its challenges,” he added.
The former governor urged the PSC to act decisively in enforcing accountability and discipline within the Force, insisting that public trust in the police depends on strict adherence to professionalism and ethics.
The development comes days after the Kaduna State Police Command invited El-Rufai and several members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
A letter dated September 4, 2025, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (CID), Uzainu Abdullahi, had directed the ADC chairman in Kaduna to produce El-Rufai and six others at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8.
Those invited include:
Bashir Sa’idu
Jafaru Sani
Ubaidullah Mohammed (“30”)
Nasiru Maikano
Aminu Abita
Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (“Mikiya”)
Last week, SaharaReporters reported that security operatives sealed off the ADC state office in Kaduna, just hours before a scheduled solidarity visit by the party’s Northwest leadership. The office closure followed an attack on ADC members by suspected political thugs a week earlier.BREAKING: El-Rufai Petitions Police Service Commission, Demands Probe Into Kaduna Police Over Invitation For Questioning Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC), accusing the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna and some officers of “unprofessional conduct, abuse of office, and serial violations of the Police Act 2020 and regulations.” In a petition dated September 8, 2025, and addressed to the PSC Chairman, El-Rufai demanded an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into what he described as unlawful and unconstitutional actions by the Kaduna police authorities. “I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to lodge this complaint and demand an investigation. BREAKING: Nigerian Nursing Council Ends “Three-Attempt” Elimination Policy
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has abolished its long-standing rule that removed students from training after three failed attempts at the Council’s professional examinations.
In a circular issued September 1, 2025 (Ref: N&MCN/SG/RO/CIR/24/VOL.5/118) and signed by Registrar/CEO Ndagi Alhassan, the Council said the new policy takes effect immediately. Henceforth, candidates who fail any part of the exam will be required to retake only that section until a pass is achieved.
The circular — addressed to commissioners of health, universities, hospitals, nursing institutions, and professional associations — explained that the reform is part of ongoing efforts to align nursing education with global best practices.
The Council emphasized that the move shifts nursing education from “mere elimination” to a student-centered model that supports academic success while safeguarding professional standards.
However, it directed that students must remain in school, attend at least 80% of lectures and clinical postings, and that repeated failures will count against training institutions.
