The family of 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbanje — who died in 2018 after prolonged sexual abuse — has again appealed for justice, calling on First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and IGP Kayode Egbetokun to act.

Court Rejects Police’s Bid To Stop ‘Free Nnamdi Kanu Now’ Protest.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled against the Nigeria Police Force’s request to prevent the “Free Nnamdi Kanu Now” protest, allowing the demonstration to go ahead as planned on Monday, October 20, 2025.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, had dispatched lawyers to file an ex parte motion to stop Omoyele Sowore, the protest organiser and activist, from holding the demonstration near Aso Rock Villa, the seat of Nigeria’s government.

However, Justice Umar of the Federal High Court refused to grant the motion, which sought to immediately halt the protest without hearing Sowore’s side of the argument. Instead, the judge directed the police to serve Sowore with formal notice of their application and adjourned the case until Tuesday for a proper hearing.

In response to the court’s decision, Omoyele Sowore called it a victory for civil liberties and reaffirmed his commitment to going ahead with the protest. In a statement posted on his 𝕏 handle (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Sowore said, “IG of PoliceNG Kayode Egbetokun dispatched police lawyers to sue me, in an effort to halt the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest scheduled for Aso Rock Villa on Monday. However, the judge, Justice Umar of Federal High Court in Abuja, refused to grant the ex parte motion, instead instructing him to serve me notice and adjourning the case until Tuesday for a proper hearing.”

The protest, organized under the hashtag #FreeNnamdiKanuNow, is intended to draw attention to the prolonged detention and legal fate of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

National assembly, Clerk Seeks Special Salary Structure, Job Security For Legislative Aides

Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, has called for a distinct salary structure and improved job security for legislative aides working with federal lawmakers.

Speaking in Abuja at a three-day capacity-building workshop organised with Research Enterprise Systems (RES), Ogunlana said legislative aides face peculiar financial and structural challenges that current civil service templates fail to address.

He noted that aides, though political appointees, lack job security, have unclear career progression, and often suffer arbitrary termination. Ogunlana urged the National Assembly Service Commission and the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission to create a special salary structure and clear service guidelines.

NASC chairman, Saviour Enyiekere, also charged aides to be more skilled than their principals to enhance the quality of legislative work.

The training was attended by chiefs of staff, special advisers, and senior legislative aides to lawmakers.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the temporary freezing of four Jaiz Bank accounts linked to former NNPCL GMD, Mele Kyari, over alleged fraud.

The warning was issued in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) via the official handle , on Monday. The mission stressed that consular officers will deny visa applications if they suspect the applicant’s primary purpose of travel is to give birth in the United States.

“Using your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted.

Consular officers will deny your visa application if they have reason to believe this is your intent,” the post stated, tagging it with hashtags and an accompanying image in the post clearly stated that such an act is not permitted, adding that applicants would be denied visas.

“We will deny your visa if we believe your primary purpose of travel is to give birth in the United States to get U.S. citizenship for your child. This is not permitted, ” the picture read.

Ajana Chioma Isabella, a promising law student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), has tragically died after allegedly being denied access to her insulin by the management of Elmada Hostel, where she resided.
