• Muyiwa Adejobi: A Symbol Of Arrogance Of Power! – By Tope Temokun

Former Police PRO Muyiwa Adejobi has been accused of ordering the violent snatching of activist Omoyele Sowore’s Ray-Ban glasses during a protest — an act that critics say goes beyond petty misconduct to highlight the deep culture of impunity in the Nigerian Police Force.

As lawyer and rights activist Tope Temokun argues, Adejobi’s alleged actions reflect a reckless abuse of office, contempt for citizens’ rights, and misuse of state power. The Nigerian Constitution guarantees human dignity and protection of property, yet such violations persist under the cover of uniform and authority.

Temokun stresses that this is not about sunglasses, but about the principle that no officer is above the law. The role of a police spokesperson should build trust, not instill fear. Allowing such abuses to pass without accountability only entrenches tyranny.

He concludes that Adejobi’s record must not be forgotten, and that the wheels of justice must one day hold him to account. For Nigeria to progress, law enforcement must be subject to the very laws it enforces.

  • Police Recruits Accuse Bauchi Training School of Extorting ₦250,000 for Uniforms, Boots

Recruits at the Nigeria Police Force Training School in Yelwa, Bauchi, have alleged that they are being forced to pay up to ₦250,000 for uniforms, boots, and kits meant to be provided free of charge.

Some recruits, speaking anonymously, described the demand as an unbearable burden on their families, with many resorting to financial help from relatives or well-wishers. A lawyer, Barrister Lawal Ishaq, said a woman approached him for assistance after her son requested the payment from the school. He warned that such practices could encourage corruption among new officers.

The recruits also claimed that uniforms provided were substandard, forcing them to spend more on tailoring, while boots were often only issued after graduation.

However, the Commandant of the school, ACP Abdullahi Umar Tambuwal, dismissed the allegations as false, insisting all recruits receive free uniforms, kits, and meals. He assured that the claims would be investigated, warning that any officer found guilty of extortion would be sanctioned.

  • Police Promotions Spark Outrage as Humanitarian Officer Overlooked

The Nigeria Police Force faces criticism after sidelining DSP Faith Okwuego, known for paying exam fees, hospital bills, and supporting schools, while fast-tracking promotions for officers linked to IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

Sources allege Bukola Kuti, the IGP’s close associate, rose to Assistant Commissioner of Police in just 10 years, while Yemisi Ademosu, reportedly his former orderly, was promoted without taking mandatory exams.

Police insiders say a controversial list of 37 handpicked officers has fueled tensions within the Police Service Commission (PSC). Meanwhile, Okwuego’s humanitarian acts remain unrecognized despite public praise, raising questions about favoritism and transparency in police promotions.

  • Exposed: Alleged Embezzlement of Police Funds Under IGP Egbetokun Sparks Outrage

Recent reports have surfaced alleging that the quarterly allocation of ₦4 million (approximately $2,500) designated for state police commands has been misappropriated by the Police Management Team under the leadership of Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun. This revelation has intensified concerns over financial mismanagement within the Nigeria Police Force.

Further compounding these concerns, an investigation highlighted that divisional police offices across the country operate on meager quarterly budgets ranging between ₦15,000 and ₦30,000. This inadequate funding reportedly hampers effective policing and may inadvertently foster environments where corruption can thrive.

Adding to the controversy, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has been embroiled in a financial scandal. Members of the PCRC have called on IGP Egbetokun to investigate the National Chairman, Mogaji Olaniyan, over allegations of misappropriating funds totaling over ₦60 million. Despite petitions submitted, there has been little to no action taken on the matter.

These allegations have led to public outcry, with citizens and civil society organizations demanding transparency and accountability within the police force. The hashtag #EgbetokunMustGo has been trending on social media platforms, reflecting the growing demand for leadership change.
