• JNIM Launches First Attack in Nigeria, Signaling Potential Jihadist Expansion

Al-Qaeda-linked group Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) has claimed its first attack in Nigeria, killing a soldier in Kwara State on October 31, 2025. Analysts warn this may indicate the start of jihadist expansion into Nigeria’s North Central region. The attack appears symbolic, with no permanent bases yet, and may leverage local militant networks like Lakurawa. Security experts caution that such alliances could increase instability, blur lines between crime and insurgency, and create new security challenges for Nigeria.

  • BREAKING: “Enough Is Enough” — Senator Ayodele Arise has urged Nigeria to act swiftly over the continued detention of Nigerian troops in Burkina Faso, warning that what started casually is now beginning to drag into weeks.

Raising the alarm on the Senate floor, Arise called on the Federal Government and military leadership to take firm action against Captain Ibrahim Traoré over the detention of 11 Nigerian military personnel and a Nigerian aircraft. He stressed that Nigeria’s silence is becoming danger0us.

Other lawmakers backed his position, describing the situation as degrading and unacceptable, and warned that prolonged inaction could weaken Nigeria’s sovereignty and send the wrong signal internationally.

“No country will allow its troops to be held without explanation,” lawmakers insisted, emphasizing that the soldiers were on official duty and that nothing justifies their continued detention.

    This is no longer a diplomatic whisper — it’s a national c0ncern.

Should Nigeria take a tougher diplomatic or military stance to secure the release of its detained soldiers?

  • Dalung Lauds Tinubu’s Benin Airstrike but Questions Failure to Tackle Insecurity in Nigeria

Former minister Solomon Dalung has praised President Bola Tinubu for Nigeria’s swift military intervention in Benin Republic, describing the airstrike against coup plotters as decisive and effective. However, he criticised the government for failing to apply the same urgency to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity. Dalung questioned why operations against terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers at home lack the coordination displayed in Benin, citing unanswered attacks such as the killing of Brig. Gen. Musa Uba and mass school kidnappings. He warned that Nigeria’s inability to protect its citizens fuels international calls — including past remarks by Donald Trump — for external intervention. Dalung urged Tinubu to deploy equal military strength to Sambisa, Niger, Zamfara, Plateau, and Kaduna, insisting that national strength must be proven within Nigeria’s borders.

  • Tinubu’s ‘Security Emergency’ Is Not a Constitutional State of Emergency — Odinkalu Warns Against State Police

In a detailed opinion piece, Chidi Anselm Odinkalu critiques President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a “nationwide security emergency,” arguing that it does not meet the constitutional requirements for a state of emergency and bypasses necessary oversight by the National Assembly. Odinkalu warns that the move appears politically calculated and masks the administration’s reluctance to acknowledge Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.
He further cautions against the push for state police, citing historical abuses—from Native Authority Police to Bakassi Boys—and the failure of state-led security initiatives in Zamfara, Benue, and Anambra. Odinkalu warns that creating 37 separate police forces could decentralize despotism, enabling governors to weaponize security agencies against opponents. He argues instead for decentralizing the Nigeria Police Force with stronger oversight, autonomy, and professionalism.

  • BREAKING: Coalition Of Nigerian Leaders Warns Of ‘Wartime Levels’ Of Insecurity, Proposes Presidential Task Force

A coalition of prominent Nigerian leaders across ethnic, religious, and political divides has raised alarm over worsening insecurity under President Bola Tinubu, warning that the nation risks sliding into chaos unless urgent action is taken.

Citing an Amnesty International report, the leaders said at least 10,217 Nigerians have been killed in violent attacks in the past two years, describing it as “wartime levels of slaughter.” Benue alone reportedly recorded nearly 6,900 deaths, Plateau over 2,600, while Zamfara has seen 638 villages razed and residents forced to pay criminal levies.

The coalition condemned what it termed “a dangerous national silence” and the state’s failure to maintain security, stressing that farmer-herder clashes have evolved into sectarian wars fueled by poverty, arms proliferation, and impunity.

They proposed the creation of a Presidential Task Force on National Security with extraordinary powers to coordinate intelligence, disarm armed groups, reintegrate displaced persons, and publish quarterly accountability reports.

“Nigeria stands on a knife-edge,” the leaders warned, urging immediate reforms, reconciliation, and inclusive governance to halt the bloodshed.

  • Nigerian Government Vows Justice For 32 Worshippers Killed In Katsina Mosque Attack

The Federal Government has vowed to bring to justice the gunmen who killed at least 32 worshippers in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The attackers stormed a mosque on Tuesday, opening fire on congregants during prayers. According to state officials, the assault was in retaliation for an earlier ambush by residents that left some members of the armed group dead.

In a statement, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, condemned the killings as “callous and barbaric,” assuring Nigerians that security forces were already on the trail of the perpetrators.

“Security forces are already on the trail of the criminals, and no stone will be left unturned until they are apprehended and held accountable. Justice will be swift and decisive,” the statement read.

President Bola Tinubu extended condolences to the victims’ families, the Malumfashi community, and the Katsina State government, saying: “Their grief is our grief, and the Government stands with them at this dark hour.”

The minister stressed that the assault was not just an attack on Malumfashi but “an affront to our collective humanity and national values,” reaffirming government’s resolve to intensify the fight against terrorism.

The development comes weeks after the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) announced the arrest of key terrorist leaders, including Mahmud al-Nigeri of the Mahmuda faction, his deputy Abu Abba, and Mahmud Muhammad Usman (Abu Baraa) of the Ansaru group — all previously on the international wanted list.
