Senator Adams Oshiomhole has revealed how hackers breached his OPay and Moniepoint accounts, siphoning funds and exposing major gaps in Nigeria’s fintech security. Speaking during a Senate debate, he urged stronger regulations for digital financial platforms that operate outside traditional banking structures. Oshiomhole warned that many fintechs lack transparency and could expose Nigerians to financial risks.
In response, OPay dismissed viral claims that it had shut down or lost users’ funds, insisting its systems remain secure and customer deposits protected. The company added that a brief downtime earlier in the week had been resolved and reassured users of its financial stability.

Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has urged politicians and lawmakers to stop recruiting unemployed youths to disrupt elections, warning that such practices fuel post-election insecurity.

Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary, the former Edo State governor said violence has no place in democracy and blamed political actors for empowering thugs during elections.

“After every election, violent crimes rise because politicians who armed hungry youths can’t retrieve the weapons. Those arms are then used for robbery and other crimes,” he said.

Oshiomhole recalled warning fellow governors years ago that AK-47 rifles were not items just anyone could afford, implying that only influential figures could sponsor electoral violence.

He emphasized the need for sincerity among politicians, urging them to allow Nigerians to “hire and fire without fear” through credible elections. “If we truly commit to eliminating violence, we will have free, fair, and transparent elections,” he said.

The senator added that the true beauty of democracy lies not in holding office but in earning the people’s trust. “If you rig or manipulate elections, deep in your heart, you know you’re not a happy person,” he noted.

Oshiomhole also cautioned against conducting presidential, governorship, and National Assembly elections on the same day and called for vigilance against hackers as Nigeria deepens its use of election technology.

He concluded, “We, as senators and elected officials, must resolve never to arm or use unemployed youths to disrupt elections. Once we stop that, 90 percent of our electoral problems will be solved.”

Edo: Health workers call off 7-day warning strike as Gov Okpebholo succumbs to demands.

The Edo State Government has succumbed to the demands of the State Council of the Medical and Health Workers Union, MHWUN, for improved conditions of service and enhanced welfare packages for its members.

The union had on Friday, 17 October 2025, commenced a seven-day warning strike to press home its demands for improved working conditions and welfare packages for members.

A statement signed by Comrade Ogbeide Omon Osagie, State Chairman and Comrade Barivure Kpakol, Secretary, respectively, dated October 16, 2025, stated that the warning strike follows the expiration of the 14-day notice earlier issued to the state government.

The succumbed to the demands of the health workers, following an intense meeting between the state government representatives, the State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the leadership of MHWUN on October 19, 2025.

At the meeting, the state government agreed to fulfil all the demands of the union, just as the union had also agreed to call off the warning strike.

The State Government representatives at the meeting are Anthony Okungbowa, Head of Service, Edo State, Godwin Esheishi, Commissioner for Labour and Productivity and Dr Cyril Oshiomhole, Commissioner for Health.

Drama in Senate as Natasha Confronts Akpabio Over Abortion Debate, Oshiomhole Cites Rule to Stop Her.

There was mild drama during Tuesday’s plenary session in the Nigerian Senate as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan confronted Senate President Godswill Akpabio after being denied the chance to speak on the issue of abortion.

Senator Natasha, visibly displeased, pleaded to be heard, saying, “Mr. Senate President, please may I speak. I’m a woman, and abortion has to do with women it’s very important, sir.”

The Senate President responded that the matter had already been stepped down, but he briefly allowed her to add a comment if necessary.
“This has been stepped down in totality, distinguished senator, but if you have anything to add, you can say,” Akpabio stated.

However, former Edo State governor and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, immediately objected, insisting that parliamentary rules must be respected.

“Mr. President, we’ve been tutored over and over that when a matter has been concluded and you’ve dropped the gavel, if you grant an exception to distinguished Senator Natasha, then you must extend the same extension to us which makes our rule meaningless. The rule should be obeyed. We have said no discussion, and she should obey the rule,” Oshiomhole maintained.

In his final ruling, Akpabio clarified that he did not initially know the nature of Natasha’s intended comment, saying,
“I am not a spirit to know what the senator wants to say. If I knew, I would have referred her to Rule 52, Subsection 6. Since the Senate has come to a conclusion, it shall be out of order.”

He then ruled Senator Natasha out of order, ending the exchange.

Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has fired back at Senator Adams Oshiomhole over his recent comments describing Atiku as being “consumed by politics.”

Oshiomhole made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television over the weekend while reacting to Atiku’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s trip to Plateau State for the burial of the mother of APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

Atiku had slammed Tinubu for showing “a lack of empathy” toward Nigerians facing killings across the country while attending a social event.

Reacting to the remark, Yusuf, in an interview with Punch, opined that the former Governor of Edo State was part of the problem in Nigeria.

Taking a swipe at the 10th National Assembly, Yusuf said the lawmakers have failed to checkmate President Bola Tinubu, despite the violation of the constitution.

According to Yusuf, the 10th National Assembly is the most docile National Assembly since the beginning of democratic rule, adding that they never stopped anything, but were only interested in earning salaries without doing anything.

He said, “Adams Oshiomhole doesn’t know anything about the level of insecurity in the North, and he is part of the problem in Nigeria. The 10th National Assembly is a do-nothing National Assembly. They have allowed the President free rein without checking him.

“He gets loans from all over the place, and this is going to cripple the lives of our grandchildren. They never checkmated him. If Senator Adams Oshiomhole wants to grandstand and be in the newspapers, he is welcome. But he is as much a problem for this country as the President is.

“The 10th National Assembly is the most docile National Assembly we’ve had since the beginning of democratic rule. They never stopped anything, and all they are interested in is seeing an alert and doing nothing. They don’t ask the questions on behalf of the constituents who elected them. The whole 10th National Assembly is a failure.

“They have failed Nigerians because they are not checkmating this President. He is doing whatever he likes, violating the constitution in his appointments. Section 14(3) and 14(4) of the Constitution call for the President to ensure that whatever he does reflects the federal character. This is not what the President is doing, and nobody is asking him.

“He is getting loans all over the world, approved by them (the National Assembly), with nothing to show for it. People are suffering every day; people are hungry all across the land. You don’t hear any senator, including Senator Adams, telling the President that his government is cruel. He is not running this nation with the milk of human kindness.”

Police Seal Off Edo NLC Secretariat, Block Inauguration.

Heavily armed police operatives on Wednesday sealed off the Edo State secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), popularly known as the Adams Oshiomhole Labour House, to stop the inauguration of the union’s Caretaker Committee.

Main gate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) was also manned by security personnel, while an armoured personnel carrier was stationed at the Labour House. Witnesses said suspected thugs were seen loitering around the secretariat.

Despite the security blockade, the inauguration eventually took place at another venue in Benin City, where Prof. Monday Igbafen was sworn in as the Caretaker Chairman.

It was learnt that NLC leaders had initially gathered at the UNIBEN ASUU Secretariat for the inauguration, but called it off at the location after receiving security reports.

Some labour leaders from neighbouring states, who had planned to attend the inauguration at the Labour House, lamented being denied access to the venue.

According to The Nation, Comrade Augustine Igben of the Maritime Workers Union expressed dismay at the police action, describing it as unnecessary.

He said, “I felt embarrassed about the whole thing. How can the police barricade the Labour House when there is no war? It is a Labour issue. They should allow Labour settle the issues themselves.

“I was not allowed entry. Where am I going to pass through? There were lots of security men, and I also saw some civilians mixed up with them.”

Tension In Edo As Youths Protest Killings, Kidnappings Under Okpebholo’s.

Residents of Agenebode, the headquarters of Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, trooped out on Monday to protest against what they described as daily killings and kidnappings allegedly carried out by armed herdsmen in their communities.

Naija News understands that the protest grounded commercial activities in the communities as the youths asked Governor Monday Okpebholo to act swiftly.

on the state leader and federal lawmakers to urgently intervene to halt what they termed an “ongoing ethnic cleansing.”

Shops, stalls, and businesses were shut down as residents joined the youth in a show of solidarity.

“We can no longer go to work with peace of mind. The fear of being kidnapped is real,” one council staff member told reporters.

Oshiomhole Blames Buhari-Era Excessive Money Printing for Naira Collapse.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has attributed the sharp decline of the naira to excessive money printing under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Speaking at a Progressives Governors Forum event in Benin City, the Edo North senator criticized the Central Bank’s use of the Ways and Means provision, saying it led to unchecked currency printing and the naira’s subsequent devaluation.

Under the Ways and Means policy, the federal government is allowed to borrow from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to manage fiscal shortfalls. However, Oshiomhole alleged the Buhari government abused this by printing over ₦31 trillion, not backed by revenue or resources.

He likened the practice to the economic mismanagement seen in Zimbabwe and Idi Amin’s Uganda, where excessive currency printing led to hyperinflation and the collapse of national currencies.

“They called it ‘Ways and Means’—but in reality, it was just printing money to meet illusionary needs,” Oshiomhole said. “This reckless policy is why the naira collapsed.”

He added that the root causes of today’s inflation and exchange rate crisis stem from this fiscal mismanagement, a burden now left for President Bola Tinubu to resolve.

Oshiomhole also criticized Nigeria’s unsustainable borrowing habits, saying, “We were borrowing like fish drinks water,” and praised the current administration for halting the practice.

In 2024, the Senate set up an ad-hoc committee to probe the CBN’s use of Ways and Means and its Anchor Borrowers Programme.
