• Here we go: Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah, Dumps PDP for APC, cites need to connect state with central government.

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the announcement during a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, saying the decision followed deep reflection and the need to connect Enugu to the central government.
“Today, after a long reflection, we have made a decision to join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah said.

He expressed appreciation to the PDP for providing him with a platform that brought him to power but explained that his defection was driven by the desire to better serve the people of the state and align with the APC’s development vision.
“To the Peoples Democratic Party, which supported us through a demanding campaign and celebrated our victory, I express my heartfelt gratitude,” he stated.

“Leadership often requires taking tough, even painful decisions in pursuit of greater goals. This is one of those moments.”

Governor Mbah commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as “massive support” for Enugu under his administration and expressed confidence that joining the APC would bring more collaboration and growth opportunities for the state.

He confirmed that his move to the ruling party was in partnership with members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and other political appointees who have also switched allegiance to the APC.

Mbah’s exit from the PDP reportedly comes ahead of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri’s planned defection, which sources say has already been finalised. Earlier this year, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno had also joined the APC with their cabinet members and aides.

  • Osun Govt, APC Clash Over Alleged ₦300 Million Scandal Involving Female Permanent Secretary

The political atmosphere in Osun State has once again heated up as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Osun State Government trade accusations over an alleged ₦300 million corruption scandal said to involve a senior female civil servant.

In a statement released by Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, the party accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of shielding a female Permanent Secretary allegedly caught embezzling state funds.

According to the opposition, the current administration’s “administrative hollowness” has allowed some political appointees to loot public resources unchecked.

“Why is the Adeleke government, which preaches accountability and rule of law, protecting a Permanent Secretary who allegedly embezzled over ₦300 million?” the APC queried.

The APC also claimed the state government was secretly managing the issue, arranging for the accused to repay the funds instead of facing prosecution. The party urged the EFCC and Nigeria Police to intervene, alleging that the implicated civil servant is the wife of a serving commissioner in the Adeleke cabinet.

However, in a swift response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the allegations as “beer parlour gossip elevated to party propaganda,” insisting that no such scandal exists.

“There is no ₦300 million scam in any Osun government ministry or agency. Governor Adeleke runs a transparent and accountable administration,” Rasheed stated.

He accused the APC of spreading lies to distract the public, emphasizing that the state’s procurement law and due process system make such corruption “impossible.”

Rasheed further warned that the government might take legal action against those behind the “libellous” claims, reaffirming Adeleke’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

“Governor Adeleke has never and will never shield any corrupt official. Transparency remains the hallmark of his government,” he concluded.

  • Any of My Personal Assistants claiming to earn less than N1 Million is lying — Gov Eno.

Governor Umo Eno has faulted political aides who downplay their earnings, insisting that his Personal Assistants (PAs), who occupy the lowest rung among his appointees, receive a minimum of ₦1 million monthly.

Speaking at a Town Square Meeting with residents of Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency in Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, the governor elevated his PA on Protocol, Blessed Essien, to Special Assistant (SA) on Public Works after he donated a borehole project to his community.

“As I arrived here, they gave me a brochure about a PA who, from his pay, built and reticulated a borehole for his village. That is impact. Yet some appointees still mislead their people, claiming the government has done nothing.

Some even dismiss the position of PA as ‘ordinary,’ but a PA to the governor of a state cannot be ordinary,” Eno said. He added, “Hear me well, no PA earns less than ₦1 million. Yet when they talk, they call it a stipend.

₦1 million is not a stipend; it is serious money. I have directed the Secretary to the State Government to compile the names of all political appointees by local government area, and we will publish them in the newspaper.”

Governor Eno also challenged constituents to demand accountability from their representatives, urging them to “call your PAs, SAs, SSAs, Commissioners and ask, what have you done?”

  • National assembly, Clerk Seeks Special Salary Structure, Job Security For Legislative Aides

Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, has called for a distinct salary structure and improved job security for legislative aides working with federal lawmakers.

Speaking in Abuja at a three-day capacity-building workshop organised with Research Enterprise Systems (RES), Ogunlana said legislative aides face peculiar financial and structural challenges that current civil service templates fail to address.

He noted that aides, though political appointees, lack job security, have unclear career progression, and often suffer arbitrary termination. Ogunlana urged the National Assembly Service Commission and the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission to create a special salary structure and clear service guidelines.

NASC chairman, Saviour Enyiekere, also charged aides to be more skilled than their principals to enhance the quality of legislative work.

The training was attended by chiefs of staff, special advisers, and senior legislative aides to lawmakers.

  • BREAKING: Kano Commissioner Resigns After Alleged Involvement in Drug Baron Bail.

Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, has resigned his position following allegations of involvement in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Danwawu.

His resignation came just hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the report of a fact-finding committee set up to investigate the incident.

Namadi’s decision was conveyed in a statement issued Wednesday by the Director-General, Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

In the statement, Namadi described his resignation as a painful but necessary step taken in the public interest and in light of the sensitive nature of the matter.

“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sale and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step painful as it may be,” he stated.

“While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built.”

The outgoing commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve, reaffirming his loyalty to the administration and its vision.

“I must, as a good citizen, strive to protect, preserve, and uphold the trust and vision we have worked so hard to instil in our dear state,” he added.

The statement confirmed that Governor Yusuf had accepted the resignation and wished Namadi success in his future endeavours. The governor, according to the release, reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to justice, discipline, and the fight against drug-related crimes and social vices.

Governor Yusuf also cautioned political appointees to exercise restraint and seek appropriate clearance when handling sensitive matters of public interest.

The resignation follows the submission of the investigative committee’s report on Monday. The committee, chaired by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Justice and Constitutional Matters, Aminu Hussain, found that Namadi had acted negligently by standing as surety for Danwawu without conducting proper background checks.

Hussain noted that the inquiry was impartial, thorough, and based on verifiable evidence. The findings concluded that the commissioner’s actions compromised the government’s stance on illicit drug control and public accountability.
