U.S. Bill Seeks Visa Bans, Asset Freezes for Miyetti Allah Over Religious Freedom Violations.

A new bill before the United States Congress has proposed targeted sanctions on Nigerian individuals and groups accused of severe violations of religious freedom, naming the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore among entities of concern.

The legislation, introduced on Tuesday by House Representative Smith Christopher, recommends visa restrictions and asset freezes for members of the listed groups. Christopher also praised President Donald Trump for re-designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) under US law.

In the bill, “Fulani-Ethnic Militias” operating in Benue and Plateau states were also placed on the Entities of Particular Concern (EPC) list reserved for non-state actors implicated in serious religious freedom abuses. Previously designated EPCs include Boko Haram, ISIS-West Africa, ISIS-Sahel, the Taliban, and the Houthis.

The development came the same day US Senator Ted Cruz renewed pressure on Abuja, vowing to hold Nigerian officials accountable over what he described as evidence of a Christian gen+cide. Cruz, who in October proposed the Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025, said he would soon name officials he believes enabled religious persecution.

His earlier bill sought sanctions against federal or state officials accused of promoting or enforcing blasphemy laws.

The Nigerian government has consistently rejected such allegations, insisting that insecurity across the country is driven by criminal activity rather than religious motivations.

“It’s nothing new. It doesn’t amount to genocide,” he said, noting that Western narratives often portray Nigerian Christians as being in constant mortal danger.”

PastorWale questioned the motivations behind global attention, suggesting that Nigeria’s growing economic and strategic significance could play a role.

“Is it because we now have one of the largest refineries in the world, or because of the 21st-century minerals in our land used for nuclear power and electric vehicles? Are these the reasons our friends are threatening to invade our country to defend Nigerian Christians?” he asked.

He concluded by urging caution and careful analysis of international interventions, stressing that insecurity affects all Nigerians regardless of faith. “Selam,” he added.

Sharia Council Reacts to Trump’s CPC Designation on Nigeria, Reveals Next Move.

The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN), Kaduna State Chapter, has condemned the recent move by the United States government under President Donald J. Trump to classify Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.

In a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, the Secretary of the Council, Engineer Hassan Abdul Rahman, described the decision as “unjust, biased, and reflective of a one-sided narrative.”

According to him, the U.S. designation ignored the complex realities driving insecurity in Nigeria, which, he said, stem from a mix of ethnic, political, and economic factors, not religion.

“The Council is not happy with this development on allegations regarding Christian genocide in Nigeria,” Abdul Rahman said.

“The Trump administration should have sought a balanced perspective on the situation before jumping to conclusions.”

He argued that while the U.S. claims to be defending persecuted Christians, available statistics show that Muslims have also suffered heavily from terrorist attacks and communal conflicts across the country.

“By statistics, it’s clear that Muslims are mostly the victims in various instances,” he added.

“Attributing these tensions solely to religious motivations oversimplifies the realities on the ground and undermines efforts toward national unity and peace.

FG begins payment of arrears to health workers as resident doctors begin strike.

The federal government says it has approved and commenced the payment of over ₦33.3billion in arrears owed health workers across the country, in a bid to address the ongoing strike declared by resident doctors who constitute the bulk of the country’s health workforce.

The Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Saturday morning commenced a total and indefinite strike action, citing the “repeated failure” of the federal government to honor its promises and implement the agreements reached with members after several rounds of dialogue and appeals.

Responding, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in a statement on Saturday said payments had commenced as part of wider efforts to restore stability and industrial peace in the sector especially with regards to the welfare, motivation, and stability of the nation’s health workforce.

The ministry confirmed that the payment process began following a high-level meeting with NARD leadership, led by Iziaq Salako, minister of State for Health which aimed to address the pressing issues raised by health workers, including resident doctors, and to explore solutions to the ongoing industrial dispute.

According to Alaba Balogun, the deputy director /head of information & public relations, who signed the ministry’s statement, ₦21.3 billion have been approved by President Bola Tinubu and moved into the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) account as of October 30, 2025, with payments already underway.

The government said it is in the final stages of processing an additional ₦11.995 billion within the next 72 hours which will cover outstanding allowances such as accoutrement payments.

The ministry also noted a ₦10 billion paid in August 2025 to cover seven months of arrears related to the 25% and 35% upward revision of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

“All these payments are being enjoyed by members of NARD in accordance with the salary structure in the health sector”, the statement read.

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC), accusing the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna and some officers of “unprofessional conduct, abuse of office, and serial violations of the Police Act 2020 and regulations.”

In a petition dated September 8, 2025, and addressed to the PSC Chairman, El-Rufai demanded an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into what he described as unlawful and unconstitutional actions by the Kaduna police authorities.

“I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to lodge this complaint and demand an investigation. This will assist the Commission in discharging its constitutional functions under the law,” El-Rufai stated.

He noted that his concerns went beyond personal grievances, stressing that his petition was about protecting the future of policing in Nigeria.

“I submit this petition with a profound sense of responsibility as a citizen who has served at national and subnational levels. My motivation is concern for the Nigerian Police Force, which remains the primary law enforcement institution despite its challenges,” he added.
