• Why Is Tinubu Budgeting Another ₦7bn for Aso Rock Solar While Nigerians Face Blackouts? After ₦10bn in 2025, Is the Presidency Prioritising Itself Over the National Power Crisis?

Amid worsening electricity shortages across Nigeria, the Bola Tinubu-led federal government has allocated another ₦7 billion in the 2026 budget for the solarisation of the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, raising fresh questions about priorities, equity, and governance. The new allocation—listed by the Budget Office of the Federation under State House expenditures as “provision of solarisation of Villa with solar mini grid”—comes just a year after ₦10 billion was set aside for the same project in 2025.

The decision has reignited public debate because it contrasts sharply with the everyday reality of millions of Nigerians who continue to endure persistent blackouts, business disruptions, and rising energy costs. Critics argue that while the Presidency secures reliable power through a premium solar project, households and small enterprises remain at the mercy of an unstable national grid.

In April 2025, when the initial ₦10 billion allocation triggered public outrage, the Presidency defended the project as a long-term investment in sustainability and energy efficiency. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the move follows “global standards,” citing the White House’s use of solar power and insisting the administration was not “reinventing the wheel” but adopting a tested model for powering critical institutions. Supporters of the project also frame it as a smart hedge against grid failures and a step toward cleaner energy.

Yet the timing has kept the controversy alive. The latest budget increase coincides with a series of national grid collapses that have plunged much of the country into darkness. According to data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), one major disturbance saw total power generation crash from 2,052.37MW to just 139.92MW within one hour, leaving only three of the country’s 11 distribution companies able to take any load. At different points, major DisCos—including Eko, Ikeja, Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt and Yola—recorded zero allocation, underscoring the fragility of the system.

Independent monitoring confirmed that even hours after such collapses, national supply remained severely constrained, with total available power far below what is needed to sustain homes, hospitals, businesses, and critical services. Similar incidents in March and September 2025 followed earlier government celebrations of rising generation, only for output to plunge again below sustainable levels.

Against this backdrop, many Nigerians question whether investing billions to guarantee uninterrupted electricity for the seat of power—while the wider grid remains unreliable—signals a two-tier energy policy. Some see the solar project as an admission that government itself no longer trusts the national power system it oversees. Others argue that the Presidency’s energy security should not come at a time when ordinary citizens face daily outages, rising fuel costs for generators, and an economy already under strain.

The debate now centres on urgent questions: Is the Tinubu administration protecting Aso Rock while the country stays in the dark? Should scarce public funds be channelled first into stabilising the national grid rather than insulating the Presidency? And does repeated spending—₦17 billion across two years—reflect forward-looking sustainability or misplaced priorities in the middle of a power crisis? As Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure continues to falter, the Aso Rock solar budget has become a powerful symbol in a wider argument about leadership, accountability, and who truly benefits from government policy.

  • China Condemns U.S. Detention of Venezuela’s President Maduro, Says No Country Has the Right to Act as the ‘World’s Judge’ or Global Police

China has strongly criticised the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the United States, declaring that it will never accept any country positioning itself as the “world’s judge” or acting as a global police force. The position was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during talks with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, in Beijing, following what he described as sudden and serious developments in Venezuela.

Without naming the United States directly, Wang Yi stressed that international law does not permit any nation to unilaterally police or judge others, insisting that the sovereignty and security of all countries must be respected. His remarks marked China’s first public response since images of Maduro blindfolded and handcuffed surfaced, sparking global controversy. Maduro is currently detained in New York and awaiting a court appearance on drug-related charges.

The development poses a diplomatic test for China, which has cultivated close ties with Venezuela and considers itself a dependable partner to Caracas. Beijing has played a significant economic and political role in supporting Venezuela, particularly since Western sanctions intensified in 2017, investing billions of dollars and purchasing large volumes of Venezuelan crude oil. Analysts say China’s growing confidence on the global stage, reinforced by its past confrontations with Washington and recent diplomatic initiatives, is shaping its firm stance.

However, U.S. President Donald Trump’s assertion that Washington will temporarily oversee Venezuela’s government has raised concerns about the future of China–Venezuela relations and Beijing’s ambition to act as a major diplomatic power. Chinese officials privately described Maduro’s detention as a major setback, highlighting years of diplomatic engagement and economic cooperation now overshadowed by escalating geopolitical tensions.

  • Revolutionary Socialist Movement Urges Nigerians to Resist Tinubu’s ‘Anti-Poor’ Tax Policies, Warns of Rising Hardship, Inflation, Fuel Hikes, and Growing Economic Inequality in 2026

The Revolutionary Socialist Movement (RSM) has called on Nigerians to actively resist what it describes as “anti-poor tax policies” introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, warning that the measures will deepen economic hardship for workers and low-income earners. In a New Year message issued by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Salako Kayode, the group said Nigerians are entering 2026 under intense economic pressure driven by high inflation, soaring food prices, unemployment, repeated fuel price increases, and declining public services.

RSM accused the federal government of responding to the economic crisis by shifting the burden onto ordinary citizens through new and increased taxes, while protecting wealthy individuals, big corporations, and political elites. According to the group, the current tax system has failed to improve essential services such as healthcare, education, housing, and employment, instead sustaining corruption, heavy debt servicing, and what it termed extravagant lifestyles among those in power.

The movement argued that Nigerians should not be forced to pay for an economic crisis they did not create and proposed alternatives including recovering stolen public funds, ending wasteful governance and jumbo salaries, taxing big businesses and the super-rich, and investing more in public services and decent jobs. RSM also called on trade unions, civil society groups, students, and communities to form a united front and engage in peaceful mass resistance to defend living standards and democratic rights, expressing optimism that a more equitable Nigeria is achievable.

  • 2026 Begins New Era of Economic Growth, Stability and Reform as President Tinubu Projects Lower Inflation, Strong GDP Growth and Improved Security in New Year Address

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that 2026 marks the beginning of a more robust phase of economic growth for Nigeria, citing steady gains recorded in 2025 despite global economic challenges. In his New Year address, the President said the government sustained major reforms, achieved a fiscal reset and recorded measurable progress in GDP growth, trade surpluses, exchange rate stability and declining inflation.

According to Tinubu, Nigeria closed 2025 with quarterly GDP growth projected to exceed 4 percent annually, while inflation dropped below 15 percent in line with government targets. He noted that the Nigerian Stock Exchange recorded a strong 48.12 percent gain, foreign reserves rose to $45.4 billion, and foreign direct investment surged to $720 million in the third quarter of 2025, reflecting renewed investor confidence backed by positive assessments from global rating agencies.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline and tax reform, stressing that harmonising taxes across all levels of government will reduce the burden on citizens, boost revenue sustainably and expand fiscal space for infrastructure and human capital development. He added that the 2026 budget is designed to consolidate reforms and position Nigeria for long-term stability and prosperity.

On security, Tinubu acknowledged ongoing threats from terrorism and criminal networks but said decisive actions, including coordinated operations with international partners, have weakened terror groups in the Northwest and Northeast. He pledged deeper cooperation with global and regional partners in 2026, while reiterating support for decentralised policing and regulated forest guards to tackle insecurity.

President Tinubu also outlined plans to accelerate inclusive growth through the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, targeting the empowerment of at least 10 million Nigerians across the country’s 8,809 wards. He said the government will continue investing in infrastructure, agriculture, mining, healthcare, education and food security to improve living standards nationwide.

Calling for unity, patriotism and shared responsibility, the President urged Nigerians to support ongoing reforms, expressing confidence that 2026 will deliver tangible improvements in the lives of citizens and strengthen national stability.

  • The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has denied claims by the Imo State Government that it is planning widespread power outages to sabotage the state’s Light Up Imo electricity project and the new Orashi Electricity Company.

Imo’s Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, alleged that the government received intelligence that EEDC was preparing to disrupt electricity across the state.

In response, EEDC described the allegations as false, baseless, and misleading, accusing the Imo government of spreading propaganda and showing long-standing hostility toward the company.

EEDC said the real sabotage came from the state government, citing an incident on November 15, 2025, when armed policemen allegedly forced the shutdown of all feeders at TCN’s Egbu Station, leaving customers in darkness.

    The company stressed:

It has no plan to carry out any major outage in the state.

Any future disruption should be blamed on the state’s actions.

It remains committed to improving power supply and investing in service delivery.

EEDC reaffirmed its mandate to ensure reliable electricity distribution in Imo State.

Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, says he can afford luxury cars and private jets but chooses not to buy them. Instead, he focuses on investments, personal development, and helping others. He explained in an interview that material possessions are less important than building long-term value.

Don Jazzy emphasized that investing in oneself is crucial and encouraged young people to gain practical skills. He noted that with the rise of the internet and AI, many traditional jobs like medicine, law, and engineering may no longer be the only paths to success. Learning useful skills, he said, is more important in today’s world.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo leapfrogs Boniface, Osimhen, Messi, and others to become football’s first billionaire after mega Al-Nassr deal

Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become football’s first-ever billionaire, with his net worth now estimated at a staggering £1.04 billion, according to financial analysts at Bloomberg.

The 40-year-old Al-Nassr forward reached the milestone after his career earnings, endorsement deals, and investments were evaluated and adjusted for tax rates and market performance. Bloomberg reported that Ronaldo’s lucrative stint in Saudi Arabia has “catapulted him to the top of the global sports rich list,” making him the first footballer to appear on their Billionaires Index.

Ronaldo’s wealth now far surpasses that of his long-time rival Lionel Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami in the United States.

A major contributor to Ronaldo’s fortune is his lifetime partnership with Nike, valued at around £745 million, alongside other endorsements with global brands like Tag Heuer, Armani, PokerStars, Samsung, Unilever, and Louis Vuitton.

The Portuguese superstar is also investing heavily in luxury real estate, including a £28 million mansion complex in his home country. He is often seen flaunting high-end jewellery and watches, among them a Franck Muller Invisible Baguette Diamonds Imperial Tourbillon worth £1.13 million.

At Al-Nassr, Ronaldo earns a jaw-dropping £167.9 million per year — roughly £300 per minute, though he recently confessed he’d prefer to play solely for Portugal. In addition to his record-breaking contract, Ronaldo reportedly holds a stake in Al-Nassr, further boosting his immense fortune.

Hidden quests are one of the most exciting aspects of Steal A Brainrot. They often reward players with unique items, rare currency boosts, or exclusive cosmetics that you won’t find through normal progression. Unlike standard missions, these quests don’t appear in your main objectives list until you’ve triggered very specific conditions. If you’ve been wondering how to uncover these elusive storylines, this guide breaks down the essentials for unlocking hidden quests in the game.

    Understanding Hidden Quest Triggers

Hidden quests in Steal A Brainrot typically require you to perform subtle actions, such as interacting with unusual NPCs, visiting obscure map locations, or completing missions in an unconventional way. • Dangote Refinery Cuts Petrol Price, To Begin Direct Supply Nationwide

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and will begin direct distribution of the product to filling stations across Nigeria starting Monday, September 15, 2025.

In a statement on Thursday, the refinery said the gantry price has been reduced to N820 per litre, with pump prices varying across key states. Lagos and other South-West states will retail at N841 per litre, while Abuja, Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Kwara will sell at N851 per litre.

“The first phase of the deployment will cover the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Kwara, Delta, Edo, Rivers, and South-West states, with nationwide expansion planned as more trucks are delivered,” the company stated.

The refinery noted that the use of CNG-powered transportation in the supply chain will save Nigeria over N1.8 trillion annually, cut distribution costs, and help ease inflationary pressures. It added that the initiative will directly benefit more than 42 million MSMEs by lowering energy costs.

The company also disclosed that it is investing over N720 billion in the programme, which is expected to create thousands of jobs and revive dormant filling stations nationwide.

Stakeholders such as fuel station operators, telecom companies, and large-scale fuel consumers have been urged to partner with the initiative. Petrol station owners were also encouraged to register for free delivery and other benefits tied to the scheme.

  • Soludo’s Wife Replies Ekwunife After She Claimed The Governor Has Mouth And Body Odour.

Mrs Soludo was reacting to a video where the senator attacked the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

Mrs Nonye Soludo, wife of the Governor of Anambra State has replied the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming governorship election, Senator Uche Ekwunife.

Recall that Ekwunife had in a recent video mocked Soludu, claiming that he has both mouth and body odour.

Mrs Soludo in her reply urged Ekwunife to focus on how to defend her PhD degree, which have been allegedly found out to be fake and issued by an unaccredited institution.

The wife of the governor in a statement signed by her media Adviser, Mr Daniel Ezeigwe said: “At no time was Soludo nor his wife involved in the government of the time (Mbadinuju). Though it is sad that Senator Ekwunife would rather resort to inciting hate and name-calling against a woman who is widely loved by the people, the truth is that, unlike Ekwunife herself, the governor’s wife can never be drawn to political or personal debasement.

“To bring clarity to light and to ensure that unsuspecting members of the public — especially Ndi Anambra who hold the Soludos in the highest esteem — do not get misled by false information, we wish to establish that at no point did the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. (Mrs) Frances Nonye Soludo work or was involved in any role in the administration of Ex-Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju.

“The viral recorded clip, where Senator Uche Ekwunife falsely stated that the governor’s wife was part of late Dr. Mbadinuju’s administration, should be totally disregarded as a statement of mischief and pure deceit.”

Mrs Soludo urged Ekwunife to concentrate on her political journey and leave her out in her attempt to derail the argument about the authenticity or otherwise of her PhD degree.

The statement added, “While we understand Senator Ekwunife’s natural disposition to petty contrivance, including investing in lies and fallacious claims, it is important to state that at the time of Governor Mbadinuju’s tenure, Dr. Nonye was already doing well as an established entrepreneur in agriculture and real estate.

  • Don’t Date Just One Man — BBN’s Tacha Counsels Women.

Former Big Brother Naija housemate and media personality, Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has sparked conversations online following her remarks on the Outside the Box podcast.

Speaking on the show, Tacha urged young women not to commit to only one man while dating. According to her, it is safer to keep options open rather than investing everything in a single relationship. “I tell girls, don’t be out there dating just one man. And I’m still saying it outrightly, you need three other boyfriends in your life,” she said.

Clarifying her statement, Tacha noted that she was not encouraging promiscuity but rather advising women to maintain multiple talking stages to avoid disappointment.

“I am not saying sleep with all the boyfriends but at least let it be that there are other people you are talking to, because even that person you’re talking to — they say the heart of man is wicked — so you never really know,” she added.

Her comments have since stirred mixed reactions on social media, with some fans agreeing that it is a protective strategy in modern dating, while others criticized the advice as promoting distrust in relationships.

  • Noble profession, harsh beginnings: The plight of Nigeria’s young legal professionals.

In this report, DEBORAH MUSA delves into the experiences of junior lawyers navigating the early years of practice years often characterised by long hours, minimal pay, and a workplace culture shaped by hierarchy, exploitation, and disillusionment

Law has long been regarded as one of the most esteemed professions one that parents not only admire but often encourage their children to pursue. In Nigeria, it remains among the most competitive courses in higher education, with exceptionally high cut-off marks and thousands of applicants each year. Despite this fierce demand, and the soaring cost of legal education, many who finally make it through the university and the Nigerian Law School find that their dreams soon collide with a harsh professional reality.

Findings show that young lawyers, after investing six grueling years into their legal education, often enter a profession marked by low remuneration, poor welfare conditions, and, in many cases, toxic work environments. The early years at the Bar particularly in private chambers are frequently marred by meagre pay, unreasonable workloads, and strained relationships with senior colleagues. What should be a period of professional growth and mentorship too often becomes one of exploitation and disillusionment.

Globally, the legal profession is associated with prestige and excellence. Lawyers are not only respected in society, but they also carry the title “learned” with pride a reflection of their training, intellectual rigor, and public responsibility. Ironically, in Nigeria, this perceived prestige seldom translates into financial security or job satisfaction for young practitioners.
