The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against Nigeria’s state governors and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for failing to account for billions of naira spent as “security votes” since May 29, 2023. SERAP highlighted that despite over ₦400 billion allocated annually, insecurity persists, with some governors earmarking ₦140 billion in 2026 alone. The group seeks detailed disclosures on spending, project status, and plans to improve security infrastructure, warning that secrecy in security votes risks embezzlement and violates constitutional and human rights obligations.

US Arrests Former Ghana MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, Ex-Finance Minister Over Corruption and Immigration Violations

US authorities have arrested former Ghana MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu and ex-Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta over alleged financial crimes and immigration violations. Tamakloe-Attionu, sentenced in absentia to 10 years for embezzlement and money laundering, fled Ghana in 2019 for medical reasons and never returned. She was detained in Nevada on January 6, 2026, following an extradition request submitted in July 2024. Ofori-Atta, detained in Virginia for overstaying his visa, faces 78 corruption-related charges in Ghana. Extradition proceedings are underway to bring both back to Ghana for trial or to serve their sentences.

A security expert, Dr. Oluwasegun Musa, has warned that corruption remains the central driver of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and growing drug trafficking menace. Musa stressed that fighting corruption is a national security imperative critical to restoring public trust, strengthening security institutions and curbing violent crime and drug abuse.

FEDCAM Workers Accuse Management of Intimidation, Staff Downgrading and Embezzlement as Alternative Medicine College Crisis Deepens

Workers at the Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (FEDCAM) have accused the institution’s management of intimidation, arbitrary downgrading of staff, and financial mismanagement, alleging years of administrative abuse and violation of its establishing law. Staff members claim the crisis dates back to 2010 when the Federal Ministry of Health took over the college after it was shut down by the National Universities Commission, installing an interim management that allegedly mismanaged budgets without proper infrastructure or academic output. They further allege illegal appointment of a Sole Administrator instead of a substantive Provost, unlawful recruitment of retirees into key positions, cancellation of career progressions, and deliberate efforts to frustrate senior staff. The Sole Administrator, however, denied the allegations, insisting his mandate is to correct long-standing irregularities, defend accountability, and address the absence of academic programmes despite years of staff promotions and salary payments.

Nigerian Police, Church Leaders Brutalised, Beat Me Into Coma During Convention For Asking Question–First African Church PRO

Mr. Soneye Sunday, Public Relations Officer of the First African Church Mission, has accused Nigerian police officers and church leaders of beating him into a coma during the mission’s convention in Omo Ijebu, Lagos, on August 14, 2025.

He alleged that after questioning alleged constitutional forgery and financial mismanagement by Primate Matilukuro Oludare, the cleric ordered that he be “dealt with.” Police officers and loyalists reportedly assaulted him, hitting him with batons until he collapsed. Soneye said police even tried to block his evacuation, and he was only saved after members protested and rushed him to the hospital, where doctors confirmed a head fracture.

Despite his critical state, the primate allegedly continued the meeting and moved for Soneye’s suspension. He further accused church leaders of embezzlement, forgery, extortion, and intimidation.

Neither the Nigerian Police nor the church leadership has issued an official response.

A court in Equatorial Guinea has sentenced Ruslan Obiang Nsue, son of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, to six years in prison for illegally selling an aircraft belonging to the national airline.

According to Supreme Court press director Hilario Mitogo, the ruling on Tuesday stated that Obiang Nsue could avoid jail if he reimburses Ceiba Intercontinental about $255,000 for the missing ATR 72-500 plane, in addition to damages and a state fine.

The 50-year-old, a former director of Ceiba Intercontinental, was accused of selling the aircraft to a Spanish company and keeping the proceeds. He was first placed under house arrest in 2023 by his half-brother, Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue.

The court, however, acquitted him of separate charges of embezzlement and abuse of office. Obiang Nsue, who has also served as secretary of state for sports and youth, is one of several children of President Obiang, who has ruled the oil-rich Central African nation for 46 years.

In a related case abroad, his half-brother, Vice-President Obiang Mangue, was handed a suspended prison sentence and fined $35 million by a French court in 2021 for embezzling public funds.

The bank further mandated that each PoS device must capture and transmit its location at the start of every transaction, with any activity conducted beyond a 10-meter radius of the registered merchant’s address automatically flagged.

Licensed operators, including major banks and leading fintech firms such as Moniepoint, OPay, and PalmPay, must register each terminal with a payment aggregator and provide accurate merchant coordinates. CBN warned that all terminals failing to comply with the directive by the October 20, 2025 deadline will be disabled from operating.

Exposed: Alleged Embezzlement of Police Funds Under IGP Egbetokun Sparks Outrage

Recent reports have surfaced alleging that the quarterly allocation of ₦4 million (approximately $2,500) designated for state police commands has been misappropriated by the Police Management Team under the leadership of Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun. This revelation has intensified concerns over financial mismanagement within the Nigeria Police Force.

Despite petitions submitted, there has been little to no action taken on the matter.

The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has harshly criticized the Tinubu administration over its recent plans to secure fresh loans, accusing top government officials of embezzling previously borrowed funds.
