• Whistleblower Victory: Ogun Nurse Reinstated

The National Industrial Court has ordered the reinstatement of Thomas Olamide to the Ogun State College of Health Technology after she was dismissed for exposing corruption, theft, and misconduct at the institution.

The court ruled her termination illegal and null, awarding her N5 million in damages and back pay.
Lawyer Timothy Adewale described the ruling as a watershed moment, noting that it protects whistleblowers even without a statutory law in Nigeria.

Olamide had reported NHIS drug hoarding, theft of government property, and harassment of students, which led to her dismissal. The judgment is hailed as a victory for justice and anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria.

  • Fake Gold Deal Busted in Uganda — Seven Arrested for Scamming Nigerian Businessman of $70,000

The Ugandan State House Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested seven suspects, including Congolese and Ugandan nationals, over a $70,000 fake gold scam targeting a Nigerian businessman. Authorities recovered 150kg of counterfeit gold and warned investors to verify deals before parting with their money.

The suspects allegedly posed as gold sellers, clearing agents, and company officials, convincing the victim, Mark Gbillah, that they could supply seven kilograms of gold through Legacy Refinery Limited and Emerod Agency Limited. Investigations later revealed the firms had no gold.

The arrests were made after Gbillah reported the scam, enabling authorities to set up a sting operation that caught the fraudsters before they could extort more funds.
Police seized 150 kilograms of fake gold bars and imitation nuggets used to deceive other potential victims.

Officials have urged the public to conduct due diligence and report suspicious business activities to avoid falling prey to similar fraud. The suspects will be charged in court soon.

  • Atiku Accuses Tinubu of Using EFCC to Target Opposition, Alleges Tambuwal’s Detention Is Politically Motivated

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of detaining former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, on the direct orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement posted on X, Atiku claimed the sole reason for Tambuwal’s detention was his membership in the opposition coalition. He described it as part of a wider strategy by the Tinubu administration to harass, intimidate, and cripple opposition forces.

Atiku alleged that the current government has turned the fight against corruption into a political weapon aimed at coercing opposition leaders into joining the ruling party. While stressing the importance of a genuine anti-corruption campaign that enjoys national support, he condemned its weaponization for political gain — calling for strong resistance from civil society and the international community.

“It is as though anyone associated with the opposition is targeted with phantom corruption allegations,” Atiku wrote, adding, “Once coerced into Tinubu’s political fold, their so-called ‘sins’ are instantly forgiven.”

He reaffirmed that opposition members would not yield to what he called “anti-democratic machinations” designed to force Nigeria into a one-party state.

  • FG Orders Fresh Civil Service Verification Over Job Racketeering Scandal — Fake Letters to Be Flushed Out

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has launched a new verification exercise targeting thousands of civil servants recruited between 2013 and 2020, amid allegations of job racketeering and the sale of employment slots.

In a circular dated August 4, 2025, Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) Permanent Secretary, Ndiomu Ebiogeh Philip, said the exercise is aimed at officers who skipped the 2021 verification. Anyone absent this time will be deemed to hold a fake appointment letter and removed from service, with no further extensions granted.

The move follows a petition by Martins Oghenerhoro Richard Atijegbe, a Ministry of Works staff, who alleged that senior officials sold federal jobs for up to ₦2.5 million, issuing fake letters and quickly placing unqualified recruits on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). Martins, who claims he is now facing retaliation for exposing the scandal, accused the ministry of fraud and cover-ups. The ministry, however, has dismissed the allegations as “fictitious.”

Affected officers must check published lists online or on notice boards, and present original and photocopies of documents including appointment and promotion letters, gazette confirmations, and July 2025 IPPIS payslips. The exercise will run August 18–28, 2025, covering ministries like Agriculture, Defence, Education, Justice, Works, and others.
