The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it is ready to welcome former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, back into the party if he chooses to return.

This was revealed by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, during an interaction with journalists following a courtesy visit by Alhaji Yusuf Ata, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.

Ganduje stated that the APC is focused on deepening democratic values and expanding political inclusion in Nigeria. Addressing Kwankwaso’s possible return, he used a metaphor to describe the former governor’s political position: “Kwankwaso is like a fish out of water, trying to find its way back in.”

He added, “We cannot say we won’t accommodate him. A friend in need is a friend indeed. We won’t abandon him if he decides to return. When you see your son running back home for shelter, and you’re the big brother in a big house, morally, it is right to accept him.”

While extending the olive branch, Ganduje emphasized that the APC remains open and inclusive, reinforcing the party’s position as a home for all progressives.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Yusuf Ata, a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu and vowed to deliver Kano State for the APC in the 2027 elections. “We are fully behind Tinubu and working tirelessly to secure Kano for him in 2027,” Ata said.

On the issue of Kwankwaso’s potential reentry into the party, Ata voiced some reservations. “Personally, I would prefer he doesn’t return to APC. But if our national chairman decides otherwise, I will respect the party’s decision.”

Rumors have swirled in recent weeks about Kwankwaso’s possible defection to the APC amid growing internal tensions within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), where he remains a prominent leader. Although no official statement has been made, the speculations have intensified as political realignments begin to shape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kano State, a key political battleground, is currently governed by the NNPP, but cracks within the party leadership have led to speculation about potential defections and shifting alliances.
