• "Dangote is the person sabotaging our economy"- PENGASSAN president.

The President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Festus Osifo, has accused the chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, of sabotaging the Nigerian economy.

News recalls that the row between PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery escalated on Sunday, September 28, 2025, after the union directed all its members across the country to withdraw their services, following the reported sack of at least 800 workers.

The development, union leaders said, amounted to a direct attack on workers’ rights and the freedom of association, following the mass enrollment of staff in PENGASSAN at the refinery.

The refinery’s management, however, insists that the dismissals were part of an internal restructuring exercise.

The company also resisted unionisation efforts by its workers, sparking accusations of anti-labour practices.

Speaking on the ongoing rift, Osifo, during an interview on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television, said Dangote is Sabotaging Nigeria’s economy despite benefiting from the country.

He said, “The person that is sabotaging our economy is Aliko Dangote. The man is who he is today because of Nigeria.

“Nigeria gave Dangote a single licence to import flour, sugar and salt.

“Dangote built his refinery with our money; the Nigerian government subsidised FX for him to build the refinery.”

  • Dangote Refinery: Change Has Come to the Oil Sector, Nigerian Economy, Otedola Tells DAPPMAN.

Nigeria’s billionaire businessman, Mr Femi Otedola, yesterday waded into the ongoing fuel supply disagreement between the Dangote Refinery and the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), advising the association to innovate or perish

The philanthropist stressed that he had followed the debate around the fuel supply issues between both parties recently, noting that he felt compelled to provide some perspective, especially as it relates to the future of the country.

In a statement on recent issues in the oil and gas sector, especially in the downstream, Otedola also congratulated Aliko Dangote on the success achieved so far since his refinery commenced operations, describing it as a historic leap for Nigeria’s energy independence and economic future.
Otedola posited that Nigeria remains threatened by entrenched cabals who still believe they can resist change, but maintained that history has shown time and again that change can only be delayed, but never halted.

  • US Dollar No Longer King Over Naira, But Atiku, El-Rufai, Obi Won’t Celebrate – Presidency

The Presidency has reacted to reports that some Chinese traders now accept naira cards for transactions, describing it as proof that the Nigerian currency is gaining international confidence.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said on Tuesday that the development shows the US dollar is “no longer the ultimate king,” crediting President Bola Tinubu’s reforms for strengthening the naira.

    Posting on X, Onanuga wrote:

“This is a salutary development for the Nigerian economy. The Tinubu reforms are making foreigners have faith in the Naira. The Almighty US dollar is not the ultimate king here. The Naira is waxing stronger as an international means of exchange. I also buy some items on Chinese platforms. I can confirm that they accept Naira cards.”

However, Onanuga argued that opposition leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi would not acknowledge or celebrate the development.

“They are waiting for disasters to vent their political frustration on President Tinubu,” he added.

  • PETER OBI SHOWS EVIDENCE OF HIS DEALINGS WITH ABACHA.

With allegations making the rounds on his alleged involvement in the government of late Military dictator, General Sani Abacha, former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has released details of his engagement to set the record straight.

Naija News reports that Obi’s clarification followed recent social media narratives and political commentary suggesting that Obi had ties with the Abacha junta, which ruled Nigeria from 1993 to 1998 and was widely condemned for human rights abuses and large-scale corruption.

Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri had claimed that Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), was involved with the Abacha regime through activities at Tincan Island Port in Lagos.

But in a statement on Wednesday, Peter Obi released letters that documented his co-opting, along with others, into the Taskforce on the decongestion of the Ports.

The former governor maintained that he had never met General Sani Abacha before that encounter.

He stated that his meeting with Abacha was borne out of concern as a trader and importer over the prolonged delays in clearing goods at the ports.

According to him, Abacha was approached to seek pragmatic solutions to the matter affecting economic activity and livelihoods.

Peter Obi’s statement read: “In consonance with my established principles of defending everything I am involved in, and in the interest of all men and women of goodwill, especially those committed to the pursuit of truth, I hereby attach the letter which documents my co-opting, along with others, into the Taskforce on the decongestion of the Ports.

“As I stated during my interview at the weekend and consistently maintained in the past, I had never met General Sani Abacha before that encounter. Our meeting with him was borne out of collective concern as traders and importers over the prolonged delays in clearing goods at the ports. We approached him not as political actors, but as concerned citizens seeking pragmatic solutions to a matter affecting economic activity and livelihoods.

“Our intention was clear: to advocate for efficiency, and to propose practical steps towards restoring normalcy in port operations for the benefit of the wider business community and, ultimately, the Nigerian economy.

“This clarification is offered in the interest of truth, to reaffirm that our actions were driven solely by a sense of civic duty and not political ambition.

“I don’t expect this copious evidence to bury this Abacha case because the mischief makers have ulterior motives, but it’s being placed in the public space for posterity and in line with my transparency pledge to Nigerians on any issue I am involved in.”
