The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the November 8 Anambra State election, John Nwosu, has criticized incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo, accusing him of failing the people during his tenure.

Speaking on ‘Prime Time’ on Arise Television, Nwosu highlighted that four years in office is crucial for a state’s progress and said Soludo’s administration has fallen short.

“The indices are there for everyone to see, starting with insecurity. In the last three and a half years, Anambra has lost people to kidnappings,” he stated.



He cited Ihiala Local Government, home to the owner of Air Peace, as a stark example:

“That area has been ravaged by insecurity for over three years. Residents have been forced to hold weddings and burials outside their hometown because they cannot return safely,” Nwosu added.

“We Won’t Pay Ransom or Negotiate with Bandits” — Niger Governor Bago Declares, Orders Statewide Mining Ban.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has vowed that his administration will neither negotiate with bandits nor pay ransom for kidnapped victims, insisting that such actions only empower criminals and fuel insecurity across the state.

Bago made the declaration during a condolence visit to residents of Rijau and Magama Local Government Areas, where several communities were recently attacked by bandits in the Kontagora axis.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Print Media, Aisha Wakaso, the governor said Niger State had reached a critical point that demands collective resistance from its people. He warned that ransom payments would only commercialise kidn+pping and make the cr+me more lucrative.

“I will not negotiate with bandits. I will not pay ransom. The moment we start paying, they will open shop on our heads and keep kidnapping people,” Bago said. “This is a war situation, and we must all rise to defend ourselves. The constitution empowers us to protect lives and property, and we will not back down.”

In addition, Governor Bago declared a total ban on mining activities across Niger State’s Zone C, which includes Magama, Kontagora, Rijau, Wushishi, Mariga, Borgu, Mashegu, and Agwara LGAs. He linked illegal mining to the rising wave of insecurity, alleging that many miners operate freely in forest zones that are unsafe for residents.

“It is suspicious that miners can enter the forests freely, yet the bandits don’t touch them,” he stated, directing the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to arrest anyone caught engaging in mining activities.

Bandits kidnap INEC staff in Kogi.

Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday abducted staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, along Aloma Road in Kogi State.

The victims, all female staff, were reportedly travelling from Abuja to Anambra State on an official assignment ahead of the forthcoming governorship election when the incident occurred.

The assailants were said to have blocked the highway, fired shots at the vehicle, and shattered its windscreen. None of the occupants of the vehicle was hit by the bullets.

The INEC officials were reportedly deployed to Anambra for the printing of the voters’ register and other election materials in preparation for the governorship poll scheduled for the first week of November.

The gunmen were said to have abducted all the occupants of the bus, including the driver and his wife.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful.

Abducted Kwara Businessman Freed After N110 Million Ransom Payment.

A businessman identified as Suleiman Ndana, popularly known as “Manager,” who was abducted last month from Tsaragi community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained his freedom following the payment of a ₦110 million ransom just hours before a military rescue operation.

Sources close to the victim confirmed that Ndana was among those recovered by Nigerian Army troops during a raid on the kidnappers’ hideout on Friday. A friend of the businessman disclosed that the abductors had issued grave threats as military pressure mounted in the forest where they were hiding, vowing to kill Ndana if the ransom was not paid immediately.

Under the intense ultimatum, his family and associates reportedly delivered the ₦110 million ransom at an undisclosed location. Shortly after the payment, soldiers stormed the area, leading to Ndana’s release.

His freedom marks a breakthrough for the ongoing military operation tagged Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Kwara North, even as it underscores the moral dilemma faced by families forced to negotiate with kidnappers under life-threatening circumstances.

Meanwhile, residents of Patigi Local Government Area recently staged mass protests over the worsening insecurity in Kwara North. Youths, elders, and community leaders took to the streets demanding urgent government intervention, alleging that persistent killings and abductions had crippled economic life and driven medical personnel out of local hospitals.

Protesters accused the state government and federal representatives of neglect, citing the exodus of doctors from Patigi General Hospital and the growing presence of suspected armed herders in rural settlements. They called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to deploy more security forces and relocate Kara Market, which they claim has become a hotspot for criminal activity.

The protesters warned that without swift action, insecurity could lead to total economic collapse in parts of Kwara North, lamenting that millions are lost daily to ransom payments, farm attacks, and the loss of livelihoods.

Tinubu Urges World Leaders To Declare Theft Of Mineral Resources An International Crime.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on world leaders to recognise the stealing of countries’ mineral resources through illegal mining and smuggling as an international crime.

Speaking at the 7th Annual General Assembly of the Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) in Abuja, the President said the illegal exploitation of Africa’s natural resources has become a global threat to economic stability and peace.

Tinubu lamented that billions of dollars are lost yearly to mineral smuggling, corruption, and illicit trade, which he said fuel insecurity, kidnapping and banditry across the continent.

“The stealing of our countries’ mineral resources should no longer be treated as a local issue. It is an international cr+me that undermines peace and stability,” he said.

The President urged the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the broader international community to strengthen legal frameworks that criminalize illegal mining and resource theft.

He also called for collective regional action to trace and recover stolen assets, while emphasizing transparency in their use. Tinubu disclosed that Nigeria has so far channelled over ₦100 billion in recovered proceeds into social intervention projects such as the Student Loan Scheme and the Consumer Credit Scheme.

“No nation can win this fight alone. We must build stronger partnerships and ensure that those who profit from our collective wealth face justice,” he added.

Tinubu further appealed to world leaders to support a global convention against resource theft, similar to existing international laws against drug and human trafficking.

Lagos Government Re-Arraigns Convicted Kidnapper, Evans, Over Alleged Murder of Police Officers.

The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, on fresh charges of murdering two police officers.

Evans was re-arraigned on Monday alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, before Justice A.O. Ogala on a five-count charge bordering on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to kidnap. Both defendants pleaded not guilty.

The duo, currently held at the Kirikiri Maximum Custodial Centre following convictions in separate cases, were previously being tried before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo before her retirement.

Prosecutors alleged that Evans and Emeka murdered police officers Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi on August 27, 2013, in the Festac area of Lagos. They are also accused of attempting to kidnap Vincent Obianodo, chairman of Young Shall Grow Motors.

The case, which has seen multiple adjournments and was previously marked by a plea bargain attempt by Evans, has now been reassigned to a new judge. Both defendants continue to face several other criminal trials in various courts for related offences.

Insecurity: "Nigerians Now Safer Under Tinubu" — Bwala

The Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has declared that Nigerians are now safer than they were before 2023, crediting the improvement in national security to the current administration’s policies and reforms.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Bwala said incidents such as mass prison breaks, frequent kidnappings, and widespread terrorist attacks had significantly reduced since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.

“Before 2023, there were prison breaks everywhere in Nigeria even here in Abuja. In broad daylight, people were being kidnapped before President Bola Tinubu came on board,” he said. “After he became president, we have not had prison breaks. People are going about their businesses all over the country.”

Bwala, who previously served as spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation before joining the Tinubu administration, argued that while isolated cases of insecurity still exist, they no longer threaten the country’s stability.

“There are still skirmishes here and there, but they are no longer the order of the day. The president’s leadership has restored relative calm,” he added.

Reacting to recent allegations by U.S. lawmakers that the Nigerian government was enabling a “Christian genocide,” Bwala dismissed the claims as false and politically motivated. He said the controversial report cited abroad was allegedly produced by a local civil society group with links to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“No faith group is being targeted in Nigeria. The allegation of religious persecution is baseless and unfair to the country’s security agencies who have been risking their lives to protect all citizens,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to acknowledge the strides recorded under Tinubu’s leadership while continuing to support government efforts to consolidate peace and stability across the federation.

Bwala also responded to recent claims by U.S. lawmakers led by Senator Ted Cruz, who accused the Nigerian government of enabling a “Christian genocide.” He dismissed the allegations as false and politically motivated, maintaining that insecurity in Nigeria is not religiously driven.

“That genocide claim is a well-coordinated agenda,” Bwala explained, alleging that the report cited by the U.S. senators originated from a local group with ties to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).


According to him, the controversy intensified after Vice President Kashim Shettima’s address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which boosted Nigeria’s international visibility and possibly drew political backlash.

“Insecurity is not tied to any faith or region. What we are witnessing is steady progress in restoring law and order across Nigeria,” he concluded.

Meet Notorious Kidnap Kingpin Pardoned by President Tinubu.

A wave of outrage and disbelief has trailed the release of 44-year-old Kelvin Prosper Oniarah — the infamous Delta-born kidnap kingpin once declared one of Nigeria’s most dangerous criminals — following his inclusion in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s latest round of presidential pardons.

According to a report by The Jerusalem Post on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, the statement marks one of the first public acknowledgments within Iran’s ruling establishment that the Gaza war has weakened, rather than strengthened, Tehran’s strategic position in the Middle East.

In an editorial published this week, the Islamic Republic newspaper overseen by a representative of Khamenei sharply departed from the regime’s long-standing narrative that celebrated the attack as a victory for the so-called “Axis of Resistance.” “Contrary to many opinions and analyses, the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ operation was a mistake,” the paper wrote, referring to Hamas’s coordinated assault that killed and kidnapped thousands inside Israel on October 7, 2023.

Christian Genocide: US Rep member wants Nigeria designated as country of particular concern.

The Member representing West Virginia's 2nd District in the United States Congress, Riley Moore, has written a letter to the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, urging him to take immediate action to address the systematic persecution and slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.

He lamented that Nigeria has become the deadliest place in the world to be a Christian, urging the United States not to stand idly by.

He called on Rubio to use all diplomatic tools available, including designating Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) and halting arms sales and all associated technical support until the Nigerian government demonstrates it is sufficiently committed to ending this reign of persecution and slaughter.

"The sheer number of Christians who suffer persecution daily for their faith, including the staggering number who have been murdered for proclaiming Jesus Christ as their savior is horrific. More than 7,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria in 2025 already, an average of 35 murders per day. That includes at least 50 Christians brutally martyred on Palm Sunday and another 200 killed in June. This is consistent with reports from Open Doors that more Christians are killed every year in Nigeria than the rest of the world combined. These relentless persecutions have continued for years and show no signs of abating," Moore said.

"Since 2015, at least 250 Catholic clergy have been attacked in addition to another 350 clergy from other denominations. On Ash Wednesday this year, a priest in north-central Nigeria was kidnapped and brutally murdered. Between the Boko Haram uprising in July 2009 and September 2025, 19,100 Christian churches in Nigeria have been attacked or destroyed, representing an average of 1,200 churches per year, 100 per month, or more than three per day. In addition, at least 850 Christians are currently being held for ransom in jihadist camps in extreme conditions. These individuals are tortured or killed if ransom isn't paid. Reports estimate at least 15 million people have been displaced by the rampant acts of violence and terror in Nigeria. Simply put, this must end.

"Muslim extremist groups such as ISIS-West Africa, Ansaru, and Boko Haram are major perpetrators. Just last week, Boko Haram ravaged Kirawa, Nigeria, displacing thousands. But just as concerning are reports that corrupt cells of the Nigerian government may be complicit, and even directly involved, in some of these attacks. In Northern states such as Kano, regional governments have backed and facilitated the closing of Christian orphanages and forced the children to be reeducated as Muslims. The Nigerian federal government also maintains and enforces anti-blasphemy laws, and several states within Nigeria have even harsher anti-blasphemy laws than the federal government. This includes sentencing an individual to 24 years in prison for 'insulting the Prophet Mohammed.'

Moore lamented that the Nigerian government has sought to downplay the genocide of Christians, arguing that Nigeria has a broader issue with terrorism that affects people of all faiths.

He, however, pointed out that while Nigerians of all faiths face terrorism and death at the hands of extremists, Christians are far and away the most targeted for persecution and violence.

Veterinary Doctor Murdered in Abuja, his Three Children Still Missing.

Renowned veterinary doctor and former NVMA FCT chairman, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, has been murdered in Abuja.

Armed men reportedly invaded his Kubwa residence, abducting him and his three children. While his wife and family prayed for his safety, his body was later found dumped by the roadside, with his children still missing.

A friend, Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, shared the tragic news on Facebook, writing:
“Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa Abuja was found dead. The three children are yet to be released. May God please intervene.”

The incident follows the recent murder of Arise TV anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, killed during an armed robbery at her Katampe home. The 29-year-old lawyer-turned-journalist was known for her advocacy on gender-based violence and education reform.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a thorough investigation into Maduagwu’s death, urging security agencies to bring the culprits to justice.

Ogbu’s murder has also triggered grief and outrage. A colleague mourned him as “a great loss”, writing:

“Nigeria just happened to my age-long friend, Ifeanyi… His untimely death is a painful reminder of the insecurity that continues to affect families and communities in Nigeria.”

The veterinary community has described him as a dedicated and selfless professional. The killings of both Ogbu and Maduagwu have renewed calls for urgent action on insecurity in the nation’s capital.

Jonathan noted that Boko Haram’s activities, which began in 2009, worsened during his presidency. “I battled Boko Haram for five years as President. Insecurity: Gunmen Kidnap Prominent Lawyer in Niger State on Independence Day.

Heavily armed terrorists have attacked Ibeto town in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting a prominent lawyer, Barrister Isyaku Muhammed Danjuma, along with several residents in a daring daylight raid.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, coinciding with Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary celebrations.

A family source revealed that the attackers stormed the community in large numbers, wielding sophisticated weapons.

“A lot of them armed with dangerous weapons and guns even bigger than what the security operatives would carry entered our town today (early morning). They were targeting prominent people to abduct. So that was how they came for Barrister Isyaku Muhammed Danjuma. He is currently with them. They have taken him away into the bush. These bandits operated openly for hours without any police or army to rescue them,” the source said.

Checks showed that Barrister Isyaku had posted about the terrorists’ invasion on his Facebook page shortly before his abduction.
He wrote:

“Independence Day but bandits are here in Ibeto running riot.”

Moments later, his fears became reality.

The abduction was further confirmed by his associate, Mohd Gbedako Ndatsu, who reacted under the lawyer’s Facebook post.

“Please when you come across this post, pray for him because I just received a devastating news now that the poster has been kidnapped,” Ndatsu wrote.

This latest abduction follows a similar incident last week, when another young lawyer, Barrister Onyesom Peace Udoka, was kidnapped alongside her sister while returning home from her Call to Bar ceremony. The two were later freed after spending several days in captivity.

Udoka’s abduction occurred around Lokoja, Kogi State, on Friday, September 27, 2025, just days after she was officially called to the bar in Abuja on September 23.

Reckless driver kill five FRSC personnel on duty.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of five of its officers in September 2025 after being knocked down by reckless motorists while on duty.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the incidents occurred across five formations of the Corps within the month.

The officers were killed in separate crashes recorded on September 6 in Ekiti Sector Command; September 8 in Ogun Sector Command; September 15 in Taraba Sector Command; September 19 along Jos By-Pass Unit Command; and September 24 in Obollo Afor Unit Command.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, who described the deaths as “grievously saddening,” ordered that all drivers responsible be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law to serve as deterrence.

“These are not mere statistics. They were fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners whose lives were cut short in the line of duty while safeguarding Nigerian roads,” the statement read.

The Corps Marshal expressed concern over the growing hazards confronting FRSC personnel, noting that beyond speeding vehicles, operatives are also increasingly exposed to violent attacks, kidnapping, and targeted assaults.

He warned that the Corps would no longer tolerate acts that endanger its staff, stressing that offenders will face severe legal consequences.

While commiserating with the families of the deceased, Mr Mohammed urged Nigerians to honour the memory of the fallen officers by respecting traffic laws and showing regard for FRSC personnel on duty.

He also directed operatives nationwide to heighten their alertness and prioritise personal safety.

In addition, the Corps is stepping up engagements with relevant authorities to enhance protection for its officers and installations.

“The FRSC will continue to safeguard lives on Nigerian highways, but the safety of our personnel must equally be guaranteed,” he said.
