  • Uganda Airlines Launches Cheaper Nigeria Flights to Compete With Air Peace, Arik and Others

Uganda Airlines has officially commenced flight operations in Nigeria, beginning with Lagos and expanding to Abuja and Kano, promising cheaper fares and faster connectivity between West and East Africa. The airline’s inaugural flight landed at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport two decades after Nigeria and Uganda signed their BASA agreement.

With three weekly flights now approved, the Ugandan carrier reduces travel time between both countries from 10 hours to just three and a half. Aviation stakeholders say the entry of Uganda Airlines will boost competition, lower ticket prices, and provide easier connections to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Nigeria’s Ministry of Aviation also confirmed new route approvals as the country continues attracting more foreign airlines despite industry challenges.

  • Surprise Reunion in Kano! — Governor Abba Yusuf and Ex-Governor Ganduje Meet for the First Time Since 2023 Election

In a rare and unexpected encounter, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his predecessor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, came face-to-face on Tuesday for the first time since the fiercely contested 2023 gubernatorial election.

According to DAILY POST, the meeting occurred at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, marking nearly two years since the political rivals last crossed paths.

Witnesses described the moment as cordial and surprisingly friendly, as both men exchanged pleasantries despite their history of political tension.

Ganduje, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), was reportedly in Kano for an inspection visit, while Governor Yusuf was preparing to board a flight to Abuja.

Their unexpected encounter comes years after Ganduje chose not to personally hand over power to Yusuf in 2023, instead delegating the task to then Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji.

Governor Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) had defeated Ganduje’s preferred candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in what was one of Nigeria’s most intense gubernatorial races.

The brief exchange at the airport has since stirred public interest, with many interpreting it as a possible symbol of reconciliation or at least mutual respect between two of Kano’s most influential political figures.

  • Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Alleges Some Nigerian Pilots Smoke Indian Hemp Before Flights, Calls for Urgent Regulatory Action.

Former Abia State governor and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, has sparked concern over alleged drug use among Nigerian pilots, claiming that some smoke Indian hemp before flying passengers.

Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary session, Kalu urged aviation regulators to take immediate action to safeguard travelers, accusing agencies of negligence and poor oversight.
“The agencies overseeing these pilots are not doing enough. I’ve personally refused to board a flight because the pilot didn’t seem normal. Some of them smoke Indian hemp yes, it’s true,” he said.

He faulted aviation authorities such as the NCAA and NEMA for failing to conduct proper medical and drug assessments. “Pilots walk into the cockpit without anyone checking their blood pressure or drug level. There’s no on-the-spot testing. It’s dangerous,” he warned.

Kalu recounted once stopping a flight over concerns about a pilot’s condition and urged the Minister of Aviation to step up supervision. “Some take Indian hemp like cigarettes. If you go close, you can smell it,” he alleged.

His remarks come weeks after the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) reportedly said two Air Peace pilots tested positive for alcoqAzqdqazqhol and cannabis following a July 2025 runway incident at Port Harcourt International Airport.

Air Peace, however, dismissed the claim, saying no crew member tested positive and that the airline enforces a zero-tolerance policy on substance use. “Our crew were tested within an hour, and all results were negative,” the airline stated.

The attack on Mama Pee on Saturday. It followed her reported confrontation with Abure at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where she accused him of frustrating Nigerians.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has strongly condemned the attack on Precious Onuche, popularly known as Mama P, by thugs suspected to be loyal to the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, at the Benin Airport in Edo State.

The attack on Mama Pee on Saturday. It followed her reported confrontation with Abure at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where she accused him of frustrating Nigerians.

According to eyewitnesses, Mama Pee saw Abure at the airport trying to board a plane and told him, "Is it not Julius Abure? You're the one frustrating Nigerians." Abure responded with, "How can?"

Mama Pee continued, "In case nobody has told you, you're the one frustrating Nigerians. Are you not Julius Abure? What are you now doing with Labour Party? Police are looking for you. You've destroyed the Labour Party, and you're entering an aeroplane? May God punish all of you."

The situation escalated upon arrival at Benin Airport, where Mama Pee was attacked by suspected thugs loyal to Abure, inflicting injuries on her. Despite the attack, the police arrested and detained her, letting the attackers go free.

Reacting to the assault, Sowore, a former presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), condemned the attack on Mama Pee, describing it as unacceptable.

“I strongly condemn the Benin City airport attack on MamaPee, a courageous political activist who uses social media effectively to call out societal wrongs,” Sowore said.
