  • Fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) reportedly ambushed a Nigerian military convoy in Borno State on Friday night, abducting a serving general and killing several soldiers, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), according to HumAngle.

The abducted general is said to be a brigade commander who was leading the troops at the time of the attack.

If confirmed, HumAngle — a platform focused on conflict and humanitarian crises — notes that this would be the first recorded instance of an extremist group in Nigeria capturing a serving general directly from the frontline.

While insurgents have previously killed high-ranking military officers, reports of their abducting are extremely rare.

Military authorities have yet to release an official statement, and the exact casualty figures remain unknown.

The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Onyechi Anele, has also not responded to inquiries about the incident.

  • Troops rescue 74 NYSC members from kidnappers hotspot in Borno.

In a dramatic late-night operation, troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, rescued 74 stranded National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from what could have been a major abduction by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Borno State.

According to the Force’s Media Information Officer, Sani Uba, the incident occurred around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday after the corps members 36 males and 38 females were left stranded when their 3 buses broke down near a notorious kidnapping hotspot.

Uba revealed that troops swiftly moved in after a military surveillance system picked up suspicious movement involving the vehicles.

“On arrival, troops discovered the stranded NYSC members and quickly moved to secure them from a likely Boko Haram or ISWAP attack,” he stated.

The rescued corps members are currently being sheltered at the Buratai military base while arrangements for their safe evacuation are underway.

This latest intervention follows a string of successful counterterrorism operations in Borno, where troops recently rescued 86 kidnapped victims and arrested 29 suspected terrorist logistics suppliers.

Earlier this week, the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 OPHK intercepted Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters at Dutse Kura, destroying 11 terrorist structures and recovering a cache of weapons, vehicles, and motorcycles.

Security officials have hailed the swift response as a major success in ongoing efforts to protect civilians and dismantle terrorist strongholds in the North East.

  • NAF Crushes ISWAP Fighters, Destroys Bandit Camps Across Borno, Kwara, Katsina, Zamfara and Kaduna.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its nationwide counterterrorism and anti-banditry campaign, carrying out a series of precision airstrikes that eliminated ISWAP fighters and dismantled multiple criminal hideouts across the northern region.

According to a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the coordinated strikes targeted ISWAP strongholds in Mallam Fatori and Shuwaram in Borno State, as well as bandit enclaves in Garin Dandi and Chigogo in Kwara State, and Zango Hill in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State. Additional operations were also conducted in parts of Zamfara and Kaduna States.

Ejodame noted that the missions mark a significant phase in ongoing joint operations under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation FANSAN YAMMA, designed to degrade terrorist and criminal networks operating across Nigeria’s northern corridors.

He added that the success of these precision-led offensives reflects the renewed operational tempo of the Air Force, in line with directives issued by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke.

Each strike, he said, reinforces NAF’s commitment to deploying intelligence-driven, smarter airpower to deliver decisive blows against insurgents and bandits, while safeguarding citizens and strengthening national security.

  • NAF Bombs Several ISWAP Terrorists, Bandits To Death In Multiple Airstrikes.

Air strikes carried out by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have resulted in the killing of several terrorists and bandits across the country and the destruction of their hideouts.

According to a statement on Monday by the NAF Spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, scores of Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Mallam Fatori and Shuwaram, Borno State, as well as bandits’ enclaves in Garin Dandi and Chigogo, Kwara State, as well as Zango Hill in Kankara local government area of Katsina State, were affected by the strikes.

He added that the coordinated missions were carried out on November 9, 2025, based on credible intelligence on the movement and activities of the criminals.

Ejodame said the missions represent a decisive phase in ongoing joint operations under Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Fansan Yamma, aimed at degrading terrorists and criminal networks across Nigeria’s northern theatres.

News reports that the NAF airstrikes dealt a heavy blow to ISWAP terrorists entrenched in the Northern Tumbuns of Borno State.

According to the NAF spokesman, the Air Component guided by real-time Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) feeds conducted precision strikes southeast of Shuwaram before shifting to Mallam Fatori, where ISWAP elements were observed mobilising with motorcycles and boats along the Lake Chad Basin.

According to him, the strikes destroyed the insurgent hideouts, logistics hubs, and weapons storage facilities, eliminating several terrorists and crippling their mobility capabilities.

“Post-strike assessments confirmed multiple neutralizations and a significant degradation of ISWAP’s operational networks in the area,” he said.

Similarly, NAF aircraft carried out precision air interdiction missions over Garin Dandi and Chigogo in Kwara State, striking bandits,’ camps with devastating accuracy based on credible intelligence.

He said the attacks caused panic in the enemy camp and inflicted heavy losses among the criminals.

In a related operation, air assets under Operation Fansan Yamma struck Zango Hill in Kankara LGA, Katsina State, the hideout of a terrorist kingpin and his fighters.

Ejodame said the aircraft guided by actionable intelligence and ISR surveillance, executed multiple attack passes, destroying key logistics hubs and neutralizing several terrorists in one of the most decisive strikes in the region.

Furthermore, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma (Sector 1) conducted an Armed Reconnaissance mission across the northwest corridor, covering key settlements in Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kaduna States, including Kakihum, Dankolo, Kotonkoro, and Kuyello.

Ejodame said the locations served as known routes and hideouts for armed groups along the Birnin Gwari–Funtua axis.

“During the mission, coordination with Forward Operating Bases at Dankolo and Kotonkoro revealed suspicious movement near Wam Hill, where terrorists on motorcycles were spotted attempting to flee. The aircrew swiftly engaged and neutralized the targets, with no further hostile activity observed,” he said.

  • Troops Rescue 86 Kidnap Victims, Destroy Boko Haram Camp in Borno.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 86 kidnapped victims and destroyed a major Boko Haram/ISWAP camp in the Buratai–Kamuya area of Borno State.

The operation was carried out on Sunday by the 135 Special Forces Battalion following surveillance alerts of terrorists abducting civilians along the route.

According to a statement by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, the troops at Echo 1 in Dutse Kura came under heavy attack around 3:52 pm.
A Quick Response Force was deployed to reinforce them, successfully repelling the terrorists and pursuing them toward the Mangari axis.

During the pursuit, the insurgents attempted to flee with kidnapped civilians in two vehicles, but troops ambushed them, forcing the terrorists to abandon the victims.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of a Boko Haram/ISWAP camp, where 86 captives — men, women and children — were rescued unharmed.

Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, five magazines loaded with 73 rounds, PKT ammunition belts, five civilian cars, five motorcycles, eight bicycles and two tricycles. The camp was destroyed.

In a separate operation the same day, troops at Delta 1 in Mangada arrested 29 suspected Boko Haram logistics suppliers. Eight of them were identified as active couriers.

Seized items included two pickup vans and a tricycle loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, 38 jerry cans of fuel, engine oil, medical supplies, food items and two new gun-truck tyres.

The suspects and recovered items have been handed over for further investigation. Military sources say the latest operations are part of intensified efforts to cut off terrorists supply chains and limit their movement in the North-East.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on their base in Mallam Fatori, Borno State.

According to Lt-Col Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for OPHK, the terrorists launched the assault around 4:30 a.m., targeting the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kangar with drones and mortar fire. Reinforced by the Main Force from Sector 3, the soldiers fought back with support from Nigerien fighter jets, forcing the insurgents to flee into the Tumbun waterways with their dead and wounded.

Troops recovered six bodies of terrrorists, five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, over 250 rounds of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenades, drone bombs, hand grenades, and an Android phone. Additional airstrikes by Nigerian and Nigerien air forces reportedly neutralized more fleeing fighters.

Some soldiers and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members sustained minor injuries but were evacuated for treatment and are in stable condition. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) praised the troops’ bravery and reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the North-East.

Meanwhile, the trial of two top Ansaru leaders, Mahmud Usman (aka Abu Bara’a) and Abubakar Abba (aka Isah Adam), will continue on November 19, 2025, before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The duo arrested in July during a DSS-led counter-terrorism operation are accused of coordinating terrorist cells across Nigeria and funding jihadist activities through kidnapping and illegal mining. Usman, who pleaded guilty to one count of illegal mining, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Abba pleaded not guilty to all 32 terrorism-related charges.

  • Borno Spent ₦2.6bn on “Repentant” Boko Haram Members as Soldiers Warn of Leaks.

A review of Borno State’s 2025 third-quarter budget performance shows ₦2.6 billion was spent on “livelihood support for repentant Boko Haram members” between January and September, with ₦758.1 million disbursed in July–September alone.

The document also reveals limited health capital spending: the Primary Healthcare Development Board received ₦2.076 billion of an ₦8.7 billion budget for the period, while the Hospitals Management Board spent just ₦1.2 billion against a ₦10.5 billion appropriation.

Meanwhile, frontline soldiers in Yobe and Borno told SaharaReporters that some government-backed “repentant” insurgents have been leaking sensitive military information — including troop routines, weapon locations and base alarm points — to their former commanders.

One soldier said repentant fighters routinely inform terrorists about camp schedules (noting evenings between 4:00pm and 7:00pm) and the location of armouries containing rifles, GMPGs, RPGs, PKTs, grenades and explosives, making troops “extremely vulnerable.”

The reports note that, despite billions spent on reintegration, attacks by the same sects persist.

In April, Governor Babagana Zulum warned of Boko Haram regrouping around Lake Chad and the Mandara Hills and said the state has received more than 300,000 repentants in three years.

He urged greater military manpower, more air support, sophisticated drones and anti-drone systems, and a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to curb the growing threat.

Yahaya extended condolences to the families of the commissioner and the deceased police orderly, praying Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljannat Firdaus. “They died in active service to the state and the nation,” he said, while also wishing the injured driver a speedy recovery. The state government said details of the commissioner’s funeral would be announced later.

  • Borno Girl Reportedly Ends It All After Being Forced Into Marriage by Her Father.

Tragedy struck in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday evening as a young woman allegedly took her own life after being compelled by her father to marry one of his friends.

The heartbreaking incident was made public by prominent counter-insurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the details on Monday through his verified social media handle.

According to Makama, the woman whose identity has not yet been revealed ended her life shortly after the forced marriage arrangement was finalized. “Tragedy struck in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday evening, when a young woman reportedly took her own life after being forced by her father to marry one of his friends,” he stated.

Citing local sources, Makama revealed that the incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. after the victim, said to be in deep emotional distress, succumbed to the overwhelming pressure from her family to go through with the arranged marriage.

A child protection advocate, Bukar Fantami Gubio, who also confirmed the incident, described it as “heart-wrenching” and called for urgent intervention from relevant authorities.

“The emotional pain and pressure she went through as a result of this forced marriage pushed her into taking her own life. It is truly a sad situation that calls for urgent action,” Gubio said.

He appealed to human rights organizations, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure justice is served.

According to him, the case highlights the urgent need to protect the rights and dignity of young women in Nigeria, particularly in communities where forced marriages persist.

“This tragedy is a painful reminder of the importance of respecting women’s freedom of choice in marriage decisions,” he added.

Efforts by journalists to obtain an official comment from the Borno State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesperson, Nahum Kenneth Daso, did not respond to calls or messages as of the time of filing this report.

  • Boko Haram Insurgents Attack Military Base in Borno, Soldiers Killed, Others Injured.

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have launched an attack on a military base in Ngamdu, located in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

Sources told Daily Trust that the assault occurred in the early hours of Friday when a large number of insurgents stormed the camp along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway.

The attack forced the temporary closure of the Ngamdu section of the highway, leaving motorists stranded for several hours. “I left Damaturu early to reach Maiduguri by 9 a.m., but on getting to Ngamdu, the road was blocked,” a traveller said. “Security personnel asked us to be patient, but locals said Boko Haram attacked soldiers and killed some of them.”

Residents reported that the insurgents took the troops by surprise, engaging them in a fierce gun battle that lasted for hours before retreating. “They killed and wounded some soldiers,” a local source revealed.

A security source, however, told reporters that the casualty figure was not as high as initially feared. “The terrorists attempted an ambush, but our gallant soldiers repelled them. Some of our men were injured and taken to hospital, but many insurgents were also killed,” the source stated.

As of the time of filing this report, the military was yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

The Ngamdu area, which lies between Borno and Yobe states, has witnessed several attacks in recent years, as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters continue to target security formations and travellers along the busy highway.

  • Fresh Boko Haram Attacks: Gov Zulum Laments That His Warning to the Military Was Ignored.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has expressed concern over renewed Boko Haram attacks in Kirawa, Gwoza LGA, following the withdrawal of Cameroonian troops who had been securing the area.

Zulum, who visited the town on Friday with Civilian JTF and Nigerian troops, said he had earlier warned the military about the dangers of leaving border communities like Kirawa unprotected.

“I duly notified the Nigerian military of the dangers of leaving this town without security. Wilgo, Kirawa, Baga, Damasak, Malamfatori and others are strategic border communities that must be protected,” he said, according to Daily Trust.

Despite the warning, insurgents invaded on Wednesday, destroying infrastructure and homes. “Unfortunately, my request did not receive the deserved attention.

The insurgents came and vandalised everything we worked hard to rebuild. Two lives were lost, 50 houses, heavy-duty equipment, and eight vehicles were burnt,” he said.

Zulum disclosed that the Nigerian Army has agreed to redeploy troops, while the state will support the Civilian JTF and vigilante groups with logistics and protective gear. He also appealed to the federal government to release funds for military operations as the rainy season ends, stressing that irregular operations had emboldened insurgents.

“What matters is not the number of soldiers but their commitment to fight,” he added.

According to Reuters, more than 5,000 residents fled to Cameroon after insurgents seized Kirawa on Thursday, burning a military base, the district head’s palace, and dozens of homes. Boko Haram later released a video claiming responsibility for the attack.

The latest assault comes barely two weeks after a similar raid on Banki, another border town, where insurgents overran a military base and seized weapons.

  • Over 5000 People Flee to Cameroon as Boko Haram reportedly Seizes Nigerian Border Town.

According to a report by Reuters, more than 5,000 people have crossed into Cameroon after Boko Haram fighters captured the border town of Kirawa in Borno State.

The raid, which took place late Thursday, forced the district head Abdulrahman Abubakar to abandon his palace. His residence, a military barracks, and dozens of homes were set ablaze during the attack. Abubakar confirmed to Reuters that many residents fled in trucks while others escaped towards Maiduguri.

The insurgents, in a video seen by Reuters, claimed responsibility, chanting “victory belongs to God” as they torched the barracks. Survivors said Kirawa is now deserted. “Boko Haram is in control,” one escapee told the outlet.

This latest assault comes weeks after a September 19 attack on Banki, another border town, where militants overran a military base and seized weapons.

Local leaders interviewed by Reuters have appealed for urgent military reinforcements, noting that only vigilantes remain after the withdrawal of a multinational task force in August.

Borno State remains the epicenter of the 16-year insurgency led by Boko Haram and its splinter group ISWAP, whose attacks against civilians and security forces have escalated in recent months.

  • Abduction of 276 Chibok Girls Remain Indelible Scar on My Presidency — Jonathan.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has admitted that the 2014 abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls will forever remain a scar on his presidency.

He made the remark on Friday at the presentation of SCARS: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum, a memoir by former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor. Commending Irabor, Jonathan described him as “a soldier who stood for truth and never played politics with security.”

Reflecting on his tenure, Jonathan said, “One of the major scars on my government is the Chibok Girls. As Bishop Kukah said, no plastic or cosmetic surgeon can remove it. It is a scar I will die with.”

The kidnapping of 276 girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, triggered global outrage and birthed the #BringBackOurGirls campaign. Although some of the girls escaped or were freed, more than 80 remain unaccounted for.

Survivors still struggle with stigma, trauma, and interrupted education, with some returning home with children born in captivity.

Jonathan noted that Boko Haram’s activities, which began in 2009, worsened during his presidency. “I battled Boko Haram for five years as President. I thought Buhari would wipe them out quickly, but they remain. Sometimes they even had more munitions than our soldiers — that does not reflect the actions of hungry villagers,” he said.

While his administration was heavily criticised for its response to the tragedy, Jonathan defended his silence at the time, saying it was aimed at protecting sensitive intelligence. He insisted that the insurgency was more complex than many assumed and called for a renewed approach, stressing that the “carrot and stick” method might be necessary.

Over a decade later, successive governments have rescued or negotiated the release of about 189 girls, but dozens are still in captivity. The Federal Government maintains that freeing the remaining Chibok girls and Leah Sharibu remains a national priority.

  • EFCC arraigns man over ₦9m fraud in Maiduguri.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday arraigned Ali Mohammed before Justice Mohammed Maina of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri on allegations of a ₦9 million fraud.

The EFCC’s Maiduguri Zonal Directorate filed a two-count charge against Mohammed, accusing him of obtaining money by false pretence and criminal misappropriation. The charges stem from a transaction in September 2022, when Mohammed allegedly collected ₦9 million from Nuhu Alfa. Prosecutors said the funds were paid into a First Bank account in the name of Ali Bako, under the claim that they would be used for the purchase and supply of petroleum products.

One of the charges read in court stated: “That you, Ali Mohammed, on or about September 2022 in Maiduguri, Borno State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of ₦9,000,000.00 from Nuhu Alfa… under the false pretence that same is meant for an investment into the business of purchase and supply of petroleum products, a representation which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.”

Mohammed pleaded not guilty to both counts. Prosecution counsel, S.O. Saka, applied for a trial date and requested that the defendant be remanded in custody. Justice Maina granted the application, ordered Mohammed’s remand at the Maiduguri Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until Wednesday, 24 September, for trial.
