Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the allegations were unfounded, marking what activist Adaramoye Michael Lenin described as a “historic victory.” The protesters had been detained for over a year after security agencies accused them of attempting to destabilise the country during nationwide demonstrations fuelled by economic hardship, insecurity, and public frustration under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Human rights groups consistently condemned the charges as politically motivated attempts to suppress dissent. With the ruling, all accused individuals have been fully discharged.

Mrs. Asefon alleges that her husband left the family for three years, engaged in an affair with a travel agent he introduced during their planned relocation to Canada, and used his political influence along with loyalists in student unions to intimidate her. She recounts multiple incidents of threats, coordinated attacks, and interference with police investigations. Living alone with her two children in Ibadan, she says she fears for her life. Asefon, however, denies orchestrating any threats, claiming family disputes and counter-accusations from both sides are being misrepresented. He maintains that they have been separated for years and insists he has no reason to harm her. Mrs. Asefon is appealing for protection and safety for herself and her children.

PRESIDENT TINUBU SEEKS SENATE CONSENT ON TROOPS DEPLOYMENT TO BENIN REPUBLIC

President Bola Tinubu this Tuesday transmitted to the senate a request seeking its consent to deploy Nigerian troops on peace mission to Benin Republic.

In the communication the President explained that the deployment is to provide support in the country as requested by President Patrice Talon, following the recent failed coup attempt.

The deployment is in line with the protocol of the regional bloc, Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.

It is also in tandem with section 30 sub 5 of Nigeria's constitution in consultation with Nigeria Defence Council.

The request has been referred to the committee of the whole for immediate consideration.

Nigeria had earlier provided air intervention following the unconstitutional breach in Benin.

President Tinubu assured the parents that both the federal and the Niger State governments are working closely to reunite all the abducted students with their families.

"I have been briefed on the safe return of 100 students from the Catholic School in Niger State. I rejoice with Governor Umar Bago and commend our security agencies for their steadfast work in ensuring the safe return of the students to their families since the unfortunate incident on November 21.

"My directive to our security forces remains that all the students and other abducted Nigerians across the country must be rescued and brought back home safely. We must account for all the victims. The Federal Government will continue to work with Niger State and other states to secure our schools and make the learning environment safer and more conducive for our young ones.

"From now on, our security agencies, working with the governors, must prevent future kidnappings. Our children should no longer be sitting ducks for heartless terrorists intent on disrupting their education and subjecting them and their parents to unspeakable trauma," President Tinubu said.
