• Abuja Court Frees 11 #EndBadGovernance Protesters, Dismisses Treason and Terrorism Charges

A Federal High Court in Abuja has acquitted 11 activists arrested during the 2024 #EndBadGovernance protests, striking out all treason and terrorism-related charges brought against them. Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the allegations were unfounded, marking what activist Adaramoye Michael Lenin described as a “historic victory.” The protesters had been detained for over a year after security agencies accused them of attempting to destabilise the country during nationwide demonstrations fuelled by economic hardship, insecurity, and public frustration under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Human rights groups consistently condemned the charges as politically motivated attempts to suppress dissent. With the ruling, all accused individuals have been fully discharged.

  • Tinubu Reaffirms Withdrawal of Police From VIP Escorts, Orders Strict Clearance for Exceptions

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his directive withdrawing police officers from VIP escort duties, insisting that only individuals who secure his personal approval through the Inspector-General of Police will receive special protection. Speaking before the Federal Executive Council meeting, Tinubu said the decision aims to redeploy security personnel to critical national security operations, particularly the fight against kidnapping and terrorism. He ordered the Interior Minister and NSCDC to replace withdrawn police escorts with civil defence operatives and directed the NSA and DSS to review nationwide security deployments. Tinubu also emphasised arming forest guards. The directive follows a national debate reignited by Wole Soyinka, who criticised the excessively large convoy attached to Seyi Tinubu, calling it a misuse of security resources.

  • PDP Warns Nigeria Sliding Into Authoritarianism After Governor Fubara Defects to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the defection of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing his justification as “pitiful” and accusing the ruling party of weaponizing state power to coerce political actors. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong, the PDP said Fubara’s move reflects a growing erosion of democratic institutions and a dangerous shift toward authoritarian governance under President Bola Tinubu. The party warned that Nigeria is “visibly inching toward a one-party state,” urging citizens and the international community to resist what it calls a deepening decline of democratic norms.

  • Tinubu’s Aide Sunday Asefon Accused of Harassment and Threats by Estranged Wife

Sunday Asefon Adedayo, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Student Engagements, has been accused by his estranged wife of abandonment, harassment and threats to her safety. Mrs. Asefon alleges that her husband left the family for three years, engaged in an affair with a travel agent he introduced during their planned relocation to Canada, and used his political influence along with loyalists in student unions to intimidate her. She recounts multiple incidents of threats, coordinated attacks, and interference with police investigations. Living alone with her two children in Ibadan, she says she fears for her life. Asefon, however, denies orchestrating any threats, claiming family disputes and counter-accusations from both sides are being misrepresented. He maintains that they have been separated for years and insists he has no reason to harm her. Mrs. Asefon is appealing for protection and safety for herself and her children.

  • Dangote Vows to Keep Petrol Prices Low After Meeting Tinubu, Intensifies Pressure on Importers

Aliko Dangote has assured Nigerians that petrol from the Dangote Refinery will continue to sell at “reasonable” and competitive prices, a move expected to heighten pressure on fuel importers. Speaking after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Dangote said the refinery aims to stabilise domestic supply despite global volatility and persistent smuggling driven by price gaps with neighbouring countries. He emphasized that the $20bn refinery is a long-term investment, not one focused on quick profit recovery.

The refinery, which began supplying diesel and jet fuel in early 2024 and petrol in September, is driving down pump prices nationwide, with NNPC recently reducing rates at its stations. Dangote highlighted that his engagement with Tinubu focused on energy security and economic stability, noting that collaboration between government and private operators is crucial as Nigeria adjusts to post-subsidy pricing realities.

  • PRESIDENT TINUBU WELCOMES THE RETURN OF 100 CATHOLIC STUDENTS, CHARGES SECURITY AGENCIES ON SAFE RETURN OF OTHERS

President Bola Tinubu has commended the security agencies for their tireless efforts in securing the freedom of the 100 students of Papiri Catholic School in Niger State.

While expressing his joy over the safe return of the students, President Tinubu equally charged the security agencies to ensure the swift release of the remaining 115 students and their teachers who are still held hostage.

President Tinubu assured the parents that both the federal and the Niger State governments are working closely to reunite all the abducted students with their families.

"I have been briefed on the safe return of 100 students from the Catholic School in Niger State. I rejoice with Governor Umar Bago and commend our security agencies for their steadfast work in ensuring the safe return of the students to their families since the unfortunate incident on November 21.

"My directive to our security forces remains that all the students and other abducted Nigerians across the country must be rescued and brought back home safely. We must account for all the victims. The Federal Government will continue to work with Niger State and other states to secure our schools and make the learning environment safer and more conducive for our young ones.

"From now on, our security agencies, working with the governors, must prevent future kidnappings. Our children should no longer be sitting ducks for heartless terrorists intent on disrupting their education and subjecting them and their parents to unspeakable trauma," President Tinubu said.

  • Tinubu’s Benin Republic Intervention Is Unconstitutional and Impeachable — Lawyer Marshal Abubakar

Human rights lawyer Marshal Abubakar has declared President Bola Tinubu’s deployment of Nigerian troops to Benin Republic after the December 7 coup an impeachable offence, arguing it violates Section 5(4)(b) of the 1999 Constitution. He said the President lacks the power to send armed forces on combat duty outside Nigeria without prior approval from the National Assembly, regardless of ECOWAS protocols. Abubakar stressed that emergency military action is only lawful when Nigeria itself faces imminent threat — not when intervening to defend another country. He also warned that ECOWAS treaties cannot supersede the Nigerian Constitution.
Beyond the legal infractions, Abubakar expressed concern over rising coups across West Africa, linking them to corruption, weak institutions, insecurity, and leadership failures. He urged African leaders to restore public trust, strengthen democratic systems, and address governance collapse to prevent further military takeovers.

  • Dalung Lauds Tinubu’s Benin Airstrike but Questions Failure to Tackle Insecurity in Nigeria

Former minister Solomon Dalung has praised President Bola Tinubu for Nigeria’s swift military intervention in Benin Republic, describing the airstrike against coup plotters as decisive and effective. However, he criticised the government for failing to apply the same urgency to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity. Dalung questioned why operations against terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers at home lack the coordination displayed in Benin, citing unanswered attacks such as the killing of Brig. Gen. Musa Uba and mass school kidnappings. He warned that Nigeria’s inability to protect its citizens fuels international calls — including past remarks by Donald Trump — for external intervention. Dalung urged Tinubu to deploy equal military strength to Sambisa, Niger, Zamfara, Plateau, and Kaduna, insisting that national strength must be proven within Nigeria’s borders.

  • Macron Backs Tinubu as France Pledges Full Support to Nigeria Amid Escalating Terror Threat

French President Emmanuel Macron has assured President Bola Tinubu of France’s full support as Nigeria battles a worsening wave of terrorism, mass kidnappings, and violent attacks across the North and Middle Belt. Macron revealed via his official X account that he spoke directly with Tinubu, expressing solidarity and promising to strengthen France’s security partnership with Nigeria at the president’s request.

The call comes as Nigeria declares a nationwide state of emergency after multiple mass abductions of schoolchildren and deadly assaults on churches and rural communities. Tinubu announced plans to recruit 20,000 additional police officers, deploy forest guards, and reinforce security in schools and places of worship.

The crisis coincides with international concern, including U.S. President Donald Trump’s warnings and rising criticism over Nigeria’s handling of insecurity. Analysts caution that Tinubu’s increased troop deployment may not be enough to curb the escalating violence.

  • Kaduna Secures $200 Million Chinese Deal for West Africa’s Largest Poultry Hub

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has arrived in Beijing to finalize binding agreements on a $200 million integrated poultry project that will become the largest in West Africa.

According to governor, this initiative, building on the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership announced last month, is projected to generate an staggering $450 million in annual revenue, create over 350,000 jobs ranging from direct farm roles to indirect supply chain positions and dramatically enhance food security across Nigeria. Spanning 10,000 hectares, the project will integrate large-scale poultry farming with maize and soybean cultivation for feed production, addressing chronic feed shortages and slashing costs for local farmers.

Construction on the pilot phase is slated to break ground in Kaduna next month, positioning the state as the epicenter of President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda for agricultural self-sufficiency.

Governor Sani is leading the high-stakes delegation, joined by a federal team spearheaded by the Director General of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership. Their itinerary includes closed-door sessions with top Chinese firms, notably the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), to lock in technical expertise, infrastructure support, and sustained investments.

"This is more than diplomacy, it's a blueprint for prosperity," Sani declared upon arrival at Beijing Capital International Airport, where he was greeted by Chinese officials. "On behalf of Kaduna and Nigeria, I extend my deepest gratitude to President Tinubu for championing this vision and to our Chinese partners for their unwavering commitment. We are resolute in our pursuit of investments that uplift our people, secure our tables, and propel Kaduna as Africa's agro-industrial beacon."
