• Two Air Peace Pilots Test Positive For Alcohol, Cannabis After Port Harcourt Landing Mishap

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has confirmed that two Air Peace pilots tested positive for alcohol and cannabis following a runway excursion at Port Harcourt International Airport on July 13, 2025.

A preliminary accident report, signed by NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, revealed that the Boeing 737 aircraft, operating a scheduled domestic flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt with 103 passengers on board, veered off Runway 21 after landing from an unstabilised approach.

The aircraft touched down 2,264 metres beyond the runway threshold and came to a stop 209 metres into the clearway.

Although no injuries or structural damage were recorded, the NSIB has launched a full investigation into the incident due to its serious safety implications.

According to the report, toxicological tests revealed that both the Captain and First Officer had recently consumed alcohol. Post-incident screenings returned positive results for Ethyl Glucuronide, a metabolic marker indicating recent alcohol intake.

  • Aviation Expert Slams Double Standards in K1 the Ultimate Airport Incident

President of the Aviation Safety Roundtable Initiative, Air Commodore Ademola Onitiju (Rtd), has questioned why Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde, aka K1 the Ultimate, was not treated with the same urgency and legal process as Miss Comfort Emmanson in a similar aviation security violation.

Speaking on Arise TV, Onitiju said the disparity in handling the two cases raises serious concerns about equal enforcement of aviation rules.

    > “The rules should apply to everybody, regardless of gender or status. I really cannot fathom why the same thing done to Comfort Emmanson was not done to K1,” he stated.

The aviation veteran recalled commending the swift legal action in Emmanson’s case, where she was promptly arraigned and remanded. However, in K1’s situation, he alleged glaring lapses — including the musician bypassing security checks with an oversized liquid container, far above the 100ml limit.

Onitiju criticized aviation security officials for allegedly giving K1 special treatment due to his celebrity status, allowing him into restricted tarmac areas and even granting him direct access to the pilot in command — a move he described as a serious security breach.

He insisted that proper protocol should have seen K1 immediately removed from the tarmac, restrained if necessary, as his presence posed a significant threat to civil aviation safety.

  • Drama at Abuja Airport: ValueJet Pilot Speaks Out on KWAM 1 Incident

ValueJet pilot Captain Oluranti Ogoyi has given a detailed account of a heated encounter with legendary Fuji star King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) at the Abuja airport, an incident that sparked safety concerns and led to disciplinary actions.

Reports claimed KWAM 1 had a close brush with one of ValueJet’s aircraft, prompting the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to suspend Capt. Ogoyi and her co-pilot, Flight Officer Ivan Oloba, for alleged breaches of aviation safety protocols — though the exact violations remain unclear. Separately, KWAM 1 received a six-month flight ban within Nigeria.

According to Capt. Ogoyi, the incident began when KWAM 1 approached the aircraft carrying a gold flask. Ground staff, suspecting it contained alcohol, requested to inspect it — a standard safety measure. The singer allegedly refused, saying, “Do you know who I am? You have no right to tell me to open my flask.”

She claims the situation escalated when KWAM 1 poured the flask’s contents on her, security personnel, and nearby passengers. Airport security intervened, and the Head of Security advised that he be barred from boarding. Ogoyi agreed, citing passenger safety as her priority.

After the delay and removal of the musician from the boarding area, Ogoyi resumed the flight to Lagos, departing at 8:50 a.m..
