  • Amnesty International Exposes Unlawful Killings, Media Suppression, EndSARS Crackdown, And Other Human Rights Violations Under Late Buhari’s Administration

Amnesty International has documented widespread human rights abuses during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who governed Nigeria from 2015 to 2023. The report alleges unlawful killings by security forces, extrajudicial executions of pro-Biafra activists, violent crackdowns on #EndSARS protesters, attacks on journalists, and abuses against women affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. According to the rights group, systemic failures in accountability and justice under Buhari’s leadership enabled these violations, leaving thousands dead and undermining press freedom and civil liberties nationwide.

  • DoJ Document Links Pro-Biafra Groups to U.S. ‘Christian Genocide’ Campaign.

Documents from the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) show that a coalition of pro-Biafra groups is behind the campaign alleging a “Christian genocide in Nigeria,” a narrative that helped prompt former U.S. President Donald Trump to label Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern.

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz recently accused the Nigerian government of enabling a “massacre” of Christians, saying in a video on X: “There is no country on earth where Christians are more persecuted than Nigeria.” He claimed Boko Haram & extremist groups have killed over 50,000 Christians since 2009 & destroyed more than 20,000 churches & schools.

DoJ filings under the U.S. Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) link the campaign to the United States of Biafra, which includes the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE).

The filings show that BRGIE’s U.S. representative, Moran Global Strategies, led by former Congressman Jim Moran, has established ties with Cruz’s office.

Documents reviewed by The Guardian reveal that BRGIE members signed a declaration in Lahti, Finland, on December 2, 2024, claiming Nigeria is carrying out a “genocidal onslaught” against Biafrans and Christians. Signatories include diaspora figure Simon Ekpa—now jailed in Finland for torrorism-related offences—Dr Ngozi Orabueze, and Diane Emeh.

While the movement pushes Biafra’s secession, its messaging is tailored to American conservative audiences, arguing that supporting Biafra would counter China’s influence and protect Christians “under siege.” The filings outline organised activities such as fundraising, political statements and diaspora mobilisation.

The documents also mention an internal vote held between February and November 2024, after which the group declared the “Restored Independence of the United States of Biafra,” claiming authority over “40 states.”

Security analysts warn that framing separatist advocacy as evidence of genocide could inflame ethnic tensions and distort international perceptions.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Bolaji Akinyemi has also cautioned that such claims may harm Nigeria’s global reputation.

  • Every Nigerian Should Learn Combat Skills For Self-Defence – CDS Musa

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has urged citizens to acquire basic combat and survival skills such as Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, swimming, and driving, describing them as essential for self-protection in today’s dangerous world.

Speaking on Politics Today, Musa said the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) should train graduates in unarmed combat for daily survival, stressing that security is everyone’s responsibility.

He also revealed that terrorists are increasingly funding their operations with gold, making financial tracking complex due to international networks. Musa further cited bad roads, poor communication, and IED threats as key obstacles slowing troops’ response to banditry and terrorism.

On the Southeast, he noted that relative calm has returned since the arrest of pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa in Finland in November 2024.

  • IPOB Urges South-East Governors to Declare May 30 as Public Holiday to Honor Biafran Heroes

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have called on governors in Nigeria’s South-East region to officially recognize May 30 as a public holiday to commemorate Biafra Day. This date is annually observed by pro-Biafra activists to honor those who lost their lives during the Nigerian Civil War.

In a statement reported by Daily Post Nigeria, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, urged South-East leaders to emulate their South-West counterparts, who successfully advocated for the recognition of June 12 as Democracy Day in honor of MKO Abiola.

“IPOB seizes this moment of reflection to urge the Governors in Biafra Land, especially the South East and South South Governors, to establish May 30th as a public holiday to commemorate the fallen heroes of Biafra moving forward,” Powerful stated.

He emphasized that the request to commemorate Biafran heroes and heroines with a public holiday is a fair one, highlighting the importance of honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the Biafran cause.

Until such recognition is granted, IPOB has designated May 30th each year as Biafra Heroes Day, to be commemorated by Biafrans both locally and internationally.
