In a recent announcement, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this declaration on behalf of the government, extending congratulations to the Muslim Ummah both within Nigeria and in the diaspora. He emphasized the significance of the Eid-ul-Adha festival and encouraged all Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts in restoring the nation’s glory.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most important Islamic holidays, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The festival is marked by special prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.
The declaration of these public holidays provides an opportunity for Muslims across the country to observe the festival’s rites and for all Nigerians to engage in communal harmony and reflection.
