• I am under a lot of pressure to join ADC despite APC being my child— Pastor Tunde Bakare.

Founder of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, says he is under intense pressure from prominent politicians to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition but has firmly declined the offer.

Speaking on Saturday during the inaugural edition of the Citadel School of Governance Dialogue Series in Lagos, Bakare confirmed that several influential figures, including a former governor and minister from the South-West, have urged him to align with the ADC.

“There has been a lot of pressure on me from who is who to join ADC. They come to my home. Even while I was abroad, the hierarchy of that party kept calling, saying they needed my voice,” he said.

The cleric added that a younger political associate who had benefitted from key roles in the All Progressives Congress (APC) also tried to persuade him to lend his influence to the opposition party.

“I am not going to take part in ADC. The last time I knew about ADC was about a plane that cr+shed. I wish them well because we need a robust opposition,” Bakare said. “But you don’t birth a child called APC and then try to kill it yourself. We are not going to have another Awolowo-Akintola crisis in the South-West.”

Bakare also described President Bola Tinubu’s emergence as divinely ordained, saying his leadership could not have been achieved without God’s backing.

“If God wants to remove ‘emilokan,’ He knows how to do it. You can’t get the kind of thing Tinubu has brought without God’s support,” he noted.

Bakare, who contested for the APC presidential ticket in 2023 alongside Tinubu, was the running mate to Muhammadu Buhari in the 2011 presidential election under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) — one of the legacy parties that merged to form the APC in 2013.

  • Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he is ready to drop his 2027 presidential ambition if a younger, vibrant and widely accepted candidate emerges under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Atiku, a key member of the opposition coalition, made this known in an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday. He stressed that his interest in the race is not driven by personal ambition but by the need to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative.

“My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” Atiku said.

He dismissed suggestions that he is desperate for the presidency, saying his concern is to “rescue Nigeria from those who have held it hostage.”

Atiku also urged young Nigerians to take politics seriously, assuring that he would give his full backing if a younger candidate is chosen to represent the coalition.

  • GRV Defends Move to ADC, Says Peter Obi Was Fully Aware of His Defection

Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), has cleared the air on criticisms surrounding his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics (Sept 7, 2025), GRV insisted that Peter Obi, LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, was fully informed and aligned before he made the switch.

“Certainly, His Excellency was aware. A representative of his was even at the declaration yesterday. We are aligned. There’s no step that’s being taken that he’s not aware of,” GRV stated.

He stressed that his decision was in line with a broader coalition of opposition parties working to unseat the APC in the 2027 elections.

However, his move sparked backlash from the LP leadership, which described it as “hasty and ill-advised.”
The party’s interim spokesman, Tony Akeni, argued that Rhodes-Vivour “jumped the gun” and should have followed Obi’s style of collaboration without abandoning LP.

GRV, who officially declared his defection at Alimosho LGA, Lagos, maintained that only a united opposition coalition can challenge the APC’s dominance in 2027.

  • Viral Moment: Peter Obi & El-Rufai’s Warm Embrace Sparks Political Buzz

Former governors Peter Obi of Anambra State and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State set social media abuzz after a video of them warmly embracing went viral.

The clip, shared on the official Peter Obi Grassroots Mobilization X handle on Saturday, September 6, 2025, captured the moment at an event in Owerri, Imo State. Obi walked up to El-Rufai, extended a handshake, and the two exchanged a brief hug — a gesture that quickly ignited reactions across the country.

    Online reactions have been mixed:
Some Nigerians applauded the display of cordiality between the two opposition figures.
Others speculated about the political undertones of their alliance, questioning whether it signals a deeper strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.

Screenshots of these comments continue to circulate, reflecting curiosity, excitement, and skepticism about what the handshake and hug could mean for Nigeria’s political landscape.

  • SDP’s Adewole Adebayo: “Tinubu Must Not Remain in Power Beyond 2027”

Former Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has cautioned that it would be a grave mistake for Nigeria if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains in office beyond 2027.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Post on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Adebayo emphasized that leadership renewal is critical for Nigeria’s progress.

    > “President Tinubu is not supposed to be there. And it would be a mistake for the country, even for him personally, and for any other person, to keep him beyond 2027,” Adebayo declared.

He argued that fresh leadership and new ideas are needed to tackle Nigeria’s challenges and restore effective governance. According to him, opposition coalitions must focus not just on removing Tinubu but on providing credible solutions.

Adebayo further noted that Nigeria’s political culture often encourages leaders to cling to power without accountability, stressing that citizens should prioritize ethics, principles, and integrity over party loyalty.

He insisted that the future of Nigeria depends on electing leaders capable of ethical and transformative governance, not recycling old systems of power.

  • 2027: No Vacancy in Aso Rock – Minister of State for Education Backs Tinubu’s Re-Election

The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmed, has declared that there will be “no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027”, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is already laying an irreversible foundation for Nigeria’s growth and development.

Speaking in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), the minister praised Tinubu’s reforms, saying he was addressing the root causes of Nigeria’s setbacks rather than offering temporary fixes.

“President Tinubu is creating a permanent foundation for our country, and our children and grandchildren will thank him in the future. That is why there is no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027,” she said.

On his part, the Director-General of the TSG, Umar Tanko Yakasai, dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition, describing it as “a pack of dominoes” made up of politicians with poor governance track records.

He added that Nigerians have seen Tinubu’s achievements and will rally around him in 2027, while opposition figures attempting to rewrite history would be exposed.

  • Coalition Will Collapse by September Sole ADC Reps Member Drops Fresh Hint.

The sole House of Representatives member on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Leke Abejide, has predicted that the opposition coalition formed around the party will collapse by September.

Abejide, who represents Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State, said the coalition’s failure to secure a single seat in the August 16 by-elections signalled the beginning of its end.

“The coalition collapsed last Saturday; across the country, they could not even win one seat. That was the beginning of the end. By early next month, the coalition will collapse completely,” Abejide said while appearing on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme on Friday.

He argued that the group’s attempt to “hijack” the ADC would not succeed, stressing that he remained the “landlord” of the party.

“I didn’t establish the party, but I am the one who kept it alive. I have never defected to a big party. I used the ADC to contest all my elections and also brought others into both the National Assembly and state assembly,” he added.

The lawmaker maintained that key coalition leaders had no roots in the ADC. According to him, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra governor Peter Obi were never members of the party. He noted that while former Senate President David Mark and former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola have joined the ADC, they held no leadership roles.

In July, the coalition had adopted the ADC as its political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, naming Mark as interim chairman and Aregbesola as national secretary.

Other prominent members include former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Dino Melaye, former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalong, former Benue governor Gabriel Suswam, and publisher Dele Momodu.

  • 2027 Polls: APC Chieftain Warns Obi-Atiku Alliance Could Threaten Party’s Chances

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Dominic Alancha, has cautioned that a possible alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra Governor Peter Obi could significantly weaken the ruling party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels TV, Alancha said a joint Obi-Atiku ticket could mobilize over 13 million votes, adding that the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) already has strong political heavyweights, including David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rauf Aregbesola.

He also advised President Bola Tinubu to drop the Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2027, warning it could erode national appeal and hand the opposition an easy campaign advantage.

Alancha further noted growing northern support for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s possible comeback bid, calling it a “serious political undercurrent” that the APC cannot ignore.

  • Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar alleges that Senator Aminu Tambuwal’s detention by the EFCC was orchestrated under President Tinubu’s orders to weaken the opposition, warning against a slide into one-party rule.

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of detaining former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, on the direct orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement posted on X, Atiku claimed the sole reason for Tambuwal’s detention was his membership in the opposition coalition. He described it as part of a wider strategy by the Tinubu administration to harass, intimidate, and cripple opposition forces.

Atiku alleged that the current government has turned the fight against corruption into a political weapon aimed at coercing opposition leaders into joining the ruling party. While stressing the importance of a genuine anti-corruption campaign that enjoys national support, he condemned its weaponization for political gain — calling for strong resistance from civil society and the international community.

“It is as though anyone associated with the opposition is targeted with phantom corruption allegations,” Atiku wrote, adding, “Once coerced into Tinubu’s political fold, their so-called ‘sins’ are instantly forgiven.”

He reaffirmed that opposition members would not yield to what he called “anti-democratic machinations” designed to force Nigeria into a one-party state.

  • ADC knocks PDP over moves to woo Obi, claims party has lost influence.

Arewa Forum backs Jonathan’s return, dismisses Obi’s one-term pledge
    • PDP chieftain welcomes Jonathan, Atiku, Obi, seeks open presidential primary

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over reported efforts to woo Peter Obi, describing the development as a clear sign of the party’s political decline.

National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, said it was “laughable” that the PDP, once dominant in Nigerian politics, was now “begging for candidates all over the place,” a situation he claimed reflected the former ruling party’s loss of relevance.

“If the PDP is truly wooing Peter Obi, that tells you how low the party has degenerated,” Abdullahi said.

“This is the same party that many Nigerians were once desperate to get its ticket. Now they are begging for candidates. Why would we be threatened by that?”

Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, is also a key member of the ADC-led opposition coalition. His name has resurfaced in political circles following remarks by prominent PDP figures urging him to return to the party.

Among those making the overtures are former Information Minister, Prof Jerry Gana, and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who recently described Obi as the de facto leader of the opposition.

But Abdullahi dismissed the outreach, stating that Obi remains a part of the coalition and is fully aware of what he called the PDP’s “destructive internal dynamics.”

  • Nigeria May Not Survive If APC Retains Power in 2027 — Former Kaduna Gov, El-Rufai.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has warned that Nigeria’s very existence could be at stake if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secures another term in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Saturday, August 2, during a grassroots mobilisation rally in Sokoto organised by the opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), El-Rufai made a bold declaration against the APC and pledged to actively campaign for its removal from power.

“I’m not in politics to gain anything for myself. I’m here to serve,” he stated. “When the government fails to serve the people, I see it as my duty, as a senior citizen, to speak out and act to change the situation.” El-Rufai, once a prominent figure in the APC, described the current administration as “incompetent” and warned that allowing it to continue beyond 2027 could lead to the complete coll@pse of Nigeria’s social fabric.

“We’re in Sokoto to begin mobilising Nigerians against the APC, both at the state and federal levels,” he said. “If this party continues in power beyond 2027, what remains of Nigeria’s social capital may be destr%yed.

We may not even have a country. This is a f+ght for survival.” El-Rufai left the APC in March 2025 after the Senate declined to confirm his ministerial appointment, allegedly over security concerns.

He briefly joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but was expelled and handed a 30-year ban over accusations including f%rgery of membership documents.

  • 2027: ADC Will Field Candidate to Unseat Tinubu – Dino Melaye

Abuja, August 1, 2025 – Former Kogi senator Dino Melaye says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is poised to field a strong presidential candidate to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels TV's Politics Today, Melaye described the ADC as a "national altar call" for Nigerians driven by conscience and a desire for change. He stressed that the party is focused on stabilizing its structure and holding a transparent convention before backing any specific candidate.

“ADC is a national altar call. Not everyone in the party is a saint, but everyone here is concerned about Nigeria,” Melaye said.

His remarks come after a high-profile opposition coalition meeting on July 2 at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where the ADC was adopted as a unifying platform to challenge the ruling APC.

At the meeting, ADC founder Ralph Nwosu presented membership cards to former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola, named interim national chairman and secretary, respectively.

He stressed that the party is focused on stabilizing its structure and holding a transparent convention before backing any specific candidate. “ADC is a national altar call. The former Senate President disclosed this while addressing some ADC members in Abuja.

According to Mark: “There will be zero tolerance for anti-party and any form of indiscipline; you are either in ADC or not in ADC.

“No mid-way in this business and those not with us, we will not carry them along.

“Those who are not totally committed will not be carried along.

“We shall reverse our grassroot leadership structures to reflect modern realities from the polling units upwards to the national level. Every organ reenergised.

“We will open the gates for the next generations, our policies, nominations and roles will reflect such.”

  • Former governor, El-Rufai banned for 30 years.

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been expelled from the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

Announcing his expulsion from the party, SDP also imposed a 30-year ban on El-Rufai.

SDP’s National Working Committee, NWC, said the action was in line with the party’s constitution, ideology, manifesto, principles, and practices, as well as in consonance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act pertaining to the exclusive right of a political party to determine its membership.

A statement by the party’s spokesman, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, warned members against associating with El-Rufai and those who don’t represent its interest.

Parts of the statement read: “El-Rufai is hereby banished and banned from applying for membership, identifying with the name, insignia, logo, symbol, mark, or any activities, organs, agencies, and institutions of the SDP or donating to, supporting, contributing to, or participating in any affairs of the SDP for a period of 30 years effective from today.”

It would be recalled that El-Rufai joined the SDP after quiting the All Progressives Congress, APC.

However, El-Rufai is also a key member of the opposition coalition which recently adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as its platform ahead of the 2027 election.

  • Atiku Abubakar Resigns from PDP, Cites Departure from Party Ideals.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a platform he helped found in 1998. In a letter dated July 14 and addressed to the party chairman in his Jada 1 Ward, Adamawa State, Atiku said his decision takes immediate effect.

“I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for,” he wrote. “It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognizing the irreconcilable differences that have emerged.”

Atiku, who served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007, thanked the PDP for offering him the platform to serve and to contest the presidency in 2019 and 2023. He also ran for president under the Action Congress in 2007 and has switched political parties several times during his career.

His exit marks another chapter in his long quest for the presidency, having contested six times under the SDP, PDP, AC, and APC.

Though he returned to the PDP in 2017, Atiku grew increasingly frustrated with the party’s internal crises, poor post-election strategies, and unresolved zoning disputes following its 2023 loss to the APC. Insiders say Atiku had become disillusioned with the leadership’s inability to reposition the PDP as a credible opposition.

In 2024, he began building alliances across party lines, leading to the formation of a new opposition coalition. While he hasn’t officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he is seen as the coalition’s central figure, pushing for electoral reforms and party democracy. The PDP has yet to respond officially, but senior officials admit the resignation is a blow and could trigger further defections ahead of 2027.

At 78, Atiku remains one of Nigeria’s most enduring political figures, known for his influence, wealth, and persistent ambition to lead the nation.

  • You're not bigger than any other Nigerian - Presidency tackles EL-RUFAI

Special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has stated that the erstwhile governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, cannot decide who Nigerians will cast their votes for.
Nigeria Is Not A Democracy, It Nice To Hear El-Rufai Bleat - Farotimi

He argued that there are better politicians than El-Rufai who command larger votes and better influence and are key to the country’s transformation.

Naija News reports that El-Rufai recently stated that the opposition coalition will send President Bola Tinubu back to Lagos in the 2027 elections.

However, speaking during an interview on Mic on a Podcast published on Saturday, Dare asserted that El-Rufai holds no greater electoral value than any other Nigerian.

He insisted that Tinubu’s reforms would secure him a second term.

Dare said, “Is El-Rufai 110 million Nigerians who will vote? How many voters does el-Rufai command? Even if he commands them, can he decide who they will cast their vote for?

”I have respect for him, but this idea to equate El-Rufai with Nigeria and millions of votes is an overreach.

“El-Rufai is not bigger than any other Nigerian because everybody has a stake in the country.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be re-elected in 2027, primarily because of the policies and reforms he put in place.”

Dare said experts have predicted that Nigerians will feel the impact of Tinubu’s reforms between four and six years.

“When you look at the alignment of policies, touching on key sectors of the economy, the solid minerals, for instance, lithium and copper… the president has given focus to that sector.

“In the oil sector, the story before now is different from what it is now; including the educational sector, agriculture, and health sectors. As we speak, 5,000 primary health centres are being reinvigorated. Already, 1,000 are fully operational.

“Look at the sheer number of policies and initiatives that this administration has onboarded in just two years, you will see a leadership adept and conversant with development.

But more critically, (Tinubu) is a president who understands that this giant (Nigeria) has been punching below its belt.”

  • Rotimi Amaechi endorsed for 2027 presidency.

As preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify, oil and gas-producing communities in the Niger Delta have declared their support for former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, urging the opposition coalition to adopt him as its presidential candidate.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Friday, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Community Development Coalition (CDC), Joseph Ambakaderimo, emphasized Amaechi’s strong political track record and broad national appeal, describing him as the most qualified candidate to lead the opposition.

“Amaechi has consistently demonstrated bold leadership and a deep understanding of governance,” Ambakaderimo said.

“From his tenure as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly to his years as Governor and Minister, his performance has been exceptional.”

According to Vanguard, Ambakaderimo stated that Amaechi’s achievements, particularly in the transportation sector, are well recognized across Nigeria.

He highlighted the revitalization of the railway system under Amaechi’s watch, which he said has improved mobility and economic activity nationwide.

He noted that Amaechi enjoys strong popularity in the North due to the delivery of key infrastructure projects during his time as Minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“He’s equally well received in the South-East and South-West, making him a unifying figure,” he added.

On opposition politics, Ambakaderimo argued that Amaechi stands a better chance than other aspirants like Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi in securing the coalition’s ticket, especially given the sentiment that power should remain in the South.

“Amaechi came second to Bola Tinubu in the APC primaries in 2022, showing his political strength.

He remains the best bet for the opposition if they are serious about unseating the ruling party in 2027,” he said.

Ambakaderimo concluded by reaffirming the Niger Delta communities’ belief in Amaechi’s capacity to lead Nigeria forward.

  • Coalition: Labour Party Moves to Expel Peter Obi – Arabambi.

The Labour Party has announced plans to expel its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his continued association with a political coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

During an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi stated that Obi’s engagement with the opposition coalition while still identifying as a party member was unconstitutional. “We are convening a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting where he [Obi] will be expelled,” Arabambi declared.

“It is unconstitutional to belong to two political groups at once. They have lured him away, and there he will remain.” Arabambi emphasized that the NEC would recommend Obi’s expulsion, which would then be ratified at the party’s national convention, in line with its constitution.

He added that Obi can no longer claim Labour Party membership while actively collaborating with what he referred to as the “yahoo yahoo” coalition. In a strong rebuke, Arabambi dismissed the widespread belief that Obi revitalized the Labour Party.

“Let’s correct this notion—Peter Obi did not make Labour Party. It was Labour Party that made Peter Obi. The support he got in 2023 stemmed from the party’s integrity and Nigerians’ frustration, not solely from his influence,” he said.

Arabambi further accused Obi of fueling internal crises within the party and exhibiting dictatorial tendencies. “If he fights party members just to impose his will, then he’s not fit to lead,” he said.

His comments come on the heels of a 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Abure-led faction, demanding Obi’s resignation over what it described as a “bromance” with the opposition alliance. In a July 3 statement, Labour Party spokesperson Obiora Ifoh declared, “The Labour Party is not part of the coalition. Any member involved must resign within 48 hours.

We will not entertain dual loyalty or deceptive affiliations.” According to the party, Obi’s continued involvement in the coalition contradicts its principles and will not be tolerated.
