  • Tiger Base Torture Atrocities Exposed: Nigerian Authorities’ Silence Fuels Public Anger — Okechukwu Nwanguma

In a powerful exposé, Okechukwu Nwanguma details years of torture, extortion, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings carried out by Imo State’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, known as Tiger Base. Despite petitions, eyewitness testimonies, and mounting evidence, Nigerian authorities have maintained what he describes as “criminal silence.”
Cases highlighted include the extortion-driven arrest of Izuchukwu Madueke, the month-long secret detention of Christian Kelechi, the torture and death of Japheth Njoku followed by a cover-up, and the enforced disappearance of Johnbosco Onuocha. Nwanguma warns that the unchecked brutality mirrors the patterns that triggered the 2020 EndSARS revolt.
He calls for immediate suspension and prosecution of implicated officers, independent investigations, and full enforcement of anti-torture laws, stressing that continued government inaction risks igniting another nationwide public uprising.

  • JAPA: If you’re earning a good salary in Nigeria, it’s better to stay than move the U.K for a job you’ll despise — DJ DSF

On a recent episode of Jay On Air Podcast, media personality Ms DSF shed light on the realities of working abroad, cautioning that not all opportunities overseas are as lucrative as they appear.

“People think you’re abroad and you’re making pounds. They could be abroad doing a cleaner job, making however much per hour. You probably have better opportunities here in Nigeria,” she said, stressing that a good salary at home may outweigh taking a job abroad that one dislikes.

Ms DSF highlighted the high cost of living in the UK, noting, “Do you know how much rent is in the UK? Do you know how much public transport is there? Before you even make your salary, let’s say you’re doing cleaner work or driving a taxi.”

Sharing a personal example, she recounted her father’s experience: “When my dad first went, he was a taxi driver. Imagine what he was making while trying to take care of his whole family me, my brother, all my siblings, my mum. He was working 9 to 5, then 5 to 9… taxi driver, security, accountant just to make a little money.”

Ms DSF concluded by acknowledging that earning abroad can be appealing but comes with challenges: “I get it, like if you make it in the UK it’s great because pounds are stronger and it’s nice to make pounds, but it’s not like that you really have to hustle to build your way up.”

  • Germany Approves Voluntary Military Service for 18-Year-Olds Amid Rising Security Concerns

Germany’s parliament, the Bundestag, has voted to introduce voluntary military service, marking a major shift in the country’s defense policy following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The move is part of Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s plan to build Europe’s strongest conventional army.

Starting January 2026, all 18-year-olds will receive a mandatory questionnaire asking if they are interested in joining the armed forces. The form will be compulsory for men and voluntary for women. From July 2027, all 18-year-old men will undergo medical examinations to assess their fitness for possible military service.

The decision has sparked widespread opposition among students, with strikes planned in as many as 90 cities. Protesters argue that compulsory training promotes drill and obedience, offering little benefit while disrupting young people’s lives.

Currently, Germany’s armed forces, the Bundeswehr, have around 182,000 personnel, with plans to increase the number to 260,000 by the early 2030s, supplemented by 200,000 reservists. The government says that while service is voluntary, compulsory measures could be considered if too few volunteers come forward or if security thr+ats escalate.

    By: Zagazola Makama

Nigerian Army troops of Joint Task Force Sector One, Operation Udo Ka (OPUK), in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch, have rescued 14 kidnapped victims during a coordinated operation at Orokam Forest, a border area linking Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State and Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted on Friday at about 1:30 p.m., following credible intelligence from locals indicating the presence of a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the forest.

The source said troops deployed in Udenu LGA swiftly mobilised to the location alongside vigilante personnel of the Neighbourhood Watch.

“While approaching the hideout, the criminals opened fire on the troops. The joint team responded with a high volume of fire, forcing the kidnappers to flee in disarray and abandon the kidnapped victims,” the source said.

The sources said 14 abducted persons, who were returning from a burial ceremony over the weekend before being kidnapped, were rescued unhurt.

  • Ifeanyi Ejiofor Slams Boris Johnson’s Comments on Nigeria as ‘Imperial Mindset’

Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor has strongly criticised former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson over remarks he made at an economic summit in Owerri, Imo State. Johnson had joked about trade relations, security concerns, and political mobility between Nigeria and the UK, comments Ejiofor described as disrespectful and rooted in “imperial mindset.” He argued that Johnson’s statements echoed colonial-era attitudes and ignored the historical imbalance in relations between both countries. Ejiofor also faulted African elites for applauding the remarks, calling it a troubling display of complicity. He urged Nigeria to demand more nuance from visiting leaders, reframe narratives around trade, and prioritise partnerships based on technology transfer, capacity building, and equitable terms.

  • Pastor and Wife End 11-Year Marriage in the UK: Japa Strain Sparks Concern Over Broken Homes

A pastor and his wife have ended their 11-year marriage, despite having three children and spending only three years in the UK. The story reflects a growing trend where many Nigerian couples face severe marital strain after relocating abroad. The “japa” wave is increasingly linked to rising divorce rates, with even long-term relationships — including a couple who courted for four years — collapsing within months due to new pressures and “irreconcilable differences.” The incident has sparked deeper questions about why marriages that survive in Nigeria suddenly fail shortly after relocation.

The family of Nigerian lawyer Moses Oddiri has raised alarm over his disappearance nearly a month after he was taken into custody by the DSS on November 10, reportedly at the request of the EFCC. Relatives say they have received no official update on his location or wellbeing, despite reports that he was secretly transferred from Lagos to Abuja.
