• We’re number one nuclear power in the world – Trump boasts amid tension in Nigeria.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday boasted that the United States has the best military equipment in the world.

Trump, who spoke at the American Business Forum, said he rebuilt the American military with the best missiles, rockets and other dangerous weapons.

According to Trump, the United States is the number one nuclear power followed by Russia and China.

He said, “I rebuilt the military, we have the best military in the world, we make the best equipment, the best missiles, rockets and the best everything.

“We’re the number one nuclear power, which I hate to admit because it’s so horrible. Russia is second. China is a distant third, but they will catch us within four or five years… And we’re maybe working on a plan to denuclearize the three of us.”

His remark is coming amid fear of possible US military action in Nigeria following alleged Christian genocide in the most populous black nation.

Trump, who designated Nigeria as Country of Particular Concerns on Friday, had also threatened that the US military may strike in Nigeria to take out the perpetrators of alleged Christian persecution if the Nigerian government fails to stop the terrorists.

  • "Is the sudden interest in Christian attacks because Nigeria now has one of the world’s largest oil refineries?" — Pastor Wale Adefarasin questions Trump and others.

During a sermon at his church, Pastor Adefarasin raised concerns over what he described as the sudden international focus on the plight of Christians in Nigeria, emphasizing that insecurity in the country is neither new nor confined to a single region.

Recalling decades of violence, he highlighted the long history of killings in Southern Kaduna and the Plateau. He also referenced past international incidents, such as the defacing of an image of the Prophet Muhammad in France, which he said subsequently led to attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

“It’s nothing new. It doesn’t amount to genocide,” he said, noting that Western narratives often portray Nigerian Christians as being in constant mortal danger.”

PastorWale questioned the motivations behind global attention, suggesting that Nigeria’s growing economic and strategic significance could play a role.

“Is it because we now have one of the largest refineries in the world, or because of the 21st-century minerals in our land used for nuclear power and electric vehicles? Are these the reasons our friends are threatening to invade our country to defend Nigerian Christians?” he asked.

He concluded by urging caution and careful analysis of international interventions, stressing that insecurity affects all Nigerians regardless of faith. “Selam,” he added.

  • Trump Orders U.S. to Resume Nuclear Testing Amid China, Russia Tensions

U.S. President Donald Trump has directed the Pentagon to restart nuclear weapons testing, citing the need to match China and Russia’s programs. His announcement came shortly before a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.

Trump said the move was necessary because other global powers are advancing their nuclear capabilities, though he did not clarify whether the U.S. will test nuclear warheads — last conducted in 1992 — or delivery systems. The U.S. remains a signatory to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, which prohibits atomic explosions.

He claimed the U.S. holds the largest nuclear arsenal and praised modernization efforts under his administration. China urged Washington to uphold its treaty commitments and support global disarmament.

The decision follows recent Russian weapons tests, including a nuclear-capable underwater drone. Trump said the U.S. is open to discussing denuclearization with Russia and China but insisted renewed testing is “appropriate” given current global developments.

  • Trump directs nuclear weapons testing to resume for first time in over 30 years.

President Donald Trump called on US military leaders to resume testing US nuclear weapons in order to keep pace with other countries such as Russia and China.

"Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis," he wrote on social media just before meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.

The US has more nuclear weapons than any other country, Trump said, with Russia second and China a "distant third". It has not conducted nuclear weapons testing since 1992.

It comes just days after Trump denounced Russia for testing a nuclear-powered missile, which reportedly has an unlimited range.

Trump's post on Wednesday night acknowledges the "tremendous destructive power" of nuclear weapons, but said he had "no choice" but to update and renovate the US arsenal during his first term in office.

He also said that China's nuclear programme "will be even within 5 years".

Trump's post did not include details of how the tests would occur, but wrote the "process will begin immediately".

It marks an apparent reversal of a long-standing US policy. The last US nuclear weapons test was in 1992, before former Republican President George HW Bush issued a moratorium as the Cold War ended.

  • ABU Debunks Viral Claim Linking It to Nuclear Weapons Development.

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has dismissed a viral social media video alleging that the institution was secretly involved in developing nuclear weapons for Nigeria.

In a statement by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Malam Auwalu Umar, ABU described the AI-generated video as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to misinform the public about Nigeria’s peaceful nuclear energy program.

The video had claimed that Nigerian scientists in the 1980s enriched weapons grade uranium in Kaduna, with ABU researchers allegedly obtaining centrifuge equipment from Pakistan’s AQ Khan network.

Umar, however, debunked these allegations as baseless and unsubstantiated, clarifying that during the 1980s, most scientists at ABU’s Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT) were still undergoing training abroad and could not have been involved in any uranium enrichment activity.

He emphasized that all of Nigeria’s nuclear activities have been transparent and strictly for peaceful purposes, in line with the country’s commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Pelindaba Treaty, which ban nuclear weapons development.

According to Umar, the Centre for Energy Research and Training, founded in 1976, operates in partnership with the IAEA and other international collaborators from the U.S., Russia, and China and has never engaged in any secret weapons project.

“ABU has consistently focused on the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology to promote national development,” he stated, adding that the university’s founder, Sir Ahmadu Bello, had shown early interest in peaceful atomic research after visiting the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the U.S. in 1960.

He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing science and technology for the benefit of humanity and to upholding Nigeria’s international obligations on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

  • Tinubu Reaffirms Nigeria’s Commitment to Global elimination of Nuclear weapons.

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the global elimination of nuclear weapons, stressing that the world must act decisively to dismantle them.

Represented by Foreign Affairs Minister, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, at the UN high-level meeting marking the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear We+pons in New York, Tinubu described nuclear weapons as a grave threat to peace, security, and human survival.

“We need to see action toward the dismantling of these weapons,” he said, adding that their elimination remains the only absolute guarantee against their use or threat of use.

He criticised the lack of political will by Nuclear-Weapon States, urging them to fully implement agreed disarmament measures under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

He also praised countries that have ratified the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) and called on others to do the same, noting Nigeria was among the first signatories.

Tinubu further urged nuclear powers to halt testing, development, and modernisation of their arsenals, while highlighting Africa’s Pelindaba Treaty, which declared the continent a nuclear-weapons-free zone. He encouraged other regions to follow suit.

According to him, the benefits of disarmament are enormous and cannot be underestimated. “While there are no easy solutions, we must remain resolutely focused on achieving a world free of nuclear weapons and be better assured of our survival as human race,” he said.

  • Court orders two DNA tests on late Mohbad's son.

The Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has directed that two Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) tests be carried out on Liam Aloba, the son of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga issued the order on Tuesday while ruling on an application filed by the singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, who sought a paternity test.

The late Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was listed as the respondent in the application brought under the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012 and the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.

The application requested that samples be taken from the remains of the deceased at the Military Hospital in Yaba for use in conducting the tests, either within Lagos or in another recognised facility outside the state.

It further sought approval for a separate test to be conducted abroad at the applicant’s expense.

In court filings, Aloba argued that uncertainty about Liam’s paternity made it necessary to conclusively settle the matter, stressing its importance for maintenance obligations and the child’s welfare.

At the hearing, Aloba was represented by Augustine Adegbemi from the chambers of Dr Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co., while Kabir Akingbolu appeared for the respondent. The application was moved without opposition, leading the magistrate to grant the request.

The court directed that the tests be conducted in accredited hospitals in Nigeria and abroad, with both parties or their representatives present during sample collection.

The matter was adjourned to November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.

  • When It’s Everyone Else, Sanctions Come Fast — But Never Israel

From China to Iran, Venezuela to Turkey, Donald Trump’s presidency was marked by an aggressive use of sanctions and tariffs. He didn’t hesitate to punish countries for policies the U.S. deemed unacceptable — whether over trade practices, nuclear programs, or human rights violations.

Yet, when it came to Israel — even during periods when global outrage mounted over civilian deaths in Gaza, including children — there was silence. No sanctions. No punitive tariffs. No public threats of economic isolation.

The contrast raises a difficult question: Are human rights a principle applied equally, or a tool deployed selectively?

If Washington’s message is that killing innocents is unacceptable, then consistency matters — regardless of who is responsible. Anything less risks turning morality into a geopolitical bargaining chip.

  • Trump Distances Himself From Russia-Ukraine War, Blames Biden

U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is “Biden’s war,” not his, as he seeks to distance his administration from the costly and deadly conflict.

In a Friday post on Truth Social, Trump said he is focused solely on trying to end the war, calling it “unnecessary” and decrying the death toll. He claimed Russia lost 112,500 soldiers this year alone, with nearly 20,000 killed in July. Ukraine, he said, lost approximately 8,000 troops since January 1, not including the missing.

“This is a war that should have never happened — This is Biden’s War, not TRUMP’s,” he wrote, adding, “I’m just here to see if I can stop it!”

The remarks follow deadly missile strikes on Kyiv and other cities that left at least 31 civilians dead and 159 injured, intensifying regional tensions.

In a separate escalation, Trump ordered two U.S. nuclear submarines to be repositioned in response to provocative remarks from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who mocked Trump’s criticism of Russia and defended Moscow’s military actions.

Trump described Medvedev’s statements as “highly provocative” and warned of the dangers of inflammatory rhetoric, stating, “Words can lead to unintended consequences.”

  • Trump Deploys Nuclear Submarines Amid Rising Tensions With Russia

August 1, 2025 – U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines amid an intensifying war of words with Russian official Dmitry Medvedev, escalating tensions over the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Trump made the announcement via Truth Social, saying the move was a response to Medvedev’s “provocative statements” and stressing that “words are very important and can lead to unintended consequences.”

He warned Russia to end the Ukraine war by next week or face fresh, unspecified sanctions.

The nuclear posturing comes amid a deadly surge in Russian drone and missile attacks. A recent strike on Kyiv killed 31 civilians, including five children, prompting a day of mourning in the Ukrainian capital.

Medvedev, Russia’s deputy security council chairman, had mocked Trump’s sanctions threat and referenced the “Dead Hand” — a Cold War-era Russian nuclear control system.

Trump fired back, calling Medvedev a “failed former president” and warned him to “watch his words.”

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin insists his conditions for ending the war — including Ukraine giving up territory and dropping NATO ambitions — remain unchanged.

  • Trump Maintains Iran Nuclear Sites Were “Obliterated” Despite Reports Some Survived

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has insisted that American airstrikes "completely destroyed" Iran’s nuclear sites, dismissing reports suggesting that some facilities largely survived the June 22 attack.

Taking to Truth Social on Saturday, Trump reiterated that “all three nuclear sites in Iran were completely destroyed and/or OBLITERATED,” claiming it would take Iran years to rebuild. “If Iran wanted to do so, they would be much better off starting anew, in three different locations,” he added.

The coordinated U.S. missile strikes — alongside an Israeli campaign — targeted nuclear facilities in Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz. The attacks were framed by Washington as a decisive blow against Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons ambitions.

However, a recent NBC News report citing military damage assessments suggests a less conclusive outcome. According to five current and former U.S. officials, only one of the three sites was mostly destroyed, while the others could potentially resume uranium enrichment within months.

The report also revealed that the Pentagon had proposed a longer, more extensive bombing campaign, but Trump allegedly opted for a single-night strike to avoid high casualties and deeper involvement in the conflict.

Iran continues to insist its nuclear program is solely for peaceful, civilian purposes. #Donald Trump

  • Court detains Scott Iguma for accusing real estate firm of fraud.

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered the remand of popular activist and influencer Scott Iguma in custody until Monday, July 21, over allegations of criminal defamation against real estate firm, PWAN Group.

Iguma, who commands a following of over one million on Instagram, was arraigned on Thursday after being arrested on Wednesday at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.

Iguma is facing a 10-count charge bordering on false publication and criminal defamation, allegedly made using his social media platform to accuse PWAN of fraudulent real estate practices.

In a series of posts reportedly made on May 27 and 28, 2025, Iguma claimed that PWAN:

Collected payments from investors without allocating land,
Was a company that “sells receipts instead of land”, and
Allegedly called PWAN’s founder “the leader of the thieves.”
    He also posted:

“If anything happens to me, PWAN should be number 1 suspect. If anything happens to my family, nuclear and extended, hold PWAN responsible, even if I fall sick, hold PWAN responsible.”

The Nigeria Police, represented in court by ASP A.O. Nwabuisi, stated that Iguma’s posts were false, inciting, and posed a threat to public order and personal safety. They argued that the content contravened Section 24 (1)(b) and is punishable under Section 24 (2)(ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, recently amended in 2024.

The police claim that Iguma’s online accusations were made with the intent to damage the reputation of PWAN and to incite public hatred and unrest.

    Iguma’s legal team pushes back
Reacting to his remand, a post on his verified Instagram handle @scott_iguma criticised the Nigeria Police for what it called an abuse of power.

“The Nigerian Police Force has again towed the path of illegality by detaining our client, Mr Scott Iguma, today for purportedly defaming PWAN,” the statement read.

    The statement further argued that:

Defamation is no longer a criminal offence in Lagos State, following the 2011 Lagos State Criminal Law which decriminalised it.
The police have no legal basis to detain Iguma over the civil matter.
The case is an example of “using law enforcement for intimidation.”

The post also alleged that PWAN had influenced the police, claiming:

“PWAN used the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Yaba Panti, to detain Scott Iguma.”

The court adjourned the matter to Monday, July 21, 2025, for hearing on Iguma’s bail application and further proceedings.
Court detains Scott Iguma for accusing real estate firm of fraud. In a series of posts reportedly made on May 27 and 28, 2025, Iguma claimed that PWAN: Collected payments from investors without allocating land, Was a company that “sells receipts instead of land”, and Allegedly called PWAN’s founder “the leader of the thieves.” He also posted: “If anything happens to me, PWAN should be number 1 suspect. If anything happens to my family, nuclear and extended, hold PWAN responsible, even if I fall sick, hold PWAN responsible.” The Nigeria Police, represented in court by ASP A.O. • Iran Releases New Death Toll from War with Israel, Warns the Figures Could Increase.

According to a report by Dailypost on Tuesday 8 July, 2025, Iran has updated its official casualty figures from the recent war with Israel, confirming that more than 1,060 people lost their lives in the 12-day conflict and cautioning that the death toll could still increase as some victims remain critically injured.

The revised toll was presented by Saeed Ohadi, who leads Iran’s Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, during a state television broadcast on Monday night. “We may see the death toll reach 1,100 given the severity of injuries sustained by some of the wounded,” he stated.

Throughout the war, Iran sustained repeated strikes from Israeli forces, which targeted several strategic points, including air defense sites, military compounds, and sections of its nuclear program. Though officials initially minimized the reported damage, the scale of destruction has slowly been acknowledged in the weeks following the ceasefire.

Despite offering updated death figures, Iranian authorities continue to withhold specifics on military equipment losses and structural damage.

Separately, the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists group released a broader casualty report, listing 1,190 fatalities, including 436 civilians and 435 personnel from Iran’s security forces. The organization also estimated that more than 4,475 individuals were injured during the hostilities.

  • No Going Back on Nuclear Test Ban in Nigeria – Shettima Reaffirms.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has restated Nigeria’s firm commitment to the global ban on nuclear weapons testing.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa during a meeting with a delegation from the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO), led by its Executive Secretary Dr. Robert Floyd, Shettima emphasized that Nigeria’s focus remains on tackling pressing socio-economic issues such as poverty and climate change, not on nuclear weapons development.

“Nuclear war has no winners,” Shettima said. “In sub-Saharan Africa, our f+ght is against poverty and the growing impact of climate change. We have no interest in nuclear weapons. Our priorities lie in improving the economy and protecting the environment.”

He praised the CTBTO for its global surveillance efforts, noting its network of 337 monitoring stations, which have successfully detected all seven nuclear tests conducted by North Korea.

Shettima also highlighted the organisation’s role in supporting civilian applications like tsunami and volcano monitoring, which contribute to global ecological stability. In response, Dr. Floyd commended Nigeria’s leadership under President Bola Tinubu for supporting the global push against nuclear testing.

He described the relationship between Nigeria and the CTBTO as a “natural partnership” and lauded the country’s contributions to strengthening international norms against nuclear proliferation.

  • Nigerian Pastor Jailed in U.S. Over $4.2m COVID-19 Relief fra¥d, Osun Monarch Loses Property.

A U.S. District Court has sentenced Nigerian pastor Edward Oluwasanmi to 27 months in prison for his role in a multi-million-dollar COVID-19 relief fra¥d involving falsified applications under the U.S. Paycheck Protection Programme (PPP) and Economic Inj¥ry Disaster Loans (EIDL).

Oluwasanmi, convicted on three counts of fra¥d, was also fined $15,000 and ordered to report to the U.S. Marshal Service. He will serve a three-year supervised release after completing his sentence. The court also ordered the forfeiture of a commercial property he owned in South Euclid, Ohio.

His co-conspirator, Oba Joseph Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun State and a U.S.-based accountant, pleaded guilty to related charges and is scheduled for sentencing on August 1. He has already forfeited property to the U.S. government.

The duo was arrested in early 2024 after U.S. investigators uncovered a scheme involving fake tax and wage documents used to fra¥dulently obtain $4.2 million in relief funds meant to help struggling businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fra¥dulent activity occurred between April 2020 and February 2022. Oba Oloyede allegedly used multiple companies—including Available Tax Services Inc. and Available Financial Corporation—to facilitate the scam.

His guilty plea followed months of legal proceedings and a deal with U.S. prosecutors. The Osun State Government, reacting to the monarch’s legal troubles, said it is monitoring the case and will wait for the court’s final decision before taking any official action.

“A person is innocent until a court convicts them. We don’t want to jump the g¥n,” said Kolapo Alimi, Commissioner for Information. The monarch’s prolonged absence from public functions had already triggered a preliminary inquiry by the state government.
