• EFCC arraigns man over ₦9m fraud in Maiduguri.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday arraigned Ali Mohammed before Justice Mohammed Maina of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri on allegations of a ₦9 million fraud.

The EFCC’s Maiduguri Zonal Directorate filed a two-count charge against Mohammed, accusing him of obtaining money by false pretence and criminal misappropriation. The charges stem from a transaction in September 2022, when Mohammed allegedly collected ₦9 million from Nuhu Alfa. Prosecutors said the funds were paid into a First Bank account in the name of Ali Bako, under the claim that they would be used for the purchase and supply of petroleum products.

One of the charges read in court stated: “That you, Ali Mohammed, on or about September 2022 in Maiduguri, Borno State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of ₦9,000,000.00 from Nuhu Alfa… under the false pretence that same is meant for an investment into the business of purchase and supply of petroleum products, a representation which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.”

Mohammed pleaded not guilty to both counts. Prosecution counsel, S.O. Saka, applied for a trial date and requested that the defendant be remanded in custody. Justice Maina granted the application, ordered Mohammed’s remand at the Maiduguri Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until Wednesday, 24 September, for trial.

  • Gyokeres Bags Brace as Arsenal Thrash Leeds 5-0

Viktor Gyokeres netted twice to open his Arsenal account as the Gunners crushed Leeds United 5-0 at the Emirates.

Jurrien Timber scored twice from corners while Bukayo Saka and Gyokeres added goals before the Swede sealed the rout from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

The win lifted Arsenal above Tottenham at the top of the Premier League, but injuries to captain Martin Odegaard and talisman Saka soured the celebrations just days before a crucial clash with Liverpool.

New £60m signing Eberechi Eze was unveiled before kick-off, while 15-year-old Max Dowman made his debut, winning the late penalty that Gyokeres converted.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Kaura-Namoda South Constituency bye-election in Zamfara State inconclusive.

Returning Officer, Prof. Lawal Sa’adu, said the margin of 1,662 votes between APC (7,001) and PDP (5,339) was less than the 3,265 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected in polling units where elections were cancelled.

Voting was cancelled in Sakajiki and Kyambarawa wards, affecting five polling units with over 5,400 registered voters.

The Zamfara APC described the poll as “tough and tense,” accusing the PDP-led state government of intimidation. It urged members to remain calm while awaiting INEC’s final decision.

  • "I told them I was going to the toilet... and I ran away!" — Popular Nollywood actor Afeez Oyetoro, famously known as Saka, has opened up about the culture shock he faced when he first moved to Lagos from his quiet village upbringing.

In a candid YouTube interview with Channels Television, Saka recalled how the chaotic pace of Lagos nearly broke him. He described the stress of waking up at 4 a.m. to beat traffic, the overwhelming hustle, and a moment where he felt so drained that he literally walked out of work pretending to visit the restroom — and never returned that day.

"The life of Lagos was terrible for me... I ran away. Later I came back to face the challenges. To the glory of God, I think I'm okay now."

Today, Saka stands as a symbol of resilience. He says the trials of adapting to Lagos life built his mental strength and shaped the perseverance that drives his successful acting career.

His story reminds us all: Even the brightest stars had to adjust to the darkness before they could shine.
