The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has criticised a section of President Bola Tinubu’s October 1 Independence Day speech on security, saying whoever wrote the speech for the president “does not like him.”

Speaking during the November Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption City Campground, Adeboye said, “I almost spoke last month when I heard the speech of my in-law (Tinubu), particularly that section that spoke about security. I heard him saying all is well now, that displaced people have returned to their villages. I almost said the one who wrote that speech does not like him. Somebody wrote it, but it was the President who read it. There are several people around Tinubu who are not telling him the truth. The following day, we read that a traditional ruler was killed in Kwara or Kogi.”

Adeboye noted that while the President inherited Nigeria’s security challenges, the focus should now be on taking decisive action to resolve them.

“Our President inherited this problem. I am an applied mathematician; I am only interested in getting the problem solved.”

He also urged the Federal Government to move wisely, diplomatically, and decisively in addressing insecurity and the alleged killings of Christians in some parts of the country.

“If I am asked to make suggestions, I will say quietly to the governments to move wisely, diplomatically. I have cousins. There were times in Nigeria when Christians and Muslims were living together. I have families that are Muslims till date. When I was little, I ate sari with them, and I still eat my breakfast, but the issue of religion started when politics came into religion.”

The cleric said he had privately advised past presidents on the security crisis but noted that his role was limited to offering counsel.

“All the presidents who were around when this trouble started, whatever I discussed is top privacy. I have done my best behind the scenes, but as I have always told you, you can only advise a Commander-in-Chief; you cannot command him. But I have tried. God is my witness.”

“This is not the time for joking. This is not the time for drama… The point is, people are dying. Innocent people are dying.”

Critiquing a recent presidential statement, he said:
“I almost spoke last month when I heard the speech of my in-law, the President… where I heard him say, ‘All is well now, displaced people have returned to their villages.’ I almost said, ‘The one who wrote that speech for my President, my in-law, does not like him.’”

“Do you think I asked you to fast for 100 days for fun? Didn’t I share with you, my children, that God said this would be a remarkable year? Didn’t I share with you that God said the wind that started blowing last year would be more violent this year?”

“I know people have asked, if you are never sick again, how are you going to die? Who told you you have to be sick to die?” Adeboye asked the congregation. “When your day comes, you just leave and go.”

Pastor Enoch Adeboye has weighed in on the ongoing debate about compensation for the Super Falcons’ coaches, saying they should not earn less than the players they train.

Speaking on Sunday during the RCCG’s monthly Thanksgiving Service in Ebute-Meta, Lagos, the 82-year-old cleric praised President Bola Tinubu for rewarding the Falcons’ 2024 WAFCON victory with generous gifts, but questioned the disparity in rewards between players and coaches.

Tinubu had awarded the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each of the 24 Super Falcons players and promised each a three-bedroom apartment. Meanwhile, the team’s technical crew—including head coach Justin Madugu—were awarded the equivalent of $50,000.

Reacting during his sermon titled The Winning Team, Pastor Adeboye said, “I thank the President for the gifts to the Falcons. However, I’m not quite sure I agree that the coaches should get less than the players.

Without coaches, the team would not succeed.” He continued, “When you read Revelation 2:17, you’ll see overcomers are rewarded. So, I wasn’t surprised when the President decided to honour the team. But let’s not forget the coaches. God bless them.”

Adeboye, who was a trained boxer in his youth, shared a personal story about his coach from 1960. “That man gave us a tough time. We once asked if we were training for the army. But today, I thank him.

Gospel Singer Big Bolaji Laid to Rest in Ibadan Amidst Tears and Tributes 

Bolaji Adedotun Olanrewaju, popularly known as Big Bolaji, was laid to rest in Ibadan, Oyo State, on May 28, 2025. The 50-year-old gospel minister passed away on April 19 after a brief illness.  

The final rites began with a funeral service and lying-in-state ceremony at the Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre in Ibadan. The event was attended by family, friends, and fellow gospel artists, including Tosin Bee, Mike Abdul, Bidemi Olaoba, Yetunde Are, and comedian Woli Agba. Emotional scenes unfolded as pallbearers carried Big Bolaji’s flower-adorned casket into the venue, and a tribute video celebrating his life and musical legacy was played. 

The burial procession proceeded to the All Souls Private Cemetery in Ido, Ibadan, where his wife, siblings, and loved ones gathered to pay their final respects. 

Big Bolaji was not only a gospel singer but also an ordained minister in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), where he served for over 19 years. He was renowned for his annual concert, ‘Turnitup With Big Bolaji,’ held in Ibadan. He is survived by his wife and two children.
