  • Wahala Don Set for Adamawa: Bachama Group Accuses Nigerian Army, Big Men of Backing Tchobo Militia to Grab Mineral Land

Wahala don set for Adamawa State oo! Serious allegations don burst as Bachama militia group accuse the Nigerian military and powerful political big men of backing armed Tchobo militia to chase dem from their ancestral land – because of mineral wealth wey dey the area.

According to Bachama leaders, this no be ordinary communal clash again. Dem talk say the fight don pass ethnic matter and don turn calculated land grab, where money, minerals and political interest don enter the matter.

Dem say the crisis scatter well-well on July 7, 2025, when armed Tchobo fighters allegedly attack Bachama villages, kill innocent people without provocation. Bachama leaders insist say their people no retaliate, saying dem always try to remain on the defensive.

When security forces later enter the area, Bachama people initially happy. But e no take long before dem begin cry say the deployment turn to “occupation in favour of our attackers.” As in, soldiers wey suppose protect everybody allegedly begin protect only one side.

Wahala come rise again on December 8, 2025, when another attack allegedly happen. In a viral video, the Bachama group claim say while their youths try defend the community, soldiers allegedly intervene in a way wey lead to the killing of unarmed Bachama women wey gather dey pray for their men.

Till today, dem say no serious investigation don come out, one full month after the incident.

The group still talk about selective justice. Dem allege say two Bachama youths were arrested inside their bedrooms while sleeping, labeled as terrorists, and accused of keeping guns. As we speak, dem dey prison, waiting for trial.

Meanwhile, according to the group, a Tchobo youth leader wey publicly issue threats and even call for the removal of the Hama Bachama (their paramount ruler) still dey walk free, untouched.

“This is not accidental,” one Bachama leader talk. “The troops deployed here are compromised. They have taken sides and are protecting a tribal militia because powerful political actors want access to the mineral resources on our land.”

Dem even question why soldiers – instead of mobile police wey dem usually use for communal crisis – were sent to the area. According to dem, this military presence don embolden armed militia, who now dey move freely with weapons while residents dey trapped inside their homes.

Farmers no fit go farm. Families no fit work. Life don freeze. Meanwhile, armed men allegedly dey roam under the watch of security forces.

According to Bachama leaders, the real plan be to intimidate and weaken their people until dem abandon the land, which dem believe say get valuable, untapped mineral deposits.

“We are urging the Federal Government to withdraw these troops and stop this injustice,” the group said. “There can be no peace where security forces are seen as partners in exploitation.”

Dem also call on the Adamawa State Government to release their arrested kinsmen within 48 hours, warning say if the detention continue while anger dey build, e fit ignite another round of violence.

Police spokesman in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirm say two men don be charged to court over the conflict. But Bachama people insist say justice no dey balanced.

SaharaReporters don previously report several times on the Bachama–Tchobo conflict, including allegations of village attacks, displacement, and claims of security bias. Observers don warn before say if elite interest and competition over land and minerals continue, the crisis fit turn full-blown humanitarian disaster.

As e stand now, one thing clear:

  • Are Terrorists Fleeing U.S. Airstrikes in Sokoto Now Spreading Violence Into Benue? Why Agatu Council Chairman Says Armed Groups Have Infiltrated Communities, Forced Policy Reversals, and Triggered a New Security Crisis

Are counterterrorism operations in one part of Nigeria unintentionally pushing violence into other states? That is the concern raised by the Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State, James Melvin Ejeh, who says armed groups displaced by recent U.S.–Nigerian military airstrikes in Sokoto State are now infiltrating communities in his region.

According to Ejeh, terrorists targeted in coordinated air operations in December have not been eliminated but instead relocated across state borders, spreading insecurity into rural Benue communities. He described a surge in attacks on Agatu villages, warning that innocent residents are now facing “unprecedented terror” as fleeing fighters establish new footholds.

The council chairman said intelligence reports and local accounts indicate that the militants, after being dislodged from Sokoto, are moving into neighbouring states, with Agatu among the hardest hit. He stressed that what was intended as a strategic blow against terrorism may now be creating a dangerous spillover effect, exposing vulnerable farming communities to renewed violence.

In response to the escalating attacks, Ejeh announced a decisive policy shift: the immediate cancellation of a 2017 grazing agreement that allowed herdsmen access to Adepati Island. He argued that the agreement, originally framed as a peacebuilding measure, had instead compromised community safety and enabled armed elements to operate within Agatu territory.

Describing the pact as an arrangement made “under the guise of promoting peaceful coexistence,” Ejeh accused previous local administrations of placing diplomacy above the security of residents. He declared the agreement null and void, ordered all armed herders to vacate Agatu land, and emphasized that no portion of Agatu belongs to herders under any guise.

Ejeh further revealed that security agencies have begun arrests and investigations, warning that anyone found collaborating with armed groups will face the full weight of the law. He maintained that the people of Agatu have reached a firm position: no future engagement with herders will occur unless it is conducted lawfully, transparently, and only after broad consultation with traditional rulers and community stakeholders.

The development raises urgent national questions: Are military airstrikes merely displacing terrorists rather than dismantling their networks? Is Nigeria witnessing a dangerous redistribution of insecurity from one region to another? And can local governments withstand the security fallout without stronger federal coordination?

As communities in Benue confront the consequences of a conflict they did not initiate, the Agatu chairman’s warning highlights a growing fear that counterterrorism victories in one state may be creating new frontlines elsewhere, leaving civilians trapped in the crossfire of shifting militant movements.

Searches of their residences yielded cash, mobile phones, ID documents, ATM cards, jewellery, and other personal items, all undergoing forensic analysis.

In a related operation on January 4, troops intercepted 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (about 1,125 litres) in Mayo Nguli, Maiha LGA, suspected to be intended for terrorist activities. The suppliers escaped, and the petroleum products were secured.

All suspects remain in military custody for detailed interrogation to gather further intelligence before being handed over for ongoing investigations. The military emphasized that these operations are part of a broader effort to disrupt terrorist networks, dismantle supply chains, and prevent future attacks.

The military also urged the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies to strengthen security in the North East.

  • Nigerian Military Arrests Shariff Umar, Alleged Mastermind of North-East Suicide Bombings Including Deadly Maiduguri Mosque Attack

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai have arrested Shariff Umar, also known as Yusuf, identified as the key coordinator of a suicide bombing network responsible for multiple attacks and attempted attacks across Nigeria’s North-East region, including the Maiduguri mosque bombing. The arrest followed intelligence-driven cordon-and-search operations carried out in the Kalmari area of Maiduguri on December 31, 2025.

According to a military statement, 14 suspects linked to suicide bombing activities were apprehended during the operation. Investigations revealed that Umar played a central role in recruiting, preparing, and deploying suicide bombers, as well as coordinating logistics and supplying improvised explosive device (IED) components. A detained suspect, Ibrahim Muhammad, reportedly identified Umar as the ringleader of the terror cell.

The military said Umar directly coordinated the December 24, 2025, suicide bombing at the Gamboru Market Mosque, where the attacker detonated a suicide vest and died. He was also linked to a foiled suicide bombing attempt in Damaturu, having allegedly handed over IED materials to the intended bomber in Maiduguri. Further investigations implicated Umar’s wife, Yagana Modu, while his stepdaughter confirmed seeing the suspected bomber at their residence prior to the attack.

The Nigerian Army said all suspects remain in custody and are undergoing intensive interrogation to dismantle the network, uncover additional collaborators, and recover remaining explosives. The military emphasised the importance of community cooperation, noting that terrorist networks often survive by hiding within civilian populations, and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

  • Nigerian Military's OPHK Identifies Shariff Umar as Key Suspected Coordinator of Suicide Bombing Network in the North East, Calls for Public Cooperation

Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing counter-terrorism efforts by identifying Shariff Umar as the primary coordinator behind suicide bombing operations linked to recent attacks and attempted strikes in the North East region.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, this development stemmed from intelligence-driven cordon-and-search operations carried out in the Kalmari area of Maiduguri on December 31, 2025. During these operations, 14 individuals suspected of involvement in suicide bombing activities were apprehended.

In the course of the investigation, a detained suspected suicide bomber, Ibrahim Muhammad, clearly identified Shariff Umar (also known as "Yusuf") as the mastermind and leader of the terrorist network.

Further probes uncovered that Shariff Umar orchestrated the suicide bombing at the Gamboru Market Mosque on December 24, 2025, where his associate, Adamu (now deceased), detonated an explosive vest. He was also pinpointed as the organizer of a thwarted suicide bombing plot in Damaturu, having personally delivered IED components to the bomber in Maiduguri.

Additional connections in the network were uncovered, including the role of Shariff Umar's wife, Yagana Modu, and corroboration from his step daughter, Amina, who confessed to having seen the suspected bomber at their home previously.

These revelations have bolstered the investigation and highlighted the use of household and community-based hiding tactics by terrorist enablers.

The public is therefore encouraged to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious individuals, activities, or movements to security forces.

Building trust and collaboration between the military and local communities is crucial for eradicating terrorism and achieving enduring peace in the region.

  • Nigerian Military Urges Sokoto Residents to Return Explosive Materials Taken From Site of U.S. Christmas Day Airstrike

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has appealed to residents of Sokoto State to return explosive materials allegedly removed from the site of the U.S. Christmas Day airstrike in Jabo community, warning that the items pose serious danger to individuals and the public. The appeal was made by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, who expressed concern that unauthorised persons picked up sensitive and highly dangerous materials from the blast scene.

Onoja stressed that only specialised military formations are trained to recover and neutralise explosive devices, urging those in possession of such items to return them to nearby military bases or recognised security locations for safe disarmament. He also called on the media to help spread the message to prevent possible loss of lives.

The appeal follows ongoing investigations into the joint Nigerian–U.S. airstrike targeting terrorist enclaves in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The state government has confirmed that no civilian casualties were recorded and said post-strike assessments and analyses are still underway, while reiterating its commitment to working with security agencies to address security threats in the state.

  • Primate Ayodele Warns Tinubu of Imminent Reprisal Attacks After US Airstrikes in Sokoto, Says Terrorists Are Ready and Government Must Prepare

Popular Lagos-based cleric and founder of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Babatunde Elijah Ayodele, has issued a strong warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Nigeria’s worsening security situation following recent United States airstrikes on suspected terrorist hideouts in Sokoto State.
In a statement released through his media aide, Primate Ayodele cautioned Nigerians against celebrating the US-led military action, arguing that the strikes do not represent genuine support for Nigeria but rather serve America’s strategic interests. According to the cleric, the operation has exposed what he described as the weakness of the Tinubu administration in tackling insecurity, banditry and terrorism.
Primate Ayodele claimed that terrorists and bandits affected by the airstrikes are already planning heavy reprisals and warned that further attacks could occur. He stressed that kidnapping, terrorism and general insecurity would not end through foreign intervention alone, insisting that Nigeria must take full responsibility for its security challenges. He urged the federal government and the Nigerian military to unite, strengthen intelligence gathering and prepare strategically for possible counter-attacks.
“The government must get prepared,” Ayodele warned, stating that another bombing and violent retaliation could follow, as criminal groups are allegedly ready for the consequences of the recent strikes.
His comments come amid intense national debate over the Christmas Day US airstrikes, which the Nigerian Army confirmed were carried out in collaboration with the United States Africa Command against Lakurawa terrorist camps in Sokoto. While the military says the operation degraded terrorist capacity, critics and religious leaders, including Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, have questioned the approach and called for alternative solutions such as education, dialogue and social support for vulnerable communities.
The warning adds to growing concerns about Nigeria’s security outlook, as authorities continue to battle terrorists, bandits and kidnappers across several regions of the country, despite reported successes by the Nigerian Army and Air Force in neutralising criminal elements.

  • Nigerian Military Confirms Airstrikes On Bandit Kingpin Kachalla Dogo Sule’s IED Camp In Zamfara

The Nigerian military has confirmed launching coordinated airstrikes on the logistics and IED production camp of notorious bandit kingpin Kachalla Dogo Sule in Zamfara State. The operation, carried out by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, also targeted Turba Hill in Tsafe Local Government Area, a known hideout for armed groups responsible for killings and roadside bomb attacks. Military authorities said the strikes followed recent deadly IED incidents along the Dan Sadau–Magami axis and resulted in the destruction of key structures and the neutralisation of several bandits. While the Nigerian Air Force described the mission as a major blow to the terror network’s operational capacity, concerns remain about the long-term effectiveness of airstrikes without sustained ground security and community protection.

  • Nigerian Military Kills 438 Boko Haram, ISWAP Fighters in Seven Months, Seizes 300 Starlink Devices

The Nigerian military says its troops under Operation Hadin Kai killed 438 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters during counter-terrorism operations conducted between May and December 2025 in Borno State. The Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, also announced the recovery of 254 assorted weapons, seizure of 300 Starlink communication devices, and rescue of 366 civilians from insurgent-held areas. • Afenifere Faction Backs Trump, Hails US–Nigeria Christmas Day Airstrikes On ISIS Terrorists In Sokoto

A faction of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has thrown its weight behind former US President Donald Trump and the United States military over the Christmas Day airstrikes carried out against ISIS-linked terrorists in North-West Nigeria. In a statement signed by its Organising Secretary, Kole Omololu, the group described the joint US–Nigerian military operation in Sokoto as timely and necessary, arguing that years of insecurity and ineffective governance justified foreign assistance. Afenifere said true sovereignty lies in the ability of a government to protect its citizens and urged Nigerians to support, rather than criticise, the counter-terrorism operation. The endorsement followed confirmations by both the Nigerian government and Defence Headquarters that the strikes were approved and marked one of the most significant US military interventions on Nigerian soil in the fight against terrorism.

  • Nigeria’s Blurred Foreign Policy Vision In A Fractured Global Order Under Tinubu Administration, By Owei Lakemfa

In this opinion piece, labour leader and columnist Owei Lakemfa examines Nigeria’s increasingly blurred foreign policy direction amid a fractured and unpredictable global order. Using the detention and eventual release of eleven Nigerian military officers in Burkina Faso as a case study, Lakemfa questions the Tinubu administration’s handling of diplomacy, security, and international relations. He criticises Nigeria’s reliance on ad-hoc presidential diplomacy, sidelining of the Foreign Ministry, prolonged absence of ambassadors, and embarrassing missteps involving the UAE and global shipping giant Maersk. Lakemfa argues that Nigeria’s traditional Pan-Africanist foreign policy vision has weakened, turning the country into a proxy in regional affairs, and calls for a return to professional diplomacy led primarily by experienced career diplomats to restore credibility and clarity in Nigeria’s global engagement.

  • BREAKING: “Enough Is Enough” — Senator Ayodele Arise has urged Nigeria to act swiftly over the continued detention of Nigerian troops in Burkina Faso, warning that what started casually is now beginning to drag into weeks.

Raising the alarm on the Senate floor, Arise called on the Federal Government and military leadership to take firm action against Captain Ibrahim Traoré over the detention of 11 Nigerian military personnel and a Nigerian aircraft. He stressed that Nigeria’s silence is becoming danger0us.

Other lawmakers backed his position, describing the situation as degrading and unacceptable, and warned that prolonged inaction could weaken Nigeria’s sovereignty and send the wrong signal internationally.

“No country will allow its troops to be held without explanation,” lawmakers insisted, emphasizing that the soldiers were on official duty and that nothing justifies their continued detention.

    This is no longer a diplomatic whisper — it’s a national c0ncern.

Should Nigeria take a tougher diplomatic or military stance to secure the release of its detained soldiers?
