• Lagos State Nurses Raise Alarm Over Stagnation, Poor Welfare, Staff Shortage in Primary Health Care Board

    The Elegant Nurses Forum has highlighted long-standing challenges faced by nurses under the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB), including career stagnation, improper placement, poor welfare, staff shortages, and unsafe working conditions. Degree-holding nurses have reportedly been excluded from promotions granted to colleagues under the Health Service Commission and LASUTH.

    The shortage of nurses leaves existing staff overworked and vulnerable to burnout, while dilapidated PHC facilities further compromise patient care. The forum demands immediate lawful placement and promotion for all qualified nurses, recruitment to fill staffing gaps, better welfare packages, and urgent rehabilitation of primary health care centres to ensure safe and effective healthcare delivery.

  • Lagos Tanker Explosion Near University Kills Two As LASTMA Blames Overspeeding On Badagry Expressway

    A tragic tanker explosion near the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) along the Oto-Ijanikin axis of the Badagry Expressway has claimed the lives of two people, sparking renewed concerns over road safety in Lagos. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when a diesel-laden Mack truck heading toward Agbara reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle at high speed.

    According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the tanker crashed and immediately burst into flames due to reckless overspeeding. The driver and an adult female passenger trapped inside the vehicle were unable to escape and died at the scene. LASTMA officials said their operatives swiftly arrived at the location, cordoned off the area, and contacted emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Ijanikin Police Division.

    Authorities also intervened to stop residents who had rushed to the scene with containers to scoop spilled diesel, warning that such actions are extremely dangerous and often lead to secondary explosions and preventable deaths. LASTMA stressed that the quick response of its officers helped avert a potentially larger disaster.

    Emergency responders eventually extinguished the fire and removed the burnt tanker from the road, while the FRSC handled the recovery of the victims. The explosion caused significant traffic disruption along the busy Badagry Expressway, with motorists advised to expect delays as clearing operations continued.

    LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the deaths as painful and avoidable, particularly during the festive season. He cautioned tanker and articulated vehicle drivers to adhere strictly to speed limits and traffic regulations, noting that overspeeding remains a leading cause of fatal accidents in Lagos. He also issued a strong warning against fuel scooping at accident scenes, calling the practice irresponsible and a serious threat to public safety.

  • KWAM 1 vs Governor Dapo Abiodun: Ogun High Court Dismisses Fuji Star’s Bid to Stop Awujale Selection Process, Orders Accelerated Hearing

    An Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode has dismissed an application filed by renowned Fuji musician, Otunba Wasiu Olasunkanmi Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, seeking to halt the selection process of a new Awujale of Ijebuland. The court, presided over by Justice A. A. Omoniyi, ruled that the application lacked merit and declined to grant an interim injunction stopping the process. KWAM 1 had challenged the dominance of the Fusengbuwa ruling house in producing the next Awujale, arguing that the process violated Ogun State chieftaincy laws and his constitutional rights as a member of the Fidipote ruling house. While denying the injunction, the court ordered an accelerated hearing of the substantive suit, now scheduled for January 14, 2026. The case has intensified public debate over traditional succession, royal lineage, and state involvement in chieftaincy matters in Ogun State.

  • Strike: ASUU to hold strategic NEC meeting as action enters week two.

    The national leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU, will meet today, Tuesday, to evaluate its position on the ongoing strike by its members.

    The development comes after ASUU disclosed that the Government’s Renegotiation Team, led by Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, came to the negotiation table with a documented response to the union’s demands and made some offers to it.

    In a strike bulletin issued on Monday, the union acknowledged that progress was being recorded in certain areas such as the release of third-party deductions, arrears of promotions, mainstreaming of Earned Academic Allowance, EAA, confiscation of University of Abuja land, and victimization of its members in KSU, LASU and FUTO.

    ASUU members on Monday held congresses across its branches in the various universities to vote on whether the union should suspend or continue its labour action.

    Recall that the union had given a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government for the conclusion and implementation of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, as well as addressing other demands of its members.

    However, there’s indication that ASUU wasn’t ready to throw in the towel yet as feelers are that many of the branches have voted in support of the continuation of the strike.

    Officials of ASUU at the University of Abuja, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. They confided in DAILY POST that the matter is far from being over.

    According to them, their members in respective branches were in support of the continuation of the strike despite some offers being made to ASUU by the Nigerian government.

  • “We Never Knew She Was Sick” — Brother of Late Gospel Singer Aduke Gold Reveals Emotional Details About Her Death

    The heartbreaking story surrounding the death of late gospel singer Moronkola Aduke Ajayi, fondly known as Aduke Gold, has taken a new turn as her brother, Pastor Engineer Ebunoluwa Oluyemi Noah, opened up about the painful truth behind her passing.

    In an emotional interview on Talk To B Podcast on Friday, October 17, 2025, Noah revealed that the family only learned the true cause of Aduke’s death — cervical cancer — after receiving her death certificate.

    “I challenged her manager, Mayowa. How come? What caused Aduke’s death?” he recounted. “He didn’t even open up. He only said she was feeling somehow and was moved from one hospital to another — from Begger to LASUTH. It was when I saw the death certificate that I knew it was cervical cancer.”

    Noah expressed shock that no one in the family or her close circle knew about her illness. “Aduke was going through all this and nobody was aware. Honestly, nobody knew she had cervical cancer,” he said tearfully.

    He described Aduke as a lively and cheerful person, noting that she appeared healthy even after returning from the UK. “She was getting fatter; there were no signs at all,” he added.

    According to him, the gospel singer had undergone two chemotherapy sessions and was preparing for the third before her tragic passing. “The day she died, they said she took ginger and garlic, which triggered internal bleeding. Before they could help her, she didn’t make it,” Noah explained.

    The revelation has left fans and colleagues heartbroken, sparking renewed conversations about early detection and awareness of cervical cancer among women.

    Rest in peace, Aduke Gold — your voice may be gone, but your songs and legacy will live forever.

  • Osun Monarchs Appeal to Adeleke Over Alleged Plot to Reverse Their Elevation

    Two newly elevated traditional rulers in Osun State have raised concerns over a purported attempt by officials of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to revoke their appointments.

    The monarchs—Olokeolooru Obalufon of Okeolooru Obalufon, Oba Adebisi Mukaila Michael, and Onirante of Irante, Oba Ogundele Olasunkanmi Mathew—were elevated to Part II Obas by Governor Ademola Adeleke during the state executive council meeting on Friday, September 12, 2025, according to a letter from their counsel, Sulaiman Akano.

    Before their elevation, the two monarchs served as community chiefs (Baale) under the Akinfin Traditional Council in Boluwaduro Local Government. Reports indicate that each monarch paid N500,000 to cover the presentation of their staff of office and instrument of appointment.

    However, a few days after receiving their appointment letters and staff of office, the monarchs were allegedly informed of a plan by some ministry officials to reverse their elevation.

    In a letter dated September 23, addressed to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, their counsel urged Governor Adeleke to intervene and prevent any attempt to annul the appointments.

    The letter stated in part:

    “After our clients were duly screened and cleared by both the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, approved their elevation to Part II (Recognised Status) under the Chief’s Law (Cap. 25) Laws of Osun State 2002 during the EXCO meeting held on September 12, 2025.
    Our clients received appointment letters on September 15 and were presented with their staff of office on September 16. The elevation was gazetted in the Osun State of Nigeria Gazette on September 18, 2025.”

    The letter further alleged that the Oluresi of Iresi is conspiring with some ministry officials to reverse the appointments. The counsel warned that such a move could spark unrest between the affected communities.

    “The appointment and elevation of our clients were well received by their communities. Any attempt to reverse the appointments could trigger communal tension. We appeal to your office to caution and restrain the Oluresi of Iresi and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs from taking such action,” the letter added.

    The counsel emphasized that the monarchs are prepared to take legal action against anyone involved in the alleged conspiracy if the matter is not addressed.

    Attempts to reach Barr. Dosu Babatunde, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

  • BREAKING: LASU CHANGES ADMISSION AGGREGATE GRADING SYSTEM FOR 2025/2026.

    Lagos State University (LASU) has introduced a new grading formula for calculating aggregate scores for admission, as confirmed in the ongoing 2025/2026 admission screening registration.

    This change affects how both JAMB and O'Level results are calculated, and all applicants are advised to take note and adjust their expectations accordingly.

    NEW LASU AGGREGATE FORMULA:

    JAMB Score Calculation:
    Multiply your JAMB score by 0.15

    O’LEVEL Calculation (Best 5 relevant subjects):

    A1 = 8 points
    B2 = 7 points
    B3 = 6 points
    C4 = 5 points
    C5 = 4 points
    C6 = 3 points

    Add both your JAMB and O’Level points together to get your total aggregate score.

    Example Calculation:

    JAMB Score = 280 → 280 × 0.15 = 42

    O’Level Grades: A1, B2, B3, C4, C5 = 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 = 30

    Total Aggregate = 42 + 30 = 72%

    These changes were confirmed through LASU’s updated screening system. All candidates should now use this format to avoid wrong assumptions about their admission chances.
