• Bigger Than Africa: The Yoruba Story That Conquered Continents and Captivated Netflix Audiences

The Yoruba people — one of Africa’s most influential tribes with over 40 million members worldwide — take center stage in the breathtaking documentary Bigger Than Africa, directed by Toyin Ibrahim Adekeye.

Premiered on February 12, 2018, this cinematic masterpiece takes viewers across six countries — Nigeria, the Republic of Benin, Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago, Cuba, and the United States — to explore the global influence, spirituality, and resilience of Yoruba culture.

    A Story That Transcends Borders
Bigger Than Africa focuses not on what divides Africans, but on what unites them. Through powerful storytelling and insightful interviews, it reveals how Yoruba traditions survived slavery, crossed oceans, and became embedded in cultures across the Americas.

The documentary features some of Africa’s most respected figures — former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, the King of Port Novo, and Fame Elebuibon, among others.

    Global Recognition and Awards
Produced by Motherland Productions, the documentary has earned several international accolades, including:

Best Documentary, International Houston Black Film Festival (2019)

Best Documentary, Charlotte Black Film Festival

Jury Special Award, Festival International du Film Panafricain de Cannes

It has also been screened at prestigious venues such as the Schomburg Center for Research on Black Culture and even at the United Nations.

    The Inspiration Behind the Masterpiece
Toyin Ibrahim Adekeye’s inspiration came during a visit to Oyotunji African Village in South Carolina — a Yoruba cultural haven in the U.S. What began as a short school project soon evolved into a global film celebrating African heritage.

Raised in Kwara State, Nigeria, Toyin moved to the U.S. in 2001, later enrolling at the Los Angeles Film School to pursue his passion for filmmaking. His journey, fueled by creativity and cultural pride, birthed Bigger Than Africa — a documentary that redefines how the world sees Yoruba culture.

    Now Streaming on Netflix
Since May 13, Bigger Than Africa has been available for global streaming on Netflix, distributed by KAP Film and EGMNY (New York). This gives millions worldwide a chance to experience the beauty, depth, and unity of Yoruba heritage.

  • “The Flame May Flicker, But It Must Never Die” — Senate President Akpabio Delivers Stirring Independence Message at 65th Anniversary

In a session that beautifully merged celebration with governance, Senate President Godswill Akpabio delivered an emotional address to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, urging unity, resilience, and a renewed sense of national purpose.

Speaking during plenary at the National Assembly, Akpabio congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all Nigerians on the nation’s milestone, describing independence as a timeless reminder of the sacrifices made by heroes who fought for freedom and self-determination.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since 1960, Akpabio described nation-building as an enduring process rather than a one-time event.

“After we hoisted our flag of freedom 65 years ago, we are reminded that the journey of nationhood is not a sprint but a marathon,” he said.
“It is a relay of faith and sacrifice — one generation handing the torch to the next.”

He encouraged Nigerians to remain steadfast amid present challenges, adding that “the flame may flicker, but it must never be allowed to die.” Akpabio also drew inspiration from the national anthem, reminding the Senate that “the labors of our heroes past” should continue to guide the country toward justice, peace, and prosperity.

Acknowledging Nigeria’s mixed history of “shadow and sunshine,” Akpabio praised the legislature’s role in sustaining democracy and called on lawmakers to work collectively toward governance that truly serves the people.

The session also featured a symbolic moment — the return of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan after a period of medical recovery. Her presence underscored Akpabio’s message of resilience, continuity, and inclusiveness in national leadership.

The Senate President’s message struck a balance between celebration and reflection, highlighting the importance of perseverance and unity in keeping Nigeria’s democratic flame alive.

  • Sean “Diddy” Combs Sentenced to 50 Months in prison, Files Appeal Immediately.

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to four years (50 months) in federal prison after being convicted on two counts of transporting women for prostitution under the Mann Act. With 12 months already served, he will get credit toward his term, and his lawyers say he will appeal.

Prosecutors pushed for over 11 years, with Christy Slavik arguing Combs “has not admitted his guilt” or “accepted responsibility,” calling his conduct “flatly inconsistent with reality” and labeling his Miami booking “the height of hubris.”

His defense pleaded for leniency. Nicole Westmoreland called him an “inspiration” who taught inmates business skills, insisting “Mr. Combs can reach so many more on the outside.” All six of his children testified, with son Christian saying, “He’s my hero … he’s still my superhero,” and daughter Chance adding tearfully, “We need our father. We cannot watch our baby sister grow up fatherless.”

Lawyer Brian Steel blamed Combs’ past violence on “untreated trauma” and a “ferocious drug addiction,” saying he had been high “every single day” from 2000 until 2024. He described harsh jail conditions, including a shank attack Combs narrowly survived.

On the eve of sentencing, Combs apologized in a letter for “the hurt and pain that I have caused others” and vowed “to never commit a crime again,” saying prison had “humbled and broken” him.

Star witness Cassie Ventura also wrote the judge, admitting she still suffers nightmares. Her lawyer hailed her “exemplary courage,” saying she “left an indelible mark on the fight for justice.”

Though acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have meant life, Combs will still serve years behind bars.

  • Why I dropped the name Otedola and replaced it with Ajibade after Marriage— Mr Eazi’s wife, Temi opens up.

Actress Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has explained why she chose to adopt her husband’s surname after marrying Afrobeats star Mr Eazi.

In an interview with the BBC on Wednesday, Temi said the decision was hers alone. “I’m now a married woman, the obvious thing for me is to take my husband’s name. But it’s my personal choice… I also respect a woman’s ability to choose,” she noted.

She added that keeping her relationship private helps her control her narrative. “Moving in silence allows you to build the story you want and share it when and how you’re ready,” she said.

On her father’s recently published memoir, Temi described it as a way for the world to understand his decades-long journey. “My dad has a wealth of wisdom. I’ve been fortunate to learn from him, but I think he felt it was time for the rest of the world to understand his journey as an entrepreneur,” she stated.

Temi acknowledged the advantages of her privileged upbringing. “Oh, absolutely. You will never hear me deny it. It’s important for people born into privilege to acknowledge that leg up they’ve gotten in life,” she said.

She also revealed that her father’s decision not to involve his children in his companies pushed them to create their own paths. “At first I was disappointed… but it turned out to be a blessing because he encouraged us to forge our own paths,” she said, adding that his resilience in tough times remains her greatest inspiration.

Veteran musician, Bright Chimezie, has countered the claims by some artists that smoking and drinking alcohol boost creativity.

The ‘Because English’ hitmaker dismissed such claims as false.

Speaking in a recent episode of the CreativTea Podcast, Chimezie insisted that artists who smoke or drink are only having “fun” and not doing so to boost their creativity.

“The claims that you need to drink or smoke to get music inspiration is false. If you are drinking or smoking, you are just having fun. That doesn’t mean it will boost your creativity,” he said.

The veteran singer added that music inspiration comes naturally.

Police officers in Rivers State have paraded a pastor and two church leaders captured in a viral video flogging a group of minors during what they described as a “spiritual cleansing” ceremony.

In the footage, the cleric was filmed whipping each child multiple times before handing them over to another church member, who directs them to a separate group described as “cleansed.”

According to the clergyman, the deliverance session was carried out on the children according to the directive of the Holy Spirit.

  • “Marry a Good Wife, Be Disciplined, and Fear God” – Singer Mr Eazi Shares Keys to Success.

Nigerian music sensation and entrepreneur, Mr Eazi, recently shared rare insight into his personal principles for success during an impromptu street-style interview that’s now gaining attention online.

In a laid-back encounter, the award-winning artist was approached by a passerby who was intrigued by his composed appearance. “Sorry, you guys look very well put together. Do you mind if I ask what profession you work in?” the interviewer asked.

With a calm smile, Mr Eazi responded, “Oh, I make music.” The conversation quickly turned into an inspirational exchange as the artist was asked about the key principles of success.

Without hesitation, Mr Eazi replied, “Marry a good wife.” He then emphasized the importance of discipline, patience, and the fear of God as essential traits for young people especially those under 25, who aspire to achieve greatness.

Reflecting on his own journey in the music industry, Mr Eazi pointed out “unbelief” as one of the major challenges he had to overcome. “When you’re being second-guessed,” he said, “you could turn it into something that drives you.”

Asked if he thought Nigerians have a different mindset compared to people born in the West, the “Leg Over” crooner explained that, having been born and raised in Nigeria, he can attest to a natural “go-getter” mentality embedded in the culture.

“Even in the way we walk — audacity,” he noted, highlighting the self-belief and boldness many Nigerians carry.
