• Kano govt sues Ganduje, sons, others over alleged N4.49bn fraud.

The Kano State Government has filed a lawsuit against former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, two of his sons, and several others before the State High Court over an alleged N4.49 billion fraud.

The suit seeks to recover the state’s 20 per cent equity stake in Dala Inland Dry Port Limited and to reclaim public funds totalling N4,492,387,013.76, which were allegedly misappropriated.

Filed on October 13, 2025, the case lists as defendants Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; his sons, Umar Abdullahi Umar and Muhammad Abdullahi Umar; Abubakar Sahabo Bawuro, his former Special Adviser; Hassan Bello, former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council; Adamu Aliyu Sanda, a legal practitioner; and Dala Inland Dry Port Limited.

The defendants face a ten-count charge, including criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of public funds, breach of trust, and conflict of interest.

According to the charge sheet, the defendants allegedly conspired to fraudulently transfer 80 per cent of the dry port’s shares, including the state’s 20 per cent equity, to private interests under a shell company known as City Green Enterprise.

Prosecutors allege that the transaction was deliberately structured to conceal the true ownership of the port project, which was initially conceived to boost Kano’s economic infrastructure.

“The defendants deliberately hijacked a federal initiative and used proxies and fake entities to conceal the diversion of public assets meant for the people of Kano State,” the prosecution stated.

The prosecution further claims that over N4.49 billion in public funds was siphoned under the guise of infrastructure development at the dry port, including the construction of a dual carriageway, electricity, and fencing.

  • Ganduje, Barau, Kano APC Leaders Endorse Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

According to a report by Punch on Thursday, September 25, 2025, former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin have reaffirmed their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition in 2027.

At a high-level strategy meeting in Abuja, Ganduje led key Kano political figures in declaring unity within the APC while outlining plans to reclaim Kano State from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Reflecting on the party’s narrow loss in the 2023 governorship election, Ganduje stressed that the APC had remained politically intact and was now regaining ground through strategic alliances and defections.

“We are here to examine our progress in Kano State and to assure Mr. President that our party is solidly behind him,” Ganduje said. “You all know what happened during the last election—we were about to win, but unfortunately, we did not. Since then, our party has remained intact.”

He revealed that several high-profile politicians had defected to the APC, including Senator Kawu Sumaila, former House of Representatives members, a past Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and ex-commissioners from the NNPP. Ganduje described these developments as evidence of APC’s growing political strength in Kano.

The meeting also focused on mobilizing for the ongoing voter registration exercise, which stakeholders described as a critical step toward securing victory in 2027. Ganduje encouraged Kano residents to register in large numbers, stressing that political outcomes depend heavily on voter participation.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin echoed Ganduje’s message, calling the gathering a strategic move ahead of the 2027 elections. He praised Tinubu’s contributions to the North, particularly in Kano, citing federal appointments, infrastructure projects, and institutional investments as proof of the President’s commitment.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi also lauded the administration, pointing to major road constructions and other development initiatives. He dismissed claims that Tinubu has neglected the North, describing such allegations as politically motivated.

The meeting concluded with a unified endorsement of Tinubu’s re-election bid and a strong resolve to return Kano to APC control, signaling the beginning of what promises to be an intense political campaign in the state ahead of 2027.

  • Ganduje, Barau, and Kano APC Leaders Mobilise for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, September 25, 2025, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje joined Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and other Kano stakeholders in reaffirming their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The strategic gathering brought together key party figures who highlighted President Tinubu’s achievements since assuming office.

Speaking at the event, Barau Jibrin, who represents Kano North Senatorial District, underscored Kano’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s political landscape. He assured that the state would remain central in strengthening APC ahead of the next general elections, pointing to several federal projects that directly impact citizens’ lives.

Federal lawmaker Hon. Abubakar Bichi praised President Tinubu for prioritizing infrastructure in Kano, noting that ongoing road projects have improved connectivity and boosted economic activity. He described the initiatives as clear evidence of the president’s commitment to the region.

Other party leaders echoed similar sentiments, stressing that the administration’s achievements—ranging from road construction to wider federal presence—must be amplified at the grassroots to consolidate support.

Addressing the stakeholders, Ganduje emphasized the importance of unity and consistency, urging APC members in Kano to continue communicating the president’s successes to the people.

“Strong communication with the grassroots remains one of the most effective ways of consolidating the president’s support base,” Ganduje said.

Barau Jibrin also reassured members that the Tinubu administration remains attentive to the needs of Kano and the northern region at large. He pledged that continuous collaboration between federal and state leaders would further expand development across the zone.

The meeting, attended by prominent APC leaders, served as a reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to rally behind President Tinubu and prepare early for 2027.

Hon. Bichi dismissed criticisms suggesting the president was neglecting the North, saying:

“So for someone to say Mr President is not interested in the North or in Kano State is all politics.”

With Ganduje, Barau, Bichi, and other heavyweights leading the charge, the APC in Kano signaled its determination to retain its influence and secure Tinubu’s victory in the next presidential election.

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, on Thursday, led prominent party stakeholders from Kano State in declaring full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The strategic meeting, held in Abuja, brought together key APC heavyweights who also vowed to reclaim Kano State from the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Among those present were the Minister of State for Housing, Alhaji Abdullahi Atta, Senator Kawu Sumaila, House Appropriations Committee Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, and former Kano governor, Senator Kabiru Gaya, alongside several other party chieftains.

His remarks were echoed by Barau, who described the stakeholders’ commitment as a collective resolve to guarantee continuity of the Tinubu administration.

Insiders revealed that plans are underway for grassroots mobilisation across all 44 local government areas of Kano State, as part of a broader strategy to weaken NNPP’s hold under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

  • Kwankwaso Signals Conditional Return to APC, Stresses NNPP Must Benefit

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has signaled his willingness to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), but emphasized that such a move would only happen under “strong conditions.”

The former Kano State governor made the declaration on Thursday while receiving Buhari Bakwana, a former aide to ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who visited him with APC representatives from all 44 local government areas of Kano State.

Kwankwaso insisted that any discussion about rejoining APC or merging must clearly outline the benefits for the NNPP.

“If you are asking us to join APC, you must tell us what NNPP will gain,” he said.

The NNPP leader stressed that his party would not allow itself to be “used and dumped,” recalling his role in establishing APC in 2013 and the political persecution he and his allies endured at the time.

“We have gubernatorial candidates in all states and full structures nationwide. What will you offer them if we join? We are ready to join APC under strong conditions and promises. We will not allow anyone to use us and later dump us,” he added.

Kwankwaso also reflected on past frustrations with both APC and PDP, accusing the parties of breaching agreements.

“Eight years of APC under the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari gave us nothing, not even appreciation. In PDP, we asked for just a zonal party chairman, but they refused. We left peacefully, and today we are strong and have integrity,” he noted.

The statement contrasts with his earlier remarks at the NNPP National Executive Council meeting, where he pledged to remain with the party despite swirling rumors of defection.

Reacting to Kwankwaso’s comments, Kano APC State Secretary Hon. Zakari Ibrahim Sarina said the party would welcome him back, provided he abides by APC principles.

“Kwankwaso can’t come to APC to control the party that has national spread. Remember, APC is not NNPP, which he established and controls. We are ready to welcome him because his return would be an advantage to the ruling party. It will also promote peace and development in Kano,” Sarina added.

  • Wike Slams N5m Fines on Ganduje, Idiagbon, Oyinlola, Others for Illegal Land Conversion.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has imposed N5 million fines on former APC Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and several prominent Nigerians for illegally altering the use of their properties in Abuja.

The sanctions affect both living and deceased persons, as well as public and private institutions, accused of converting their lands without approval, thereby violating the right of occupancy terms.

In a newspaper notice, Wike directed all affected allottees to pay the penalty fee within 30 days, by September 10, 2025. The order followed a review of land use in 15 streets across Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse 2, Garki 1, and Garki 2. He also approved the issuance of new title documents reflecting updated land use for a fresh 99-year term once conditions are met.

The FCT administration alleged that Ganduje converted a residence at Adetokunbo Ademola, Wuse 2, into a banking hall without approval. A property at Gana Street, Maitama, belonging to the late Gen. Tunde Idiagbon, was turned into Serendib Hotel and Suites, while former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola allegedly converted a residence at Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Asokoro, into Zhouyi Hotel.

Two former Chief Justices of Nigeria were also listed. Justice Atanda Fatai-Williams’ Maitama residence was reportedly changed into a wood factory and shopping centre, while Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar’s land was converted into a supermarket.

Senator Shehu Sani was sanctioned for turning a residence at Aminu Kano Crescent into a showroom. Others include former Governors Forum DG Okauru Okauru (residence converted to showroom), Lt. Gen. Rufus Kupolati (residence to gym), former FCT Minister Abba Gana (residence at Usuma, Maitama, redesigned into a mall), the NNPC (residential property to NNPC Medical Services), and the Nigeria Police (public place converted for POWA use).

  • Why Ganduje Stepped Down as APC Chairman Aide Hints at Return to Active Politics.

Malam Muhammed Garba, Chief of Staff to former Kano State governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed rumours of a rift between his principal and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that Ganduje’s June 2025 resignation as national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was voluntary.

In a recent interview, Garba said Ganduje left the position after completing “almost 90%” of the tasks assigned to him by the president, adding that the former chairman felt it was the right time to step aside for rest before returning to political activities.

“There is nothing like a cold war between Dr Ganduje and President Tinubu,” Garba said. “He consulted the president before resigning, and his decision was accepted in good faith. They remain in constant touch and are the best of friends.”

Garba explained that Ganduje travelled to London five days after his resignation, partly to attend to his health, which he stressed was not a serious concern, and to take a break after months of intense political engagement.

His absence during President Tinubu’s condolence visit to the family of the late Aminu Dantata in Kano, as well as during the vice president’s visit and the Kaduna summit, was due to his being abroad, Garba added.

He also revealed that the recent APC stakeholders’ meeting in Kano was hosted at Ganduje’s residence, where party leaders reaffirmed him as the state’s party leader without prior notice to him—an action Garba described as a testament to Ganduje’s firm grip on the party and his capacity to secure APC’s victory in 2027.

On whether Ganduje is ready to return to active politics, Garba said: “Of course he is. I was with him in London a few days ago, and I can assure you that he has had enough rest. All things being equal, we expect him back in the country in a couple of days.”

  • We Have Been Hearing Rumour About A Frosty Relationship Between Shettima, Tinubu’ – Ajomale.

The election of Nentawe Yilwatda as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress has alleviated growing speculation about a rift between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President, Kashim Shettima, particularly concerns over Tinubu dropping his deputy as his running mate in 2027.
Vote Okpebholo To Birth A Functional State - Shettima Tells Edo Citizens
Before Yilwatda’s emergence, Naija News understands that rumours of a strained relationship between the President and his Vice intensified following the appointment of Ali Bukar Dalori from Borno State as acting chairman after Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation.

According to Sunday Sun, party insiders believe the choice of a substantive chairman from the North Central zone signals a stabilising move for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket ahead of the next general elections.

Observers say Yilwatda’s election strengthens APC’s zoning balance, which traditionally avoids concentrating power in one or two regions.

With Tinubu from the South-West, Shettima from the North-East, and now Yilwatda from the North Central, the arrangement is seen as equitable. Analysts argue this boosts Shettima’s chances of retaining the vice-presidential slot and consolidating his influence as the undisputed leader of the North-East zone.

Yilwatda, a Christian from North Central, is expected to help the party project inclusivity and address criticisms over its Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

With Tinubu and Shettima as Muslims, Yilwatda’s emergence as APC chairman introduces a Christian leader into the party’s top hierarchy, potentially making the ruling party more appealing to Christian voters, especially in North Central states with significant Christian populations.

    Ajomale Dismisses Rift Allegations
Reacting to the speculations, a close associate of the President and former APC Chairman in Lagos State, Henry Ajomale, dismissed claims of a frosty relationship between Tinubu and Shettima.

Speaking with Sunday Sun in a telephone interview, he said, “Since the former National Chairman, Abdulahi Adamu, is from the North Central, Nasarawa state precisely, it is only fair that the replacement must come from the zone to complete their tenure.

Ajomale Dismisses Rift Allegations Reacting to the speculations, a close associate of the President and former APC Chairman in Lagos State, Henry Ajomale, dismissed claims of a frosty relationship between Tinubu and Shettima. Speaking with Sunday Sun in a telephone interview, he said, “Since the former National Chairman, Abdulahi Adamu, is from the North Central, Nasarawa state precisely, it is only fair that the replacement must come from the zone to complete their tenure.

  • APC Chairman Yilwatda Dismisses Opposition Strength, Vows to Expand Party

Newly appointed APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed the strength of opposition parties, declaring "no opposition for now" during an interview on Channels TV. Yilwatda pointed to APC’s clean sweep in post-2023 governorship elections in Edo, Ondo, Kogi, and Imo as proof of the ruling party’s dominance.

He emphasized plans to expand APC’s reach, noting that two PDP governors—Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta)—have already defected to the party this year. The APC now controls 23 states.

Yilwatda, a former INEC commissioner and Humanitarian Affairs Minister, said his experience across sectors has prepared him for the task of uniting and strengthening the party ahead of 2027. He also pledged to tap into the expertise of past APC leaders like Ganduje, Oshiomhole, and Adamu to advance the party’s agenda.

  • Professor Yilwatda Named New APC National Chairman.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has selected Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as its new national chairman, following the resignation of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who stepped down citing health issues. Yilwatda, 56, currently serves as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and is a former university lecturer.

He hails from Plateau State and was the APC governorship candidate in the state during the 2023 elections. His emergence comes after a late-night meeting in Abuja between President Bola Tinubu and APC governors, where a consensus was reached on his nomination.

The party’s National Executive Committee is expected to formally ratify his appointment later today. Yilwatda’s nomination aligns with the APC’s zoning formula, which reserves the chairmanship for the North-Central region—comprising Plateau, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Niger states.

Sources within the party revealed that his Christian background played a role in his selection. With both the President and Vice President being Muslims, party leaders saw the appointment of a Christian as a move toward religious inclusivity and broader appeal.

A senior APC official described Yilwatda as “young, intelligent, and untainted by political scandal,” expressing hope that he would help revamp the party’s image and build public trust ahead of future elections.

  • BREAKING: APC Names Nentawe Yilwatda as New National Chairman.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed the appointment of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as the new National Chairman of the party.

The announcement was made during the NEC meeting ongoing at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

Yilwatda sworn in as APC Chairman
The chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma, nominated him for the position. House of Representatives speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, seconded the motion.

Yilwatda’s emergence as the new National Chairman of the APC marks a deliberate return of the position to the North Central region, aligning with the party’s original zoning arrangement. Yilwatda hails from Plateau State and replaces Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the former Kano State governor, who recently resigned.

It is understood that the decision to appoint Yilwatda, a Christian from the North Central zone, is a strategy to address internal grievances, particularly over the continued dominance of a Muslim-Muslim leadership structure at the federal level, led by President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Simon Lalong, congratulates the new Chairman
Yilwatda is an loyalist of former Plateau State Governor and current Senator, Simon Lalong. He assumed the role of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs following Lalong’s resignation from the cabinet to return to the Senate. It can be recalled that the Court of Appeal overturned the earlier declared winner in the Plateau South Senatorial race.

Before his ministerial appointment, Yilwatda was the APC governorship candidate in Plateau State during the 2023 general elections but was defeated by the PDP’s Caleb Mutfwang. He also played a key role in the presidential campaign as the state coordinator for the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organisation.

  • 2027: APC GROUP MOUNTS PRESSURE ON TINUBU TO SELECT DOGARA AS RUNNING MATE.

The North-East Coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups has recommended Yakubu Dogara, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, as the running mate to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

This recommendation comes amid growing speculation over Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s future, following last week’s North-East APC zonal meeting, which ended in chaos.

At the meeting, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and his delegation were accused of deliberately sidelining Shettima while endorsing Tinubu’s second-term bid.

But in a swift reaction, the Kano chapter of the party dismissed claims that Ganduje is eyeing Shettima’s seat, blaming supporters of Rabiu Kwankwaso for fuelling the rumours.

“They have been trying to capitalize on any loophole in the APC, but found none,” a party official said.

At a press briefing in Gombe on Monday, Sha’abdini Bello, chairman of the coalition, said Dogara’s endorsement was based on national unity, inclusive leadership, and his performance in the 8th assembly.

His words: “Dogara’s tenure in the 8th Assembly was marked by inclusive leadership as evidenced by his appointments, which represented every state in the North-East and the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

“His proven track record as a unifying figure makes him a trusted and tested leader for the region and the nation.”

Dogara, a Christian from Bauchi state, has long been a proponent of a Muslim-Christian ticket.

The coalition reaffirmed its loyalty to President Tinubu and the APC leadership, calling for unity and discipline in line with the party’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

It also urged the federal government to expedite the Akwanga-Gombe Road project, describing it as a vital infrastructure link between the North-East and the rest of the country.
