• “Every Child Deserves Safety” — First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Calls for United Action Against Sexual Abuse

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on all Nigerians to take decisive action to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse.
She made this appeal in Abuja on Tuesday during the commemoration of the World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse 2025.

    This year’s global theme is:
“Strengthening the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse Through Evidence-Based Policy Making.”

Mrs Tinubu stressed that child protection must be a shared responsibility, urging parents, leaders, institutions, and young people to unite in building a society where children feel safe, valued, and protected.

“As a nation, we must ensure that every child grows up free from fear and harm,” she said.
She further emphasized that true protection requires more than speeches — it demands evidence-driven policies, accurate data, effective research, and actionable collaboration.

She called on government agencies, civil society, traditional and religious leaders, and communities to work collectively in creating safe spaces where children can thrive without the threat of abuse.

The World Day, observed every November 18, was created in 2015 by the Council of Europe and later recognized by the United Nations in 2022 to raise awareness, reduce stigma, support survivors, and strengthen global response to child sexual abuse.

Mrs Tinubu concluded with a prayer:
“May God protect all our children.”

  • "Over 200k people are living with HIV in Rivers state"— Nedu’s podcast guest says, as they raise awareness about the high HIV rate in Lagos.

A recent episode of The Clarity Zone Podcast hosted by media personality Nedu Wazobia sparked conversations online after a guest opened up about the growing concern of HIV/AIDS in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.

Speaking on the show, the guest highlighted the alarming statistics of HIV prevalence across several states, naming Rivers, Benue, Akwa Ibom, and Anambra as some of the states with the highest number of people living with the virus.

“Rivers State has over 200k. The next is Akwa Ibom with over 100k, and funny enough, Anambra State also has about 100k,” the guest said.

The speaker, also discussed efforts being made to promote awareness and connection among people living with the virus, citing the idea of ‘positive bondship’ a space where HIV-positive individuals can meet and build relationships safely.

“We’re trying so hard to curb it, that’s why we have positive bondship that’s why if you’re HIV positive, you can meet your fellow HIV positive. But on this part of the Island, people just believe because I’m positive doesn’t mean I cannot be with who’s negative,” the guest added.

They went on to address the widespread stigma and denial surrounding HIV, noting that many Nigerians, including influential figures, live with the virus in silence.

“A lot of people are in denial. Some of them are like, ‘Anything can kill a man, no be to die?’ Even our politicians, some of them are like that they are HIV positive. Most times people don’t know,” the guest said.

The emotional confession has stirred discussions on social media, with many praising the speaker’s courage to break the silence on a topic often treated as taboo in Nigeria.

  • “We Never Knew She Was Sick” — Brother of Late Gospel Singer Aduke Gold Reveals Emotional Details About Her Death

The heartbreaking story surrounding the death of late gospel singer Moronkola Aduke Ajayi, fondly known as Aduke Gold, has taken a new turn as her brother, Pastor Engineer Ebunoluwa Oluyemi Noah, opened up about the painful truth behind her passing.

In an emotional interview on Talk To B Podcast on Friday, October 17, 2025, Noah revealed that the family only learned the true cause of Aduke’s death — cervical cancer — after receiving her death certificate.

“I challenged her manager, Mayowa. How come? What caused Aduke’s death?” he recounted. “He didn’t even open up. He only said she was feeling somehow and was moved from one hospital to another — from Begger to LASUTH. It was when I saw the death certificate that I knew it was cervical cancer.”

Noah expressed shock that no one in the family or her close circle knew about her illness. “Aduke was going through all this and nobody was aware. Honestly, nobody knew she had cervical cancer,” he said tearfully.

He described Aduke as a lively and cheerful person, noting that she appeared healthy even after returning from the UK. “She was getting fatter; there were no signs at all,” he added.

According to him, the gospel singer had undergone two chemotherapy sessions and was preparing for the third before her tragic passing. “The day she died, they said she took ginger and garlic, which triggered internal bleeding. Before they could help her, she didn’t make it,” Noah explained.

The revelation has left fans and colleagues heartbroken, sparking renewed conversations about early detection and awareness of cervical cancer among women.

Rest in peace, Aduke Gold — your voice may be gone, but your songs and legacy will live forever.

  • “Be a Hand-Washing Hero!” — Nigeria Marks 2025 Global Hand-Washing Day with Renewed Call for Hygiene Awareness

Health begins with clean hands! Nigeria joins the world in celebrating Global Hand-Washing Day 2025, urging citizens, leaders, and communities to make hand hygiene a daily habit for a healthier nation.

Nigeria joined the rest of the world on October 15, 2025, to commemorate Global Hand-Washing Day in Abuja, with the theme “Be a Hand-Washing Hero.” The event focused on raising awareness about the importance of basic hand hygiene in preventing infectious diseases and promoting national health.

Delivering the keynote address, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Utsev, stressed that although hand washing may appear simple, it remains one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of infections. He urged Nigerians to make it a daily habit and a collective responsibility.

“Every Nigerian must make hand washing a consistent part of their daily routine. Clean hands save lives,” Utsev emphasized.

Global Hand-Washing Day is observed every October 15 to highlight the power of washing hands with soap as an affordable, life-saving practice that prevents illnesses and promotes hygiene in homes, schools, and healthcare centers.

According to a UNICEF report, only 16% of Nigerians have access to basic hand-washing facilities at home — a figure that leaves millions, especially children, vulnerable to infectious diseases.

This year’s commemoration also carried a strong call to action, urging leaders at all levels to invest in hand-washing infrastructure and ensure every school, hospital, and workplace has access to clean water and soap.

Representatives from UNICEF reaffirmed their commitment to expanding hygiene education and supporting government programs that improve access to sanitation facilities across Nigeria.

The Federal Government has also continued its push through national initiatives such as the PEWASH Programme, the Clean Nigeria: Use the Toilet Campaign, and the Sustainable Urban and Rural WASH Project — all aimed at achieving universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene.

As Nigeria commemorates this global health event, the message remains clear: clean hands are the first line of defense against disease — and every Nigerian can be a hand-washing hero.

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Edo State office has issued a riot act to residents living at the bank of the River Niger in the state to relocate to higher grounds.

The Head of Benin Operation Office, Kenoma Ojuederie gave the charge during the customers week celebration in Benin City.

Ojuederie said the charge became necessary following the rising level of water on the River Niger and to also avoid loss of lives.

According to him, before now, we have done sensitisation and awareness campaigns to communities in flood-prone areas to get prepared and move to higher ground.

“From now on, we are expecting the flood because water has been released from some dams, and floods are going to come due to the release of water from dams.

“So, as part of measures to avoid casualties, I advised the residents to move to higher ground while those in the area where there are IDP camps should move there and the state government would cater for those in the camp,” he said.

He added that the customers’ week was to appreciate people in emergency management who are victims of disasters and stakeholders.

Earlier, the Edo State Executive Secretary, State Management Agency, SEMA, Jerry Idahosa, explained that the water is already rising, but there is no cause for alarm yet.

Commission alerts security agencies, lists unaccredited institutions, and probes eight more universities over illegal programmes.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has released a comprehensive list of 58 illegal universities operating across Nigeria, warning parents and students to steer clear of such institutions or risk obtaining worthless certificates.
In a public notice, the Commission described the listed institutions as “degree mills” with no legal approval to run academic programmes in the country. “For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronises or obtains any certificate from any of these illegal institutions does so at his or her own risk,” the NUC declared.
The Commission further disclosed that security and law enforcement agencies have been alerted to take action against operators of the unapproved institutions. It also revealed that eight more universities are currently under investigation for allegedly running unauthorised degree programmes.
Among the blacklisted schools are the University of Accountancy and Management Studies; Christians of Charity American University of Science and Technology, Nkpor, Anambra; University of Industry, Yaba, Lagos; Royal University, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State; United Christian University, Imo; UNESCO University, Ndoni, Rivers; Saint Augustine’s University of Technology, Jos; Columbus University, UK (with study centres in Nigeria); and several others.
The NUC emphasised that only duly accredited universities are authorised to award degrees in Nigeria, urging prospective students to always verify the status of institutions before seeking admission.

  • High Cost of Meat: Nutritionist Urges Nigerians to Embrace Cheaper Protein Alternatives Such as Mushrooms, Crayfish, Edible Insects, and Others.

With the rising cost of meat, fish, and eggs, nutrition experts have advised Nigerians to turn to more affordable protein sources such as beans, soybeans, mushrooms, locust beans, crayfish, and even edible insects to maintain healthy diets and prevent malnutrition.

Findings show that a kilogram of beef now sells for N7,000–N8,000, goat meat for up to N10,000, while eggs cost between N6,000–N6,500 per crate. Fish and poultry prices also continue to soar, leaving many households unable to afford conventional animal protein.

Prof. Wasiu Afolabi, former President of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria, said Nigerians have long relied on traditional foods like termites, crickets, snails, mushrooms, and legumes, which remain nutritious and affordable.

He stressed that soybeans, when processed, can serve as meat substitutes, while fermented locust beans mixed with crayfish provide rich protein for soups and stews.

He cautioned, however, that crayfish itself is becoming costly. Still, he urged families to revive traditional food habits, diversify diets, and embrace underutilized but nutritious options.

Supporting this view, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo, Vice-Chancellor of Ave Maria University, emphasized that eating healthy does not have to be expensive if families apply nutrition knowledge to select cheaper but equally beneficial foods. He noted that plant-based proteins like beans, groundnuts, and bambara nuts can complement or substitute animal proteins.

Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Health has warned that Nigeria faces a “triple burden” of undernutrition, overnutrition, and micronutrient deficiency, particularly affecting women and children. According to the 2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey, stunting affects 40% of children under five, while 79% of Nigerians are food insecure.

Experts insist that dietary education and awareness are crucial to ensuring Nigerians adapt affordable alternatives and safeguard their health despite economic hardship.

  • 2026 WCQ: NFF Blames Dessers, Troost-Ekong For Super Eagles’ Draw With South Africa

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has criticised Cyriel Dessers and captain William Troost-Ekong following the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw with South Africa in Tuesday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Needing a win to boost their qualification chances, Nigeria fell behind in the 25th minute when Troost-Ekong turned the ball into his own net. Calvin Bassey restored parity before halftime with a powerful header.

In a post-match statement, NFF Director of Communications, Dr Ademola Olajire, faulted Dessers’ display, describing it as ineffective.

“Cyriel Dessers, who had an unimpressive game in Uyo where he was substituted after coming on, did not fare any better. He was too slow to latch onto passes, failed to win aerial duels and offered little to spark the Nigerian att+ck,” the statement read.

Troost-Ekong also came under f+re for his costly error.

“The Super Eagles’ fighting spirit was diminished after team captain William Ekong inadvertently swept the ball into his own net in the 25th minute, wrong-footing Stanley Nwabali and handing the Bafana Bafana the lead and momentum,” the NFF added.

  • Tinubu Orders Tighter Oversight of Crypto Transctons and Digital Payments

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other regulators to intensify monitoring of cryptocurrency and digital payment activities.

Speaking through Finance Minister Wale Edun at the 18th Annual Banking and Finance Conference of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Abuja, Tinubu noted that the rapid adoption of stablecoins and digital currencies outside traditional banks poses challenges.

“There is a digital revolution. Many people now make payments without using the banking system. To this end, I have directed capital market and banking authorities to track this trend while it is still evolving,” he said.

He stressed that digital tools, AI, and open banking are no longer futuristic but essential for Nigeria’s economic growth.

CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso also revealed that diaspora remittances, now at $600m monthly, could reach $1billion by 2026. CIBN President Prof. Pius Olanrewaju disclosed that since 2024, 16 banks have raised over N2.5 trillion in fresh capital, while private sector credit has surged above N82 trillion, boosting jobs and businesses.
The renewed focus comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing legal battles with Binance Holdings Ltd. The government is demanding over $79.5 billion and ₦231m in damages, along with $2.001 billion in alleged unpaid taxes for 2022 and 2023. The crypto firm and its executives, Tigran Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, face multiple charges including tax evasion, money laundering, and foreign exchange violations.

The cases, currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja, also seek penalties for tax defaults, interest charges tied to CBN’s lending rate, and other sanctions. Authorities allege Binance concealed operations despite its significant presence in Nigeria.
