  • BREAKING: ICPC Storms IHS Towers Abuja, Seizes Devices and Restricts Amnesty International Staff

Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday reportedly stormed the IHS Towers office in Wuse 2, Abuja, disrupting a World Human Rights Day presentation by Amnesty International personnel. Witnesses said the officers confiscated over 40 mobile phones, laptops, and smartwatches while preventing staff from leaving or entering the building. Some Amnesty International workers were allegedly held inside as ICPC operatives threatened to shoot anyone attempting to exit. • Amnesty International Condemns Deadly Gunmen Attack on Anambra Church, Demands Probe of Security Failures

Amnesty International has condemned the gruesome attack on St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lilu, Anambra State, where armed men killed the cleric’s wife and another victim during a Sunday invasion. The rights group urged authorities to launch a transparent, impartial investigation into the killings and the security lapses that allowed the attack, noting that a government-deployed security base was located within the church premises. Amnesty further warned that rising violent activities by armed groups across the South-East have turned several communities into ungoverned spaces, stressing that federal and state governments must prioritise civilian protection and dismantle criminal networks.

  • At Least 65 Killed Across Nigeria This Week, Amnesty International Condemns Govt Inaction

Amnesty International says Nigerians are being abandoned to “rampaging gunmen” after at least 65 people were killed in violent attacks across the country this week.

In a statement on Friday, the rights group faulted Nigerian authorities for failing to protect lives and property, calling it “an utter failure of responsibility.”

According to Amnesty, over 50 worshippers were killed and 60 abducted during a mosque attack in Katsina, while 15 farmers were slaughtered in Plateau’s Mangu LGA, displacing more than 200 residents.

“Incessant killings and the stunning failure of authorities to end them or bring perpetrators to justice remain a grave threat to the right to life,” Amnesty said, stressing that Nigerians do not deserve to live in constant fear.

The organisation reminded the government of its obligation under international law, regional treaties, and Nigeria’s constitution to protect all citizens equally.
