• US special forces have arrived in the United Kingdom as Washington moves to intercept a sanctioned oil tanker accused of evading the Trump administration’s blockade on Venezuelan crude and racing toward Russia.

Cargo aircraft carrying helicopters and personnel landed at RAF Fairford, as US and allied forces stage for a possible high-risk boarding operation against the tanker Marinera, formerly known as Bella 1.

The vessel, described by US officials as part of a “shadow fleet” used to bypass international sanctions, is believed to be operating under a Russian flag in the North Atlantic, roughly 500 miles west of Ireland, en route to Russia.

Troops from America’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known as the Night Stalkers, have reportedly deployed Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters capable of fast-roping commandos onto large vessels. Three V-22 Ospreys operating out of RAF Mildenhall have also joined the mission, alongside surveillance aircraft and refuelling jets.

US and UK military activity intensified after the tanker was tracked resurfacing at sea, having previously slipped away from US forces in the Caribbean following Donald Trump’s announcement of a “total and complete blockade” on Venezuelan oil exports.

The tanker is alleged to be linked to Iran and accused of helping sanctioned regimes, including those of Vladimir Putin and Nicolás Maduro, continue oil trading despite restrictions. During the pursuit, the crew reportedly painted a Russian flag on the hull and later re-registered the ship under a new name in Russia.

Defence sources said the build-up at RAF Fairford indicates preparations for a hostile boarding, while naval patrol aircraft continue to monitor the tanker’s movements.

US officials told American media that the preference is to seize the tanker rather than sink it, mirroring a helicopter-borne raid carried out last month on another sanctioned vessel. A decision on whether to proceed with the operation is expected within days.

  • U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders Slams Trump’s Military Action in Venezuela as Illegal, Unconstitutional and Dangerous Violation of International Law

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has strongly condemned President Donald Trump’s military action in Venezuela, describing it as illegal, unconstitutional, and a blatant violation of international law. In a statement issued on January 4, 2026, the Vermont senator accused Trump of overstepping his authority as commander-in-chief and showing “contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law” by launching military operations without congressional approval.

Sanders stressed that the U.S. president does not have the constitutional right to unilaterally take the country to war, even against what he described as a corrupt and brutal dictator like Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. He also rejected Trump’s claim that the United States has the right to “run” Venezuela, insisting that such rhetoric reflects dangerous imperial thinking.

Calling on Congress to act urgently, Sanders urged lawmakers to pass a War Powers Resolution to immediately end what he termed an illegal military operation and to reassert Congress’s constitutional responsibilities. He warned that the attack would have far-reaching global consequences, making both the United States and the world less safe, and setting a dangerous precedent in international relations.

Sanders compared Trump’s justification for the Venezuela action to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, arguing that it mirrors the same “logic of force” used by President Vladimir Putin. He further accused the Trump administration of reviving imperial ambitions in Latin America, citing references to the Monroe Doctrine and alleged interest in controlling Venezuela’s vast oil reserves, which he described as “rank imperialism.”

Turning to domestic concerns, Sanders criticised Trump for focusing on foreign military adventures while major problems persist at home, including economic hardship, a struggling healthcare system, housing unaffordability, and job threats posed by artificial intelligence. He concluded that Trump was failing in his responsibility to govern the United States, stating that the president should focus on domestic crises rather than attempting to “run” Venezuela.

  • PDP Heads to Court as INEC Excludes Oluwole Oluyede From 2026 Ekiti Governorship List, Accuses Electoral Body of Bias and Partisanship

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to seek legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the exclusion of its candidate, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, from the official list of contestants for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election. In a statement issued on December 30, 2025, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, described INEC’s action as further evidence of bias against the opposition party. The PDP maintained that INEC was duly notified of its governorship primaries, monitored the exercise, and issued reports confirming that the process complied with all legal requirements. The party also alleged that INEC initially provided nomination portal access codes before later blocking them close to the submission deadline, forcing a manual submission that was officially acknowledged. According to the PDP, there was no court order or formal challenge disputing Oluyede’s nomination, making his exclusion unjustified. The party argued that the safest and most lawful step would have been for INEC to include its candidate’s name pending any legal disputes. Warning that perceived partiality could undermine democratic credibility, the PDP said it had already begun legal proceedings to compel INEC to recognise its candidate and uphold electoral neutrality ahead of the 2026 polls.

  • BREAKING: Pastor Chris Okafor Publicly Apologises to Actress Doris Ogala, Kneels Before Church Amid Marriage Dispute and Police Arrest Controversy

Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries has publicly apologised to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala following a heated marriage dispute that led to her arrest and eventual release by the Nigeria Police. The apology was delivered during a livestream, where Okafor admitted mistakes, expressed remorse to Ogala and others he may have offended, and stated his willingness to make restitution, while still disputing several allegations against him. The controversy stemmed from Ogala’s claims that the cleric reneged on a promise to marry her, resulting in emotional and financial damages, including an alleged N45 million transfer. The situation escalated with her arrest, re-arrest in Abuja, and transfer to Lagos before her release after interventions by activists and police authorities. Okafor later reportedly knelt before Ogala during a closed-door meeting at the Zone 2 Police Command, appealing for peace and reconciliation as the dispute continues to draw national attention.

  • The U.S. National Intelligence believes Russia is not planning to invade Europe

Director Tulsi Gabbard said that reports about such plans are “lies and propaganda.”

She made the statement while commenting on a Reuters publication that cited data from the U.S. intelligence community.

Tulsi Gabbard is known for her openly expressed sympathies toward Russia and her support for conspiracy theories.

According to Gabbard, Russia is instead trying to avoid a direct conflict with NATO. She accused the media and their sources of attempting to scare the public and sabotage Donald Trump’s efforts to resolve the war.

Gabbard claims that this “false narrative” benefits those who want escalation and the direct involvement of the United States in a war with Russia.

Against this backdrop, Moscow continues to insist on its own terms. Putin has made it clear that he will not end the war until his maximalist demands are met.

  • Ring Mouse: The Future of Clicks and Control

Technology keeps getting smaller — and smarter. The latest example? The ring mouse — a tiny wearable that lets you control your computer or phone right from your finger.

Instead of moving a traditional mouse or touching a trackpad, the ring mouse uses motion sensors, Bluetooth, and gesture control to track your hand movements. That means you can scroll, click, or navigate just by moving your finger in the air or over a surface.

    How It Works

Most ring mice connect wirelessly to your device. Tiny sensors inside the ring detect movement, while touch or gesture commands replace the regular left and right clicks. Some advanced models even turn any flat surface into a touchpad — no mouse pad needed!

    Why It’s Innovative
    • Portable & Lightweight: Fits on your finger like jewelry.
    • No Desk Needed: Works in mid-air or on any surface.
    • Perfect for Presentations: Move slides, control your screen, or scroll through notes from a distance.
    • Great for AR/VR: Makes sense for a hands-free future.

    Challenges Ahead

Battery life, precision, and comfort are still being improved. Because the ring is small, it has limited power and can feel awkward during long use. But new versions, like the AI-powered Padrone Ring and AirPoint Ring, are making big strides in performance and design.

The Future of Ring Mouse Tech

As computing shifts toward wearables and augmented reality, ring mice could become an everyday tool — blending fashion and function. In a few years, you might control your laptop, smart TV, or headset just with a wave of your hand.

In short: the ring mouse is more than a gadget — it’s a glimpse of how we’ll interact with technology in the near future.

  • Meta Unveils Next-Gen AI Glasses With Built-In Displays

Meta has expanded its smart eyewear lineup, unveiling new Ray-Ban and Oakley glasses that integrate artificial intelligence and augmented reality features, as the company continues its push toward the metaverse.

At the annual Meta Connect conference in Menlo Park, CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the Ray-Ban Display, billed as the company’s most advanced AI glasses yet. The device features built-in screens that project messages, photos, and apps directly into the wearer’s field of vision. It is paired with “neural bands” — sensor-equipped wristbands that allow users to control the glasses with subtle hand and finger gestures. The glasses will retail at $799.

“Our goal is to build great-looking glasses that deliver personal superintelligence and a feeling of presence using realistic holograms,” Zuckerberg said, describing AI glasses as the “next major computing platform” set to replace smartphones.

Meta also launched Oakley Meta Vanguard, performance-focused smart glasses designed for sports and fitness. Priced at $499, they include an action-ready camera, fitness app integration, and immersive audio.

Meanwhile, updated Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses — starting at $379 — expand on Meta’s partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of Ray-Ban and Oakley. The glasses, already the world’s best-selling AI eyewear, now feature real-time translation, hands-free cameras, and AI-powered digital assistant functions.

Despite these innovations, Meta’s Reality Labs division continues to operate at a loss. It posted a $4.5 billion loss in Q2 2025 on revenues of just $370 million. Analysts say the push into AI eyewear is less about short-term profits and more about positioning Meta to break free from reliance on Apple and Google’s smartphone ecosystems.

The global smart glasses market, valued at nearly $2 billion in 2024, is projected to grow more than fourfold by the end of the decade, according to Grand View Research.

“AI glasses connect us to real-world superpowers as we move throughout the day, tapping into a wealth of information while staying present in the moment,” Meta said in a statement.

  • Again, Naira Marley Denies Involvement In Mohbad’s Death, Calls For Fresh Probe

Marlian Records boss, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has again distanced himself from allegations linking him to the death of Afrobeats star Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad), who died on September 12, 2023.

In a one-hour video released Tuesday, Marley said he was in Amsterdam when Mohbad died and only learnt of the tragedy via social media. He noted that his passport proves his absence, insisting police wrongly targeted him and associate Sam Larry instead of those who were with Mohbad in his final hours.

Mohbad’s death sparked nationwide protests and vigils, with his family still disputing toxicology results and demanding an independent review.

Marley accused blogs of pushing false narratives against him, stressing that he never had time to grieve. He also called for a fresh, impartial investigation, urging police to “arrest everybody again” under credible oversight.

On financial disputes, Marley maintained that Mohbad had a 50-50 profit-sharing deal with Marlian Records, dismissing claims of exploitation. He further alleged that the late singer battled drug use, paranoia, and suicidal tendencies, which were often misinterpreted as label oppression.

  • Russians Welcome Idea Of Putin–Zelensky Meeting

Many Russians have welcomed the prospect of direct talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, announced by US President Donald Trump after meeting both leaders last week.

It would be their first face-to-face meeting in nearly six years, following the collapse of diplomatic ties after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Some citizens expressed hope the talks could end the war, while others remained sceptical, doubting any peace breakthrough. Russia currently occupies about one-fifth of Ukraine, including Crimea and parts of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.

  • Trump Gives Putin ‘Peace Letter’ From Melania at Alaska Summit

US President Donald Trump presented Russian President Vladimir Putin with a letter from First Lady Melania Trump during their Alaska summit. The handwritten note, described as a “peace letter,” urged Putin to pursue peace “in the name of children.”

According to Fox News, Putin read the letter immediately as both delegations looked on. Without mentioning Ukraine directly, Melania appealed: “Mr Putin, you can singlehandedly restore their melodic laughter… In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone — you serve humanity itself.”

The gesture came after Trump warned of “severe consequences” if Russia refused a ceasefire but later softened his stance, saying the path forward was “a direct peace agreement” rather than a ceasefire.

The Alaska summit ended without a breakthrough, though Trump framed the exchange as a symbolic step toward ending the war.
