PHOTOS: Suspended Rivers Governor Fubara Visits President Tinubu in Lagos

Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday, marking a significant development amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
The visit comes months after President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly over a deepening political standoff. The crisis, rooted in a power struggle between Fubara and his predecessor, current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has fractured the state’s political landscape—splitting the Assembly into rival factions loyal to either leader.
Photos from the meeting were shared by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who posted them on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers, now on suspension from office, visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday.”
While the purpose and outcome of the closed-door meeting remain undisclosed, it comes against the backdrop of Tinubu’s controversial decision on March 18 to declare a state of emergency in Rivers. At the time, the President suspended Fubara, Odu, and the state lawmakers for six months and appointed retired naval officer Ibok-Ette Ibas as the state’s sole administrator.
Tinubu defended the drastic measure, citing persistent insecurity, failed reconciliation efforts, and recent pipeline explosions, emphasizing that the situation demanded “extraordinary steps” to restore order and governance.
“Given the severity of the crisis, no responsible President would stand by without taking constitutional steps to address the situation and safeguard peace, order, and security,” Tinubu stated at the time.
Despite his suspension, Fubara has publicly called for peace and reconciliation. He has continued to express willingness to mend ties with Wike, referring to him as his "political boss."
