Fubara: No Sacrifice Too Great for Peace in Rivers State

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reaffirmed his commitment to peace, stating that no sacrifice is too big for the stability and progress of the state.

Speaking to supporters in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Fubara addressed the recent reconciliation with his predecessor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, stressing that the peace deal was in the collective interest of the people, despite the disappointment felt by many loyalists.

He acknowledged the emotional toll the decision has taken on his supporters but maintained that “difficult times demand difficult choices.” The governor clarified that the reconciliation was not made in isolation, as key stakeholders and political allies were consulted throughout the process.

Fubara admitted that the new political landscape may be hard to accept, particularly for those who stood with him during the crisis, but emphasized that peace and stability remain the overriding goals.

The governor also lamented the negative impact of the political conflict on governance, noting that several development projects had stalled. However, he expressed optimism that with tensions easing, project execution would soon accelerate.

He recognized Wike’s role in his political rise, stating that the history between them cannot be erased. Fubara urged his supporters to remain loyal and trust his leadership, even when short-term rewards seem unclear.

Reiterating his dedication to peace, the governor revealed that President Bola Tinubu personally intervened and mandated the reconciliation for the good of Rivers State.

In a heartfelt appeal, Fubara called on all supporters to embrace peace, unity, and cooperation to help the state move forward.
