“Political Class Behind Boko Haram” – Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Alleges Plot to Destabilize Tinubu’s Government
In a startling revelation, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has accused certain members of Nigeria’s political elite of sponsoring Boko Haram insurgents to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ program, Kalu asserted that terrorism is being used as a political tool to destabilize the current government, similar to tactics employed against previous administrations.
Kalu elaborated that the insecurity plaguing Nigeria is politically induced, driven by individuals seeking to hijack political power. He identified politicians, wealthy businesspeople, and senior civil servants as those fueling Boko Haram, not for financial gain but to gain control.
The senator’s allegations come amid renewed concerns over Boko Haram’s activities, including recent attacks in Borno State. Kalu called for unity and patriotism among Nigerians, urging citizens to prioritize national interest over selfish political agendas.

This development was announced in a statement released on Monday by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Barrister Gebon T. Kataps.
The process is set to commence on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, with appointees directed to report to the Political Department at the SGS office to collect their appointment letters and complete necessary documentation.

Edo Community Bans Beef Sales Amid Rising Insecurity
In a bold move to protest escalating violence, residents of Elelu village in Erah community, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, have banned the sale and consumption of beef. This decision comes in response to a series of kidnappings and killings allegedly perpetrated by suspected herdsmen.
During a recent protest, community members, including elders, youths, and vigilante leaders, expressed their anguish over the loss of lives and the disruption of their livelihoods. They reported that in the past two weeks alone, seven individuals had been kidnapped and killed, with one person still in captivity. The protesters threatened to relocate to the Edo State Government House if immediate action is not taken to address the security challenges.
Fred Enaikhe Aleburu, a community spokesperson, highlighted the sacrifices made by local defenders, stating, “These courageous men stood against armed herdsmen who had brought terror to the peaceful land. They shielded our mothers, our children, and our farmlands and for their sacrifice, they were murdered in cold blood.”
The community’s demands include the establishment of permanent security checkpoints, a comprehensive flushing of forests to eliminate terrorist elements, and emergency interventions to address food insecurity. They also called for sustained security presence to ensure long-term peace and protection.
By banning beef, the residents aim to sever economic ties with those they believe are responsible for their suffering, sending a clear message that their lives and safety are non-negotiable.

Wike Accuses Amaechi of Power Hunger Amid Coalition Talks
In a sharp political exchange, Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has accused his former ally, Rotimi Amaechi, of seeking power out of personal hunger. Wike's remarks come as Amaechi, along with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, is reportedly forming a coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Wike criticized the coalition's motivations, suggesting that the leaders involved are driven by selfish interests rather than a genuine desire to serve the public. He questioned why Atiku is focusing on coalition-building instead of revitalizing the People's Democratic Party (PDP), implying that the party is not prepared for the upcoming election .
Peoples Gazette Nigeria
This development adds to the ongoing political realignment in Nigeria as the 2027 elections approach. The formation of this coalition, if confirmed, could significantly impact the political landscape, potentially challenging the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.

“No Sin in Borrowing”: Presidency Defends Nigeria’s Debt Strategy
In a recent statement, the Nigerian Presidency has asserted that borrowing is a necessary instrument for driving economic development. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, emphasized that when loans are utilized responsibly, borrowing should not be viewed negatively. He stated, “It is not a sin to borrow. Even developed nations like the United States of America and the United Kingdom borrow beyond their GDP. The issue is not borrowing; it is what you do with the borrowed funds.”
This clarification comes amid discussions surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s recent request to the National Assembly for approval of fresh external and domestic loans amounting to ₦34.15 trillion. The administration maintains that such borrowing is essential for funding large-scale development projects, such as highways and infrastructure, which are pivotal for economic growth.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has previously echoed similar sentiments, stating that borrowing is part of fiscal responsibility. CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele noted, “Debt is never a crime or a sin. The private entity also borrows to survive. What matters most is the debt’s quantum and the debt usage.”
However, concerns persist regarding Nigeria’s rising debt profile and the nation’s ability to service these debts. Critics argue that while borrowing can be a tool for development, it must be managed prudently to avoid long-term economic challenges.
