In response to widespread speculation and online buzz, the Department of State Services (DSS) has officially debunked rumors of an impending arrest of renowned political economist Prof. Pat Utomi and other individuals linked to the so-called “shadow government” movement.
Speaking through its spokesperson, Dr. Peter Afunanya, the DSS made it clear that there is “no truth whatsoever” to the allegations suggesting that Prof. Utomi or any civil society figures are under surveillance or targeted for detention.
“The DSS is focused on national security, not political distraction. There is no plan to arrest Prof. Pat Utomi or anyone promoting ideas of governance through democratic means,” the statement emphasized.
This clarification follows increased media attention and public discourse around Prof. Utomi’s recent advocacy for alternative governance models and increased civic participation — sparking rumors of a potential clampdown.
The DSS stressed its commitment to upholding democratic values while cautioning against the spread of fake news and inciting narratives that could destabilize the political climate.
