IPOB Demands International Inquiry Into South-East Insecurity, Accuses Nigerian Government, Military Of Covering Up Killings And Scapegoating Group

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called for an independent, internationally supervised public inquiry into the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria’s South-East, accusing the Nigerian government and the military of concealing the truth behind violence in the region. In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the separatist group criticised comments attributed to Major General Michael Onoja, dismissing them as “recycled propaganda” and challenging authorities to subject their claims to open, global scrutiny.

IPOB questioned why the government has consistently refused calls for a judge-led inquiry if it is confident in its narrative, insisting that evidence should be presented publicly under oath with international oversight. The group reacted to Onoja’s reported claim that insecurity in the South-East had significantly reduced following the imprisonment of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu and separatist agitator Simon Ekpa, which the military said weakened criminal networks in the region.

Rejecting this position, IPOB said it has “nothing to hide” and urged international bodies such as the United Nations, African Union, European Union and the United States to support an independent commission of inquiry. NITDA Director-General Kashifu Abdullahi has raised alarm over the increasing weaponisation of social media in Nigeria after major tech platforms deactivated more than 28 million abusive accounts linked largely to Nigerian online actors over the past year.

Speaking at a crisis communication symposium in Abuja, Abdullahi revealed that:

Google shut down 9.6 million accounts

LinkedIn removed nearly 16 million accounts — a figure he described as “outrageous” for a professional platform

TikTok carried out millions of additional bans

These accounts were linked to fraud, impersonation, disinformation, and harmful content. In addition, tech platforms took down over 58.9 million harmful posts, while 420,000 were restored after review.

Abdullahi said the crackdown reflects growing cooperation between Nigeria and global tech companies to curb scams, extremist propaganda, coordinated misinformation, and digital abuse. However, he cautioned that takedown systems must not be exploited by governments to silence critics or suppress minority voices, stressing the need for transparent, rights-based content moderation.

Speaking for the Minister of Information, Voice of Nigeria DG Jibrin Ndace warned that emerging technologies should strengthen—not inflame—public communication during crises, as narratives now powerfully shape national stability.

Centre for Crisis Communication Chairman Maj-Gen Chris Olukolade (rtd.) added that effective crisis communication is now a national security asset, noting that emergencies unfold at the speed of social media and require rapid, credible institutional responses.

The disclosures come amid growing concerns over cybercrime, impersonation networks targeting professionals, and the rising use of social platforms for propaganda, scams, and misinformation in Nigeria.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has denied claims by the Imo State Government that it is planning widespread power outages to sabotage the state’s Light Up Imo electricity project and the new Orashi Electricity Company.

Imo’s Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, alleged that the government received intelligence that EEDC was preparing to disrupt electricity across the state.

In response, EEDC described the allegations as false, baseless, and misleading, accusing the Imo government of spreading propaganda and showing long-standing hostility toward the company.

According to Punch, November 5, 2025, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, has accused the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Maruf Alausa, of deliberately misleading Nigerians over the Federal Government’s alleged fulfilment of agreements reached with the union. The lecturers warned that failure to address lingering issues could force the union to resume its suspended nationwide strike.

In a statement released after its congress meeting, the branch chairman, Dr. Chris Piwuna, said the minister’s recent comments suggesting that the government had met all of ASUU’s demands were “false and deceptive.” He maintained that several critical aspects of the 2020 Memorandum of Action remain unresolved, including unpaid earned academic allowances, revitalization funds, and withheld salaries during the 2022 strike period.

Piwuna argued that the government’s continuous failure to implement agreed resolutions has deepened the crisis in the education sector. He accused the minister of attempting to create public resentment against the union rather than focusing on genuine reforms. “Our members are tired of repeated promises and propaganda. What we demand is action, not empty assurances,” he said.

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has issued a stern warning to newly appointed commissioners, declaring that anyone who fails to wear the ‘Asiwaju cap’ popularly known as the Tinubu cap will be barred from attending Executive Council meetings.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, during the swearing-in of 20 new commissioners and members of various boards, Okpebholo emphasized his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, stressing that the event would not have been possible without the president’s support.

He recalled that in previous elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) struggled in Edo due to lack of backing from the presidency, but said that had changed under Tinubu’s leadership.

Osun Govt, APC Clash Over Alleged ₦300 Million Scandal Involving Female Permanent Secretary

The political atmosphere in Osun State has once again heated up as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Osun State Government trade accusations over an alleged ₦300 million corruption scandal said to involve a senior female civil servant.

In a statement released by Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, the party accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of shielding a female Permanent Secretary allegedly caught embezzling state funds.

According to the opposition, the current administration’s “administrative hollowness” has allowed some political appointees to loot public resources unchecked.

“Why is the Adeleke government, which preaches accountability and rule of law, protecting a Permanent Secretary who allegedly embezzled over ₦300 million?” the APC queried.



The APC also claimed the state government was secretly managing the issue, arranging for the accused to repay the funds instead of facing prosecution. The party urged the EFCC and Nigeria Police to intervene, alleging that the implicated civil servant is the wife of a serving commissioner in the Adeleke cabinet.

However, in a swift response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the allegations as “beer parlour gossip elevated to party propaganda,” insisting that no such scandal exists.

“There is no ₦300 million scam in any Osun government ministry or agency. Governor Adeleke runs a transparent and accountable administration,” Rasheed stated.



He accused the APC of spreading lies to distract the public, emphasizing that the state’s procurement law and due process system make such corruption “impossible.”

Rasheed further warned that the government might take legal action against those behind the “libellous” claims, reaffirming Adeleke’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

“Governor Adeleke has never and will never shield any corrupt official. Transparency remains the hallmark of his government,” he concluded.

Lagos NURTW Chairman Threatens To Punish Voters Who Reject APC In 2027, Faces DSS Interrogation.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has interrogated the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly called Sego, after he was caught on video warning that those who refuse to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 would face consequences.

In the footage from a recent NURTW meeting, Adekunle declared, “Anyone who refuses to vote for APC or who says he has decided to vote against APC will be dealt with, the person will learn a lesson. If you say you will not listen to us, we too will not agree.”

The DSS summoned him over the remarks. However, in a video released afterwards, Adekunle denied threatening anyone and claimed his words were twisted. “I was invited by the DSS, and they asked me about my statements and said someone reported me. I didn’t threaten anyone; this is propaganda. I was only talking about our union, and it’s my rivals who misinterpreted me,” he said.

His denial contrasts with the initial video in which he clearly warned voters against rejecting APC.

Concerns over voter intimidation in Lagos are not new. During the 2023 elections, SaharaReporters documented how hoodlums disrupted voting at polling unit 005 in Sangotedo, Lagos, chasing away voters. 

Earlier, then-Chairman of the Lagos State Parks Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), was filmed threatening residents, “We have begged them. If they don’t want to vote for us, it doesn’t call for a fight. Iya Chukwudi, if you don’t want to vote for us, stay at home.” The viral video drew widespread condemnation.

In September, SaharaReporters also reported that thugs allegedly backed by police officers attacked the team of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos governorship candidate. 

His photographer was hacked with a machete and left unconscious. “The people that came are thugs and they were guarded by the police; they macheted me and left me for dead. This is the height of it,” the victim recounted.
