• Zamfara State is often called a rich state because it has large deposits of gold and other valuable minerals. Gold mining takes place in areas such as Anka, Maru, Bukkuyum, and Talata Mafara, where many people extract gold from the ground.

The state is also believed to contain minerals like copper, iron ore, lead, zinc, and limestone, making it one of Nigeria’s most resource-rich regions.

However, despite this natural wealth, Zamfara State has not fully benefited from these resources due to issues like illegal mining and insecurity.

  • Terrorists Demand ₦250m, 20 Motorcycles for Release of 166 Abducted Worshippers in Kaduna

Suspected terrorists who abducted at least 166 worshippers in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State have raised their ransom demand to ₦250 million and 20 motorcycles.

The village head of Kurmin Wali, Mr. Ishaku Dan’azumi, disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking about the worsening plight of the community, days after armed men carried out one of the largest mass abductions in recent times.

According to Dan’azumi, the attack occurred on January 18, 2026, when gunmen stormed Kurmin Wali village during a religious gathering. The assailants reportedly invaded three churches in the area and abducted men, women, and youths indiscriminately before fleeing into the surrounding forest.

He said the kidnappers initially made contact with the community with a lower demand but later increased it to ₦250 million alongside 20 motorcycles, a figure far beyond the capacity of the affected families.

Residents have appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify rescue efforts, warning that the community is traumatized and living in fear as the abductees remain in captivity.

  • JOHESU Asks Nigerians To Blame FG Over Healthcare Disruption

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has urged Nigerians to hold the Federal Government responsible for the hardship being experienced across the country’s healthcare system following its ongoing strike.

According to the union, the strike became inevitable after the government failed to address longstanding demands despite several engagements. JOHESU recalled that President Bola Tinubu had, in 2023, assured the union that he would mandate the appropriate ministry, department, or agency to resolve the issues raised.

However, the union lamented that no concrete action has been taken since then, leaving health workers with no option but to withdraw their services.

JOHESU maintained that the suffering of patients and other Nigerians in need of medical attention could have been avoided if the Federal Government had honoured its commitments, stressing that responsibility for the disruption lies squarely with the authorities.

Amid his ongoing clash with Wizkid FC following his involvement in the Wizkid–Seun Kuti online feud, VDM claimed the narrative was false. In a now-deleted video, he alleged that Wizkid actually owes him money for using his catchphrase “Don’t Play” in the 2022 song Diamond from the More Love, Less Ego album. VDM said he trademarked the phrase and displayed documents to back his claim, insisting his earlier message was about compensation, not begging. The claim sparked mixed reactions online, with many fans dismissing it and criticising the outspoken commentator.

  • Tinubu Govt Withholds ₦131.5bn Osun LG Funds for 10 Months Despite Supreme Court Ruling

The Tinubu-led Federal Government has allegedly withheld ₦131.5 billion in local government allocations meant for Osun State for 10 months, despite a Supreme Court ruling declaring such action unlawful.

A review of FAAC data from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation shows that the unpaid funds cover the period from March to December 2025. The money was meant for Osun’s local governments to provide basic services at the grassroots.

Observers say the continued withholding of the funds has crippled local governance and raises serious concerns about respect for the rule of law.
