Omah lay Reacts to Grammy Nomination, Says He Doesn’t Care About Awards But Wants Win for Davido.
Nigerian singer Omah Lay has shared his thoughts following his first-ever Grammy nomination, expressing gratitude while emphasizing that awards are not his main focus.
The ‘Soso’ crooner was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with Davido on the hit single ‘With You’. The category also features other top Nigerian stars, including Ayra Starr, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, who additionally received a nod for Best Global Music Album.
Taking to Instagram, Omah Lay admitted that while he is happy about the recognition, he personally doesn’t attach much importance to awards. Instead, he said he genuinely hopes Davido wins, describing the Afrobeats icon as “the realest friend” who supported him during difficult times.
“I’m excited about this Grammy nomination haha but honestly, I don’t care much about awards,” he wrote. “But I really want it for OBO! He’s the realest friend I’ve had in a while — he stood by me during my hardest times.”
The nomination also marks another major moment for Davido, who, despite multiple nominations, is yet to win a Grammy. His chances this year appear promising following his appointment as a voting member of the Recording Academy.
The 2026 Grammy Awards are set to take place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, and will air live on CBS as well as stream on Paramount+.
