Israel Halts Gaza Aid, Launches New Strikes After Accusing Hamas Of Violating Ceasefire.
Israel has launched a new wave of air strikes in southern Gaza and suspended humanitarian aid deliveries into the territory, accusing Hamas of carrying out attacks in “blatant violation” of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
An Israeli military spokesperson confirmed late Sunday that the strikes targeted what the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) described as “terrorist infrastructure” in Rafah and other parts of southern Gaza.
“Hamas carried out multiple attacks against Israeli forces beyond the yellow line, the area our troops have withdrawn to in accordance with phase one of the US-brokered deal,” the spokesperson said.
“This is a bold violation of the ceasefire, and we will respond firmly.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly ordered defence and security officials to “act forcefully against terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip.”
In a swift response, Hamas denied any involvement in the alleged attacks and accused Israel of breaking the agreement.
“We affirm our full commitment to implementing everything that was agreed upon, foremost among which is the ceasefire in all areas of the Gaza Strip,” Hamas said in a statement.
“We are unaware of any events or clashes taking place in the Rafah area… Contact with our remaining groups there has been cut off since the resumption of war in March of this year.”Israel Halts Gaza Aid, Launches New Strikes After Accusing Hamas Of Violating Ceasefire. Venezuela’s Maria Corina Machado Wins Nobel Peace Prize, Beating President Trump’s Speculated Bid.
Venezuelan opposition leader and pro-democracy activist Maria Corina Machado has been awarded the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on Friday.
Machado was recognised for her “tireless efforts in advancing democratic rights for Venezuelans and her unwavering struggle for a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy,” said Jorgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Nobel Committee, in Oslo.
The committee praised her courage, noting that despite being forced into hiding, she chose to remain in Venezuela, a decision that has “inspired millions.” It added, “Democracy survives because of those who refuse to stay silent, even when the risks are grave.”
There had been speculation that former U.S. President Donald Trump might receive the prize, following his role in brokering a Gaza ceasefire deal earlier this week. Trump had previously claimed credit for “stopping seven wars,” though his assertions have been widely disputed.
Speaking at the UN last month, Trump remarked, “Everyone says I should get the Nobel Peace Prize,” while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed in July that he had nominated the former president.
However, Nina Graeger, director of the Peace Research Institute Oslo, told Sky News that the Gaza agreement likely came too late for consideration this year. She noted that if the deal results in lasting peace, it could strengthen Trump’s chances for next year’s award.
The Nobel Committee described Machado, 58, as “one of the most extraordinary examples of civilian courage in Latin America in recent times.” Although barred from contesting Venezuela’s last presidential election, she threw her support behind opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez.Venezuela’s Maria Corina Machado Wins Nobel Peace Prize, Beating President Trump’s Speculated Bid. Israel PM Offers ‘Phased’ Withdrawal If Lebanon Disarms Hezbollah
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel is ready to support Lebanon’s efforts to disarm Hezbollah, offering a “phased” troop withdrawal if Beirut follows through on its disarmament plan.
The pledge comes after Lebanon tasked its army with dismantling Hezbollah’s arsenal by year-end, following last year’s war and a ceasefire in November. Despite this, Israel has continued airstrikes and maintains occupation of five strategic areas in southern Lebanon.
Netanyahu said Israel would coordinate with a US-led security mechanism for a gradual military pullback if progress is made.
Hezbollah, weakened by the conflict, has vowed to resist the government’s disarmament move. Meanwhile, the UN Security Council is set to vote on extending the peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon until August 2026.

News Brief: Netanyahu Defends New Gaza Offensive as ‘Best Way to End the War’
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has unveiled a new plan to expand military operations in Gaza, targeting the last Hamas strongholds in Gaza City and the central camps. He said the operation, to be carried out on a “short timetable,” is the “best way to end the war speedily.”
The move comes amid deep domestic division, with thousands protesting in Tel Aviv, some demanding a ceasefire and hostage deal, while far-right cabinet members push for a harsher campaign. Netanyahu insists the aim is not to occupy Gaza but to set up a civilian administration unaffiliated with Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.
The UN has warned the plan could worsen Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, where over 61,000 people have been killed since the war began.

You Can Keep Hiding in Bunkers in Tel Aviv—For as Long as Necessary, We Will Continue to Strike"Iran.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Israeli officials of hiding in Tel Aviv bunkers amid rising tensions in a statement that was disseminated by Al Jazeera. Additionally, he called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "war criminal" who is obstructing diplomatic talks with war.
Araghchi claimed in a post on Telegram that Iran is launching military strikes to defend its citizens while Israel's leadership is in hiding. Israeli cities like Tel Aviv have been the target of missile strikes as the attacks have gotten more severe. Recently, at least two people were killed when a missile struck a residential tower in Petah Tikva, causing it to explode inside a bunker.
The security of Israeli bunkers, which have long been thought to be reliable, is now seriously questioned in light of this incident. According to a survey conducted by Israel Hayom, nearly 40% of Tel Aviv residents reside in homes without shelters that meet current safety standards.
Many older buildings lack adequate protective spaces, and some residents have reportedly been refused access to shelters that are already full.
The Iranian military has warned that no bunker in Israel is safe and has ordered the evacuation of Israel's civilian population. This has caused a great deal of concern and criticism in Israeli society. Although bomb shelter construction has been required by Israeli law since 1951, the current missile threat is highlighting serious flaws in the system.
According to Araghchi, a phone call from the US could put a stop to Netanyahu's actions and reopen diplomatic talks. He emphasised that Iran will continue to defend itself completely if necessary, even though the country is not eager for more violence. You Can Keep Hiding in Bunkers in Tel Aviv—For as Long as Necessary, We Will Continue to Strike"Iran.
