  • Is Trump Becoming the Next “Fallen Despot”? Why Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei Compared Him to Pharaoh, Nimrod and the Shah Amid Rising U.S.–Iran Tensions

Is Donald Trump being cast as the next ruler destined for historical downfall? Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has launched a sharp ideological attack on the U.S. president, accusing him of “tyrannical” leadership and warning that, like infamous rulers of the past, he too could ultimately fall from power.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Khamenei condemned what he described as Trump’s habit of judging the world with arrogance, arguing that history offers repeated lessons about leaders who rule through hubris. Drawing striking parallels, the Iranian leader invoked figures such as Pharaoh, Nimrod, and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi—rulers who, he said, collapsed at the height of their authority after overreaching their power.

“The US President who judges arrogantly about the whole world should know that tyrants and arrogant rulers of the world… saw their downfall when they were at the peak of their hubris. He too will fall,” Khamenei wrote. The message framed Trump not merely as a political rival, but as part of a long lineage of leaders whose dominance, according to Khamenei, eventually gave way to decline.

The comments come amid deepening hostility between Tehran and Washington, defined by sanctions, military posturing, and public exchanges between senior officials. Khamenei, Iran’s highest authority, has consistently portrayed U.S. foreign policy as imperialistic, often embedding his criticisms within historical and religious narratives aimed at reinforcing Iran’s resistance ideology.

Tensions intensified further following reports that Trump praised Israeli military strikes on Iran in June 2025. According to ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl, Trump described the attack as “excellent,” adding that Iran had been given a chance to change course but failed to do so—and warning that “there’s more to come, a lot more.” His remarks coincided with a series of escalating confrontations between Israel and Iran, including strikes on Iranian territory, some reportedly reaching as far as Tehran.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks as a “blatant act of aggression,” while regional analysts warned that rhetoric from both sides risks further destabilizing an already volatile Middle East. Against this backdrop, Khamenei’s comparison of Trump to fallen despots appears not only symbolic but strategic—seeking to frame U.S. pressure as morally bankrupt and historically doomed.

The episode raises broader questions: Is Khamenei merely engaging in ideological posturing, or is Iran signaling that it sees Trump’s leadership style as unsustainable in the long run? And does invoking ancient and modern tyrants reflect a deeper effort to mobilize domestic and regional opinion against American influence?

As U.S.–Iran relations continue to harden, the clash of narratives—Trump’s warnings of force and Khamenei’s predictions of downfall—underscores how geopolitical conflict today is fought not only with sanctions and weapons, but with history, symbolism, and the power of storytelling. Whether Trump’s approach will reinforce U.S. dominance or mirror the fate of leaders Khamenei cited remains a question shaping global attention.

  • US special forces have arrived in the United Kingdom as Washington moves to intercept a sanctioned oil tanker accused of evading the Trump administration’s blockade on Venezuelan crude and racing toward Russia.

Cargo aircraft carrying helicopters and personnel landed at RAF Fairford, as US and allied forces stage for a possible high-risk boarding operation against the tanker Marinera, formerly known as Bella 1.

The vessel, described by US officials as part of a “shadow fleet” used to bypass international sanctions, is believed to be operating under a Russian flag in the North Atlantic, roughly 500 miles west of Ireland, en route to Russia.

Troops from America’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known as the Night Stalkers, have reportedly deployed Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters capable of fast-roping commandos onto large vessels. Three V-22 Ospreys operating out of RAF Mildenhall have also joined the mission, alongside surveillance aircraft and refuelling jets.

US and UK military activity intensified after the tanker was tracked resurfacing at sea, having previously slipped away from US forces in the Caribbean following Donald Trump’s announcement of a “total and complete blockade” on Venezuelan oil exports.

The tanker is alleged to be linked to Iran and accused of helping sanctioned regimes, including those of Vladimir Putin and Nicolás Maduro, continue oil trading despite restrictions. During the pursuit, the crew reportedly painted a Russian flag on the hull and later re-registered the ship under a new name in Russia.

Defence sources said the build-up at RAF Fairford indicates preparations for a hostile boarding, while naval patrol aircraft continue to monitor the tanker’s movements.

US officials told American media that the preference is to seize the tanker rather than sink it, mirroring a helicopter-borne raid carried out last month on another sanctioned vessel. A decision on whether to proceed with the operation is expected within days.

  • Kano State Allocates ₦2 Billion for Generator Maintenance and Servicing in 2026 Budget Amid Nigeria’s Worsening Electricity Crisis

The Kano State Government has earmarked ₦2 billion in its 2026 budget for the servicing and maintenance of generating sets across government facilities, highlighting the state’s continued reliance on alternative power sources due to Nigeria’s unreliable electricity supply. The allocation was revealed in the 2026 appropriation document published on the Open States transparency platform owned by BudgIT and reviewed by SaharaReporters.

The spending plan comes despite recent efforts by Kano State, alongside Katsina and Jigawa states, to establish Nigeria’s first regional electricity market with an initial ₦50 billion funding commitment. Kano has also invested in independent power projects, including the 10-megawatt Tiga Hydro Power Plant, which is already producing electricity, and another six-megawatt project that was about 65 percent completed as of late 2024.

However, persistent national power challenges continue to undermine these initiatives. Nigeria’s electricity crisis deepened recently after the national grid collapsed, plunging power generation from over 2,000 megawatts to just 139.92MW within an hour and leaving most distribution companies without electricity supply. Kano was among several states that received zero allocation during the outage.

The ₦2 billion generator maintenance budget underscores the harsh reality facing many Nigerian states as they grapple with frequent grid failures and inadequate power infrastructure, mirroring similar spending patterns elsewhere, including Plateau State’s ₦400 million allocation in 2025 for the purchase of thousands of generators.

  • U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders Slams Trump’s Military Action in Venezuela as Illegal, Unconstitutional and Dangerous Violation of International Law

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has strongly condemned President Donald Trump’s military action in Venezuela, describing it as illegal, unconstitutional, and a blatant violation of international law. In a statement issued on January 4, 2026, the Vermont senator accused Trump of overstepping his authority as commander-in-chief and showing “contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law” by launching military operations without congressional approval.

Sanders stressed that the U.S. president does not have the constitutional right to unilaterally take the country to war, even against what he described as a corrupt and brutal dictator like Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. He also rejected Trump’s claim that the United States has the right to “run” Venezuela, insisting that such rhetoric reflects dangerous imperial thinking.

Calling on Congress to act urgently, Sanders urged lawmakers to pass a War Powers Resolution to immediately end what he termed an illegal military operation and to reassert Congress’s constitutional responsibilities. He warned that the attack would have far-reaching global consequences, making both the United States and the world less safe, and setting a dangerous precedent in international relations.

Sanders compared Trump’s justification for the Venezuela action to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, arguing that it mirrors the same “logic of force” used by President Vladimir Putin. He further accused the Trump administration of reviving imperial ambitions in Latin America, citing references to the Monroe Doctrine and alleged interest in controlling Venezuela’s vast oil reserves, which he described as “rank imperialism.”

Turning to domestic concerns, Sanders criticised Trump for focusing on foreign military adventures while major problems persist at home, including economic hardship, a struggling healthcare system, housing unaffordability, and job threats posed by artificial intelligence. He concluded that Trump was failing in his responsibility to govern the United States, stating that the president should focus on domestic crises rather than attempting to “run” Venezuela.

  • US Lawmaker Riley Moore Condemns ISWAP’s Fresh Threat Against Nigerian Christians After Adamawa Attack, Calls It Clear Religious Persecution

A United States lawmaker, Rep. Riley M. Moore of West Virginia, has strongly condemned a reported threat by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) against Christians in Nigeria, describing it as blatant religious persecution. Moore reacted to reports that ISWAP released an image of a Christian village in Adamawa State set ablaze, accompanied by a warning declaring Christians across Nigeria as “legitimate targets.”

In a statement shared on his official X account, Moore said the threat leaves no doubt that Christians in Nigeria are being targeted solely because of their faith. He rejected explanations that frame the violence as being driven by land disputes or climate-related factors, insisting it is persecution based on religion.

According to reports, ISWAP allegedly warned Christians to convert to Islam or face death, stating they could “spare their blood” by converting or paying the jizyah tax. Moore noted that such language mirrors tactics historically used by ISIS in other conflict zones around the world.

The congressman also praised ongoing cooperation between the United States and Nigeria in combating extremist violence, expressing support for efforts by the U.S. government to counter jihadist groups and protect vulnerable Christian communities.

Nigeria has endured years of attacks by Boko Haram and its ISWAP faction, particularly in the northeast, with rights groups repeatedly warning that Christian communities are disproportionately affected. Moore’s remarks add to growing international calls for stronger action and increased global attention to religious persecution and insecurity in Nigeria.

  • "They did it to Jonathan"- Orji Uzor Kalu reveals forces behind insecurity.

The Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has alleged that the country’s insecurity is politically orchestrated by those seeking to undermine President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday, Kalu claimed that local and international forces were hiring mercenaries to fuel the situation.

He argued that the pattern of attacks, including abductions and school closures, mirrors past election-season pressure tactics.

“What we are seeing is something that goes with elections. When we have elections, people will try to pressure the government in power, and all kinds of things will start happening,” he said.

According to him, similar situations occurred under former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying, “They did it to Jonathan. This is about 2027.”

“These people (bandits) are partially mercenaries bought by politicians… people-centred to destabilise a president who is ready to fight for our economy.

“The intelligence community knows. I am aware people are sponsoring these things to destabilise the government,” he said.

He added that foreign actors were also involved.

“The terrorists and the bandits are orchestrated by some members of international communities and local people who want to destabilise the government,” he stated.

Kalu expressed confidence in the government, saying Tinubu had cancelled engagements to focus on the crisis.

“Tinubu is having sleepless nights… Those girls will be recovered. The government is making every effort…Our service chiefs and security operatives have gone fully on duty to track them down.

“It is a challenge, but the essence of a government is to protect life and property, and we will be equal to the task,” he added.

  • Reactions Trail Peter Obi's Comments As FIFA Says Funds Given To Build Stadium Was Mismanaged.

Former governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has drawn significant public attention following his reaction to reports alleging the mismanagement of funds provided by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

The controversy erupted after footage of a sports facility, reportedly built with FIFA’s $1.2 million grant, surfaced on social media. The video quickly went viral, prompting outrage from Nigerians who questioned how such a large sum could result in a project that appeared substandard.

Many commentators described the development as another example of impunity and lack of accountability within the nation’s sporting institutions.

Reacting through a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Peter Obi expressed deep disappointment over the situation. He described the NFF’s actions as heartbreaking, saying they mirrored the entrenched corruption that has hindered national progress.

Obi emphasized that sports, a sector capable of inspiring young people and uniting the country, had once again fallen victim to mismanagement and neglect.

According to the former governor, the alleged misuse of funds meant to promote football development reflects a broader disregard for the aspirations of Nigerian youths. He noted that such actions discourage hope and undermine the potential of sports as a tool for national development and unity.

Obi, who is widely known for his advocacy for prudent financial management and transparency in governance, urged authorities to hold those responsible accountable. His comments have since generated widespread discussion across various social media platforms, with many Nigerians calling for a full investigation into how the FIFA funds were utilized.

As of the time of this report, the Nigerian Football Federation has not issued an official response to the allegations.

  • INEC Yet to Show Readiness for Credible Polls — Atiku Accuses Tinubu of Using State Power to Intimidate Opposition

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over what he described as the declining independence of Nigeria’s electoral system and the misuse of state power ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku, speaking through his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, in an interview with Punch Newspaper, accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of using government institutions, including anti-corruption agencies, to intimidate opposition leaders and force mass defections into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The Constitution provides for freedom of association. As a democrat, Atiku Abubakar will not dictate to others whom they associate with. But it is clear that the Tinubu-led APC has been using state power to coerce opposition figures,” he said.

According to Atiku, the wave of defections across political parties does not reflect genuine political conviction but rather self-preservation by politicians seeking protection and personal gain.

“All of these defectors do not have the people’s interest at heart. What they are doing is to protect their own interests,” he added.

The former Vice President emphasized that despite the ongoing political realignments, ordinary Nigerians remain the ultimate deciders of the 2027 election outcome.

“It is Nigerians — the long-suffering, impoverished citizens who can hardly feed, educate their children, or access basic healthcare — who will determine the fate of 2027. The battle line has been drawn between the forces of good and evil,” Atiku declared.

He expressed disappointment that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to demonstrate genuine commitment to reforming the electoral process, warning that without concrete improvements, the 2027 elections could mirror past irregularities.

Atiku, however, expressed optimism that the will of the people would prevail over political manipulation and state-backed coercion.

  • US offers $2,500 incentive for migrants to return to their home countries.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is reportedly developing a new program that would offer unaccompanied migrant teenagers a $2,500 incentive to voluntarily return to their countries of origin, according to a CNN report citing an internal administration memo.

Under the proposed initiative, the pilot phase would target 17-year-old migrants, with each case requiring approval from an immigration judge. The payment described as a “reintegration stipend” would be disbursed after the minor’s arrival in their home country to help them resettle.

Officials say the measure aims to reduce long-term detention costs and encourage voluntary returns. The plan mirrors an existing Trump-era program that offers $1,000 “exit bonuses” to undocumented adults who opt for self-deportation, a move the government has defended as a more cost-effective and humane approach than forced deportation.

An ICE spokesperson emphasized that the new program would be entirely voluntary, adding that it is designed to allow minors “to make an informed decision about their future.” As of October 2, about 2,100 unaccompanied children were in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.

However, immigrant rights advocates have condemned the plan, warning that financial incentives could pressure vulnerable youths into returning to unsafe or unstable conditions.

“There is no legitimate reason for the government to incentivize voluntary departure with a financial payoff,” said Neha Desai of the National Center for Youth Law.

Critics argue that the initiative undermines long-standing U.S. protections for migrant children, potentially reigniting debates over the ethics of the country’s immigration and deportation practices.

  • Alleged ICAN Exam Impersonation: Video Purportedly Shows Proxy Writing on Behalf of Taraba Finance Commissioner, Sarah Adi.

A video published on Monday appears to show a woman identified as Leavitt (Livet) Felix being confronted by exam supervisors for allegedly sitting a professional examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on behalf of Dr. Sarah Enoch Adi, Taraba State Commissioner for Finance, Budget & Economic Planning.

In the clip, the invigilators question the candidate’s identity; the woman gives her name as Leavitt Felix and, when asked who she is writing for, she mentions “Sarah Enoch Adi.” The footage was released by SaharaReporters and amplified across SaharaTV’s channels.

The report alleges that the suspect said she had been contracted by a person named “Joshua” to take the paper and that she did not personally know Dr. Adi. The exchange in the hall shows supervisors cross-checking registration details against the name Sarah Enoch Adi before escalating the matter.

Independent outlets quickly mirrored the story as the clip circulated on social media. As of press time, ICAN has opened an investigation into the viral video.

However, no formal findings have been announced, and there is no public statement from Dr. Adi or the Taraba State Government responding to the allegation. This story therefore remains alleged pending the outcome of ICAN’s probe and any law-enforcement action.

The emergence of this video has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians questioning the integrity of public officials and the examination system. Until official investigations are conducted and responses are issued by both the Commissioner and ICAN, the case remains an allegation. What is clear, however, is that the controversy has put a spotlight on the need for stronger safeguards against impersonation in professional examinations.

  • Police Nab Fake Operatives Using Car Jack as Gun to Rob SUVs in Lagos Estates.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 46-year-old Jude Onouha, the mastermind behind a criminal gang notorious for invading upscale estates and stripping high-end SUVs.

The syndicate, masquerading as security operatives, used fake uniforms and a cleverly modified Mercedes-Benz car jack resembling a firearm to deceive estate guards and gain access to gated communities.

Once inside, the gang targeted luxury vehicles such as Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, and Mercedes-Benz models, stripping them of valuable components like brainboxes, wiring systems, and side mirrors.

Police recovered the modified car jack and a “Special Force” branded face cap used in the ruse.

Onouha has confessed and is aiding detectives in tracking down other gang members.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, called on estate residents and security managers to verify the identities of anyone claiming to be a security operative before granting entry.

He emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and collaboration with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to prevent such crimes.

  • Doctor Had Sex With Nurse While Patient Was Under Anaesthetic.

According to a report by The Mirror on Thursday, September 11, 2025, a married doctor engaged in sexual activity with a nurse in an operating theatre while a patient was under anaesthetic, a medical tribunal has been told. The incident allegedly took place at Tameside Hospital in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.

Dr Suhail Anjum, 44, and the nurse referred to in the hearing as Nurse C were reportedly found in a “compromising position” by a shocked colleague. The consultant anaesthetist had asked another nurse to monitor a male patient during a procedure so he could take a comfort break. Instead, he left theatre five and went to another operating theatre, where the incident occurred.

Andrew Molloy, representing the General Medical Council (GMC), told the tribunal that Dr Anjum had been overseeing five cases in theatre five on September 16, 2013, and left during the third operation. Shortly afterward, Nurse NT entered theatre eight and found Dr Anjum and Nurse C engaged in sexual activity.

“She described seeing Nurse C with her trousers around her knees and underwear visible, while Dr Anjum was adjusting his own clothing,” Mr Molloy said. “Nurse NT was shocked and quickly left the theatre.”

Dr Anjum returned to theatre five after approximately eight minutes. No harm came to the patient, and the procedure continued without further incident. Nurse NT reported the matter to her line manager.

Before the case reached the GMC, Dr Anjum admitted to the facts, acknowledging that he had engaged in sexual activity with Nurse C and that his actions could have placed the patient at risk. At the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service hearing, he confirmed that he left Tameside Hospital in February 2024 and had returned to Pakistan, but expressed a desire to resume his career in the UK. He insisted the incident was a “one-off error of judgment” that would not be repeated.

Giving evidence, Dr Anjum described the incident as “shameful” and took responsibility for letting down his patient, colleagues, and the hospital trust. He acknowledged placing Nurse NT in an “awkward position” and apologised for the potential risk to the patient.

Dr Anjum attributed the lapse in judgment to stress in his personal life, following the premature birth of his youngest child in January 2023. He said the traumatic experience affected his mental health and wellbeing, which contributed to his actions at work.
