• Wahala Don Set Oo! Ex-Detainee Cries Out Over Torture, Starvation, Disappearances At Imo Police Tiger Base

Wahala don truly happen for Imo State as a former detainee, Augustine Sixtus Nwaiwu, has accused the police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, known as Tiger Base, of torture, starvation and the mysterious disappearance of detainees. In a petition to the Take It Back Movement, Nwaiwu said he was arrested on September 9, 2025, without a warrant, charge or explanation and detained for 10 days without being taken to court. He alleged that officers denied him food and clean water throughout his detention, describing the treatment as cruel and inhuman. He also said the cells were overcrowded, poorly ventilated and unfit for human beings. Most disturbing, Nwaiwu claimed that three detainees collapsed from hunger and harsh conditions, were taken away, and never returned. He warned that their disappearance raises fears of extrajudicial actions. Citing the Constitution, Anti-Torture Act and other laws, he demanded an independent investigation, accountability, compensation and reforms. Human rights groups say the petition adds to growing concerns over abuses at the facility.

  • Nigerian Man Sentenced to Death in Malaysia for Killing 4-Year-Old Step-Grandson

A Malaysian High Court has sentenced 48-year-old Nigerian, Ibekwe Emeka Augustine, to death for murdering his four-year-old step-grandson by throwing the child from the third floor of an apartment in Setapak. The incident occurred on November 29, 2020, between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., during a violent episode in which Augustine also attacked other family members.

Justice K. Muniandy, who delivered the verdict, found Augustine guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. He was additionally convicted on four other charges, including attempted murder of his biological son, grievous hurt to his wife, attempted suicide, and sexual assault of his stepdaughter. For these charges, he received a 14-year prison term to run concurrently from the date of his arrest.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Zaileen Nadia Zubir described the acts as “self-induced” due to prolonged drug abuse, highlighting the child was dangled by one leg before being thrown from the window. Witnesses confirmed the brutal act, including the mother of the victim. Augustine also inflicted severe injuries on his wife, including a fractured hip.

During the trial, 22 prosecution witnesses and two defence witnesses testified. In mitigation, Augustine’s lawyer pleaded for life imprisonment, citing first-time offender status and remorse. Justice Muniandy condemned the crimes as “inhuman and despicable,” emphasizing that they occurred within a single day and persisted even after the wife attempted to intervene.

The case has drawn international attention for its brutality and underscores Malaysia’s strict enforcement of capital punishment for severe violent crimes.

  • Police Begin Screening Church and Mosque Worshippers in Borno After Maiduguri Suicide Bombing Kills Five, Injures Dozens

Security agencies in Borno State have intensified safety measures around places of worship following a deadly suicide bombing at a mosque in Maiduguri that claimed at least five lives and left dozens injured. The attack, which occurred around 6pm on Wednesday at the Al-Adum Mosque in Gamboru Market during Maghrib prayers, prompted authorities to introduce mandatory screening of worshippers entering churches and mosques across the state.

According to reports, the Borno State Police Command has deployed more than 1,000 officers across Maiduguri and other strategic locations to ensure heightened security during the Christmas season and ongoing Muslim prayers. Police spokesperson Nahum Daso confirmed that security personnel have been stationed at churches, mosques, recreational centres and other crowded areas, with worshippers now required to undergo security checks before gaining entry.

Daso explained that although security arrangements were already in place prior to the attack, the latest incident forced law enforcement agencies to further strengthen their presence and operations. He noted that the affected area was immediately cordoned off after the explosion to protect the public and allow emergency responders to carry out their duties.

The police described the operation as a joint effort involving all security and emergency response teams, stressing that full security domination would be maintained across key locations. Residents were urged to remain vigilant, be cautious of their surroundings and promptly report suspicious activities or individuals using designated emergency numbers.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric, inhumane and a desecration of the sanctity of a place of worship. He expressed sadness over the loss of lives and injuries sustained by worshippers, assuring residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to prevent further attacks during the festive period and beyond.

  • Ghana Summons Israeli Envoy, Condemns Detention of Officials and Threatens Diplomatic Retaliation

Ghana has sharply criticised Israel after seven Ghanaian travellers — including four lawmakers attending an international cybersecurity conference — were detained at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on December 7. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the treatment as discriminatory, inhumane, and a betrayal of over 60 years of diplomatic ties. While the lawmakers were released after more than five hours of interrogation, three other travellers were deported. Ghana dismissed Israel’s justification of “non-cooperation” from its embassy as false and has summoned the Israeli envoy in Accra to lodge a formal protest. The government warned that reciprocal measures affecting visas, travel, and bilateral programmes are now being considered.

  • Omoyele Sowore and Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Released After Four Days in Kuje Prison.

According to a report by Channels TV, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, representing Nnamdi Kanu, have been released from Kuje Prison after four days in detention.

Their detention followed their appearance at the Kuje Magistrate Court last week in connection with the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in the Federal Capital Territory.

On Friday, the court, presided over by Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id, granted bail to Sowore, Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel Kanu (Nnamdi Kanu’s brother), and ten others.

The defendants had been charged with unlawful assembly and disturbance of public peace.

Each was granted N500,000 bail, required two sureties residing in the FCT, valid identification, a three-year tax clearance, and the surrender of their passports.

Following their release on Monday, Ejimakor described the detention experience as “traumatic and inhumane,” criticizing the police for the excessive use of force during and after the protest.

He noted that officers deployed tear gas directly at protesters and engaged in aggressive conduct even after control had been established.

Ejimakor clarified that the protest targeted the presidency and the perceived unjust prosecution of Nnamdi Kanu, rather than the judiciary.

He argued that any withdrawal of the case by the presidency or attorney general would leave the court with no basis to proceed.

  • Protesters Defy Court Order, Vow to Storm Presidential Villa.

According to report by Punch on Monday, October 20, 2025, tensions are mounting in Abuja as security forces prepare for a possible confrontation with #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protesters, who plan to march to the Presidential Villa today (Monday) to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This comes despite an interim injunction by the Federal High Court in Abuja restricting demonstrations near sensitive government areas, including Aso Rock, the National Assembly, and Force Headquarters.

The organisers, led by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and the Take It Back Movement, have vowed to proceed with what they describe as a peaceful protest, both in Abuja and across the South-East.

Damilare Adenola, the group’s Director of Mobilisation, maintained that the march is a constitutional right and a stand against the government’s “illegal and inhumane” actions.

Kanu remains in detention facing charges of terrorism, treason, and incitement. His 2021 re-arrest in Kenya and extradition to Nigeria continue to spark legal and political debates. While critics view his detention as politically motivated, the government insists it is lawful prosecution.

The protest’s timing, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the #EndSARS demonstrations, has heightened government anxiety. Organisers, however, insist that they have informed the police and expect them to provide security rather than clamp down on protesters.

Over 115 lawyers, medical staff, and journalists have been mobilised nationwide to support the march.

The movement has received broad political support, with opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi backing calls for Kanu’s release and urging dialogue instead of repression.

  • DSS Director-General Ajayi Places ₦20million Bounty, Detains 16 Officers Over Promotion Exam Scandal Exposed.

According to insider sources, the scandal involved allegations of widespread malpractice and manipulation of the agency’s internal promotion exams.

The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, has reportedly placed a ₦20million bounty and ordered the detention of 16 DSS officers following revelations surrounding a promotion examination scandal exposed by SaharaReporters.

According to insider sources, the scandal involved allegations of widespread malpractice and manipulation of the agency’s internal promotion exams.

The exposé detailed how senior officers colluded to inflate scores, favour preferred candidates, and undermine the integrity of the process, sparking outrage both within and outside the Service.

"His main focus is to find those officers in the DSS leaking the infractions to SaharaReporters. He even sent a senior DSS officer to reach out to people he felt were close to human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, last week," a top source informed this newspaper on Saturday.

On September 8 that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) expressed outrage over what they described as the "inhumane and chaotic conditions" that characterised the agency’s recent promotion examination exercise, which reportedly led to the death of eight officers.

The tragedy occurred as many personnel were forced to fund their own travel and accommodation for the exams, with no financial support from the agency.

The situation, sources had said, created extreme hardship and anxiety, ultimately costing the lives of officers who collapsed or fell ill while struggling to meet the demands of the process.

  • Ghana Returns U.S. Deportees After Torture Lawsuit.

Eleven West African nationals who were deported to Ghana by U.S. authorities have been sent to their home countries. The group was among other deportees who arrived in Ghana earlier this month as part of a deal reached with the U.S. government

The eleven deportees had previously filed a lawsuit to stay their deportation to their home countries, citing the possibility that they could face torture, persecution, or inhumane treatment. When their case came to court on Tuesday, however, their lawyer said they had already been removed, and the suit was therefore irrelevant.

  • Woman in trouble for burning girl's private part with hot knife.

IN what can best be described as man’s inhumanity to man, a seven-year-old girl is presently writhing in pain as she receives medical attention at the emergency ward of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), following severe burns around her lower body, particularly her private parts.

The development, which occurred in Magama-Gumau, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, followed after she was reportedly brutalised by her brother’s wife, identified as Suwaira Ibrahim, who allegedly burnt her private part with a hot knife.

Reports from the area indicated that the little girl was accused of being a witch by the brother’s wife through a process yet to be explained.

A resident and activist in the area, Kabiru Mohammed Abdulkadir, narrated that: “Zuwaira’s child told her that she saw the victim, Habiba (not real name), amongst a group of witches and was taken to a man to confirm whether she really belongs to a witchcraft group.

“The man told them that she is not a witch, but Zuwaira disagreed with the confirmation. They returned home from where they went and she heated a knife on fire to burn her private part, believing that if she’s a real witch, she won’t feel pain.

“It was her loud cries that disturbed the neighbours and when we got there, we saw the situation and insisted that the case be reported to police.”

In a video clip obtained by our correspondent, the little girl’s private parts and laps were burnt and had progressed to rot.

The activist added that it was the bad odour from the wound that disturbed the whole household while she found it difficult to defecate and pass urine.

  • Deported Nigerians sue US, allege maltreatment during extradition flight to Ghana.

Three Nigerians who were recently deported from the United States and dumped in Ghana have approached a court in Washington DC to challenge their deportation.

The unnamed Nigerians and two fellow deportees from The Gambia also complained to the court about their alleged inhuman treatment during the 16hours flight from the US to Ghana.

They claimed, in the suit filed at the US District Court for the District of Columbia on Friday, that they were shackled and given only bread and water.

The suit was filed on their behalf by the Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC).

Defendants in the suit are the US Secretary of Homeland Security,Acting Director US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Attorney General and Secretary of State.

The plaintiffs who were identified only with their initials of D.A.,T.L.,I.O.,D.S., and K.S.,alleged that they were woken up in the middle of the night on Sept. 5 at a detention centre in Alexandria, Louisiana and not told where they were going until hours into the flight on a U.S. military cargo plane.

Their lawyers described the deportation as a violation of not only the due process rights of immigrants, but a circumvention of deportation restrictions placed by immigration judges who determined those immigrants could not be returned to their home country.

“Defendants know that they may not, consistent with U.S. immigration law, directly deport non-citizens to countries from which they have been granted fear-based protection,” they added.

  • Rivers Police Arrest Pastor for Flogging 20 Children for ‘Spiritual Cleansing’.

Police in Rivers State have arrested Pastor Ifediorah Onyeibor Joseph for allegedly subjecting children, including minors, to inhumane treatment.

  • Enough is enough” – Youths begin mobilization against PDP governor’s 2027 re-election bid.

A northern youth advocacy group, Arewa Youths for Democracy and Development (AYDD), has launched a scathing attack on Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, accusing him of gross underperformance and warning that his administration’s failures will not be tolerated beyond 2027.

In a statement issued in Gusau on Sunday, the group declared the beginning of a grassroots mobilization campaign to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor in the next election cycle, citing what it described as a dramatic collapse of governance under Lawal’s leadership.

Comrade Ibrahim Danladi Gwaska, president of the group said: “Enough is enough. Zamfara cannot afford another lost decade.

“What we have seen over the past two years is a tragic abdication of responsibility. Governor Lawal has failed across every key sector—security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth development.”

AYDD said the optimism that greeted Lawal’s emergence in May 2023 has quickly turned to disillusionment, accusing the administration of reversing the modest progress achieved by the previous government.

“Zamfara is far worse off today than it was before Lawal took office.

“Bandits continue to terrorize communities in Maru, Zurmi, Anka, Shinkafi, and Tsafe, and the government offers no visible strategy or protection. Rural Zamfara is burning, and the governor is silent,” Gwaska said.

The group described the state’s education system as “a disaster,” with collapsing infrastructure, unpaid teachers, and students learning in inhumane conditions.

“Primary and secondary schools in Bakura and Bungudu lack basic amenities. Children sit on bare floors, and teachers are owed salaries. Yet the governor boasts at international conferences,” Gwaska stated.

  • UNIZIK law student dies after being denied access to insulin over ₦120,000 fee.

Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, are demanding justice following the tragic death of Ajana Isabella, a law student who reportedly died after being denied urgent access to her insulin medication due to an alleged demand for payment by her hostel manager.

Ajana, who was diabetic and a resident of Elmada Hostel, was said to have suffered a medical crisis after she and her roommates lost their room key, which contained her life-saving insulin.

In a desperate attempt to retrieve the medication, the students approached the hostel mistress, identified as Madam Bright, and requested the spare key. However, according to multiple student accounts, Madam Bright allegedly refused to release the key unless the roommates paid ₦120,000 — ₦40,000 each — in line with a purported hostel policy.

Despite explaining the urgency of Ajana’s health condition and their inability to raise the money immediately, their pleas were reportedly ignored. Her condition quickly worsened, and she was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

The incident has sparked outrage across the university community. Many students described the situation as inhumane and avoidable.

“This is beyond negligence; it’s inhuman. Someone’s life was at stake, and we were told to pay ₦120,000 before she could access her medication. This death could have been avoided,” one student lamented.

The university management has confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, while the whereabouts of the hostel mistress remain unknown.

  • NYSC laments what Nigerians are doing to corpers posted to....??

What is the lot of many members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on due posting to primary places of service?
The reality may not be what some people think.

In fact, the authority of the NYSC has expressed concern over the manner in which youth corpers are being treated at the different stations of their posting.

The lamentation is coming from the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen Olakunle Nafiu, while he spoke today in Jos.

Occasion was the 2025 Annual NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop, where he was represented by NYSC Deputy Director for the North-Central Zone.

Mrs Gbamisola Salami, the, Nafiu emphasised that corps employers played a crucial role in shaping the overall experience of corps members during their service year.

He listed the unacceptable ways in which NYSC scheme or members were being treated:

delays—or outright failure—in applying for corps members,
failure to provide statutory welfare provisions,
in some cases, inhumane treatment of corps members.
“Your organisations provide a platform for corps members to apply their skills, gain practical experience, and develop their professional capacities,” he said.

Nafiu, urged employers to recognise the numerous challenges faced by corps members and to create a supportive work environment to promote well-being and productivity.

“By working together, we can ensure that the NYSC programme remains relevant, effective, and impactful in shaping the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
