A suspended member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Gideon Yisa, representing Edu constituency, has accused 21 lawmakers of allegedly swearing an oath to support the governorship ambition of the Speaker, Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, claiming the Assembly has abandoned its constitutional responsibilities.

Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Ilorin, Yisa described his suspension as illegal and politically motivated, alleging that the Assembly has failed to carry out meaningful oversight functions for more than three years despite worsening insecurity and economic challenges across the state. He said the legislature lacks any independent economic or security agenda and merely passes bills brought by the executive without scrutiny.

Yisa further claimed that lawmakers have been largely inactive, alleging that neither the Speaker nor any Assembly delegation has conducted oversight visits to his constituency since the Assembly’s inauguration. According to him, the absence of a legislative agenda has reduced lawmakers to idle activities, which he described as “gossiping,” mostly within the Speaker’s office.

Addressing his suspension, Yisa argued that it violated the Assembly’s rules, stressing that no lawmaker can be arbitrarily suspended by the Speaker. He explained that any allegation against a member must first be investigated by the Committee on Ethics and Privileges, and that even proven misconduct does not warrant a three-month suspension, noting that the maximum allowable sanction is 48 hours.

He also dismissed claims that his suspension was linked to a closed-door session, insisting that no such session has been held since the Assembly was inaugurated. Yisa reiterated that the legislature has failed in its oversight role, maintaining that while lawmakers do not execute projects, they are constitutionally mandated to monitor government actions to promote accountability and good governance in Kwara State.

Osun Govt, APC Clash Over Alleged ₦300 Million Scandal Involving Female Permanent Secretary

The political atmosphere in Osun State has once again heated up as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Osun State Government trade accusations over an alleged ₦300 million corruption scandal said to involve a senior female civil servant.

In a statement released by Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, the party accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of shielding a female Permanent Secretary allegedly caught embezzling state funds.

According to the opposition, the current administration’s “administrative hollowness” has allowed some political appointees to loot public resources unchecked.

“Why is the Adeleke government, which preaches accountability and rule of law, protecting a Permanent Secretary who allegedly embezzled over ₦300 million?” the APC queried.



The APC also claimed the state government was secretly managing the issue, arranging for the accused to repay the funds instead of facing prosecution. The party urged the EFCC and Nigeria Police to intervene, alleging that the implicated civil servant is the wife of a serving commissioner in the Adeleke cabinet.

However, in a swift response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the allegations as “beer parlour gossip elevated to party propaganda,” insisting that no such scandal exists.

“There is no ₦300 million scam in any Osun government ministry or agency. Governor Adeleke runs a transparent and accountable administration,” Rasheed stated.



He accused the APC of spreading lies to distract the public, emphasizing that the state’s procurement law and due process system make such corruption “impossible.”

Rasheed further warned that the government might take legal action against those behind the “libellous” claims, reaffirming Adeleke’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

“Governor Adeleke has never and will never shield any corrupt official. Transparency remains the hallmark of his government,” he concluded.

“The publication purporting to be an apology for the defamatory statements made against the Governor and his wife personally by Senator Ekwunife does not appear to have emanated from the Senator herself, given that her defamatory statements were made directly via recorded video and leaked audio conversation,” Opara said.

He stressed that any genuine retraction or apology must come directly from Ekwunife herself, and through the same channels where the original allegations were made.

Opara further pointed out that the purported apology failed to reference Ekwunife’s viral video and audio recordings, instead focusing on an unsigned write-up—an omission the Soludos believe indicates bad faith.

The statement also recalled that Dr. Nonye Soludo had previously challenged Ekwunife to:

1. Swear an oath of marital fidelity before the Blessed Sacrament.

2. Subject her children, alongside the Soludos’, to a DNA test to disprove the infidelity allegations.


“Any contrite apology must follow a personal and direct retraction of her defamatory statements,” Opara maintained. “Slander or libel made by an individual cannot be dismissed by proxy.”

The Soludo administration described the apology as nothing more than “unsubstantiated social media gossip”, insisting it will be disregarded until Ekwunife herself issues a clear, unambiguous retraction.
