• ASUU Seeks Wamakko’s Intervention To End Dispute With FG.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has appealed to Senator Aliyu Wamakko to intervene in its lingering dispute with the Federal Government.

Led by its National Vice President, Professor Chris Piwuna, members of the union visited Senator Wamakko at his Asokoro residence in Abuja, urging him to use his experience, credibility, and influence to help restore constructive dialogue between the union and the government.

During the meeting, ASUU emphasised that its appeal was not politically motivated but borne out of the desire to find a lasting solution to the issues that have repeatedly disrupted academic activities across the country.

Professor Piwuna noted that the continuous breakdown in communication between the two parties has deeply affected the nation’s education sector, with students and parents bearing the greatest burden.

“We are confident that Senator Wamakko’s intervention can bridge the existing gap between the Federal Government and ASUU. Our goal is to ensure stability in the university system and to prevent future disruptions that have so far hindered academic progress.”

The union outlined key expectations from the senator’s involvement, including facilitating discussions between ASUU leadership and the Federal Government, urging both parties to recommit to the implementation of past agreements, and developing a structured framework for continuous engagement to avert future crises.

ASUU also urged the lawmaker to work with relevant Senate committees and the Ministry of Education to ensure accountability in policy execution and funding commitments.

  • Aide clears Sylva of coup involvement, confirms Abuja home raid.

Mr. Timipre Sylva, Minister of State, Petroleum Resources.

PORT HARCOURT — The Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to former Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva, Chief Julius Bokoru, has dismissed rumours linking his principal to an alleged coup plot, describing them as false and politically motivated.

Bokoru stated that the former Bayelsa State governor had no connection to any coup-related activity, affirming that Sylva remains a committed democrat and supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, the rumour was the handiwork of political opponents seeking to tarnish Sylva’s image ahead of the 2027 elections.

He confirmed, however, that Sylva’s Abuja residence was recently raided by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters, during which some damage occurred.

“For the avoidance of doubt, it is true that the residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was recently subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters. During the operation, considerable damage was inflicted on the property,” Bokoru said.

He added that the reason for the raid was not communicated by the security operatives, noting that Sylva and his wife were out of the country at the time.

“As of my last communication with His Excellency, he was undergoing routine medical checks in the United Kingdom, after which he was scheduled to attend a professional conference in Malaysia,” he stated.

  • Peter Obi’s Claims On Neglect Of Ports Outside Lagos Is Incorrect’ – Ministry Of Marine

The Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has described the claims of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, that the federal government is neglecting ports outside Lagos as incorrect and misleading.

Peter Obi recently criticised the Federal Government’s approval of US$1 billion for the modernisation of the Apapa and TinCan Island seaports in Lagos.

The former Governor of Anambra State urged the Federal Government to extend port development to other parts of the country.

In a post on his 𝕏 handle, Peter Obi condemned the excessive investment in Lagos’s infrastructure.

He lamented that such actions are carried out at the expense of other strategic ports such as Warri, Port Harcourt, Calabar, and Onne.

In response, the spokesperson to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, Bolaji Akinola, in a statement on Wednesday, said the ministry welcomes constructive criticisms but argued that Peter Obi’s comments were misleading.

Akinola stated that the government is committed to modernising ports nationwide, stressing that the ministry has begun procurement for the upgrade of ports in Warri, Port Harcourt, Calabar, and Onne, alongside the ongoing modernisation of Apapa and TinCan Island ports.

The statement read, “The Federal Government is collaborating with state governments and private investors on new deep seaports in Bayelsa (Agge), Akwa Ibom (Ibom), Rivers (Bonny), and Cross River states.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community, is reportedly linked to ongoing parental pressure and comparisons with peers.

  • US bishops condemn killing of Christians, Muslims in Nigeria.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on Tuesday condemned the kidnapping and brutal killing of thousands of Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.

In a statement on the 27th anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act, the bishops also criticized the Nigerian government for imprisoning “members of both religious groups for blasphemy.”

Bishop Elias Zaidan, chairman of USCCB’s Committee on International Justice and Peace, and Bishop Kevin Rhoades, chairman of USCCB’s Committee for Religious Liberty, called for solidarity with people suffering worldwide.

Condemning instances where some governments tolerate severe violations of religious freedom, the clerics urged individuals, communities, and organizations to do their part in promoting religious liberty for all.

The American bishops added that the acts of repressing or persecuting religions are “ultimately detrimental to the peaceful development of all nations.”

Also commemorating the enactment of the IRF Act, the United States government restated its commitment to championing the unalienable right of religious freedom.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio decried how hundreds of millions of people of faith worldwide face threats of violence, imprisonment, and death for simply living out their faith.

Rubio noted that religious persecution destabilizes countries, undermines hope for peace, and attacks the core truth that faith is essential to human flourishing and a free society.

  • Senator Natasha violated Penal Code, must face Criminal Charges – FG.

The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice has insisted that the defamation charges filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan were properly instituted in line with the provisions of the Penal Code Law of Nigeria and the Constitution.

The AGF’s office stated this in its response to the senator’s preliminary objection to the three-count criminal charge pending before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Maitama, presided over by Justice Chizoba Oji.

The charges against Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, stemmed from petitions filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, following her public claims that the duo had conspired to assassinate her.

    AGF Insists Charges Are Lawful
In its counter-affidavit, the AGF’s office maintained that the decision to prosecute the senator was taken after a comprehensive investigation by the Nigeria Police Force, which reviewed all petitions from both the complainants and the defendant.

“The three counts were preferred against the defendant pursuant to the Penal Code Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in the bona fide exercise of the prosecutorial powers of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation as guaranteed under the Constitution,” the prosecution stated.

It further argued that the senator’s actions contravened provisions of the law, stressing that the case was filed “in the public interest, the interest of justice, and to prevent abuse of legal process.”

According to the AGF’s office, the charges were neither politically motivated nor an abuse of prosecutorial power.

“The criminal charge against the defendant arose from the comprehensive and conclusive investigation of the case, including all petitions and parties involved, by the Nigeria Police Force.”

  • Nigeria has a painful way of breaking the spirit of even its most hopeful citizens, turning optimists into pessimists, believers into unbelievers, and patriots into cynics.

This old video of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in London captures that tragedy perfectly. In it, he speaks passionately about a Nigeria that could work a country of peace, justice, and security. He genuinely wanted a united and prosperous nation.

But the criminals in power would not allow that vision to thrive. They saw unity and truth as threats. When he refused to be silent, they targeted him. His parents, friends, and associates were lost in the struggle; he himself was abducted, vilified, detained perpetually, and now he is undergoing a sham trial under false charges of terrorism.

Yet this very video reveals that Nnamdi Kanu never set out to destroy Nigeria; he wanted to save it. But when it became clear that the ruling elite preferred corruption and division over justice and progress, he chose the dream of a free and prosperous Biafra instead.

Ironically, the same Boko Haram elements he once denounced have now become kings, emperors, and billionaires, while a man who demanded accountability and national security remains in chains.

  • Soludo’s son Ozonna fires back at critics: I won’t change to please anyone.

Ozonna Soludo, son of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, has responded to the criticism he frequently faces from Nigerians on social media, saying he has no intention of changing who he is to satisfy anyone.

Speaking in a recent interview with content creator Goodybagg, Ozonna said that being visible and confident naturally attracts negative attention, but he remains unbothered.

I think it just kind of comes with it. Anybody that is visible and confident, you are going to get hate. I’m not going to apologise to them for not liking me; I’m going to keep being myself, he said.

I don’t do this to be liked by everyone because I have a very strong sense of myself, and I’m not willing to apologise for that. We are billions of people on the planet, and we are all different.

His remarks come weeks after he sparked debate online by joining the viral ‘What’s in your bag’ challenge, where he revealed the contents of his personal bag.

While many praised his honesty and individuality, others criticised him harshly — with some making intrusive comments about his upbringing and sexuality.

Despite the backlash, Ozonna insists he will continue to live authentically, saying he has no plans to dim his confidence for anyone’s approval.

  • US Revokes Wole Soyinka’s Visa02-APR-2024.

Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has revealed that his American visa has been revoked permanently by the United States government.

Soyinka, who disclosed this during a media parley in Lagos on Tuesday, said he received the revocation letter from the US Consulate on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Reading the letter aloud at the event themed “Unending Saga: Idi Amin In Whiteface!” held at the Freedom Park, Lagos, Soyinka suggested that the decision appeared to be linked to his long-standing criticism of the policies of US President, Donald Trump.

The letter from the US Consulate, which he read publicly, partly stated, “Dear Mr Soyinka, this letter serves as official notification of the United States Consulate that the non-immigrant visa listed below has been revoked in pursuant to the Department of State Regulations 22 CFR 41.122 and is no longer valid for application into the United States. Additional information became available after the below visa was issued. This revocation refers only to the visa listed below.

Name of visa holder: SOYINKA, WOLE
Date and place of birth: 13-JUL-1934, NIGERIA
    Visa classification(symbol): B1/B2
Date and place of visa issuance: 02-APR-2024, Lagos.”

The playwright, who resides in Nigeria, insisted that he bore no resentment over the matter.

“I will continue to welcome any American to my home if they have anything legitimate to do with me,” he said.

Soyinka stressed that his criticism of world leaders, including Donald Trump, was rooted in his role as a global citizen committed to speaking against racism, injustice, and bad governance.

It will be recalled that in December 2016, shortly after Trump’s electoral victory, Soyinka publicly tore up his US Green Card in protest, declaring his disapproval of the new administration.

Name of visa holder: SOYINKA, WOLE Date and place of birth: 13-JUL-1934, NIGERIA Visa classification(symbol): B1/B2 Date and place of visa issuance: 02-APR-2024, Lagos.” The playwright, who resides in Nigeria, insisted that he bore no resentment over the matter.

  • Ogun Govt seals Adatan market, restaurant over environmental infractions.

The Ogun State Government has sealed the Adatan Market in Abeokuta for environmental infractions and illegal roadside trading.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, Farouk Akintunde, who also doubles as the Chairman Ogun State Task Force on Environmental Compliance, made this known to journalists after an enforcement exercise on Tuesday.

Akintunde explained that Adatan Market was sealed due to traders dumping refuse indiscriminately in drainage channels and displaying goods on the walkways and drainages.

He warned that the government would no longer tolerate disregard for environmental regulations.

“Market traders across Ogun State should take ownership of drainage channels in front of their shops, desilt and clear them to prevent flooding, while they should also note that Thursday of the week has been set aside in Ogun State for markets to observe sanitation which must be strictly adhered to,” he said.

Akintunde revealed that the enforcement and eventual closure of the market followed several months of warnings and engagements with traders which they refused to yield to.

The OGEPA boss noted that the series of enforcement actions underscored the state government’s zero tolerance for environmental pollution and its renewed commitment to keeping the state clean.

Subsequently, Alaga Restaurant along Mercy road, Panseke and Cintinatti Bar in Oke-Ilewo, both in Abeokuta, were also sealed for poor management of waste water, discharged into the environment.
