Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has revealed why he resigned from his position as Nigeria’s national team manager, stating that he foresaw the challenges that later unfolded within the team’s administration.

Speaking about his time in charge of the national team, Oliseh said he decided to step down after realizing that the system was not aligned with his vision and that efforts to bring about positive change were being resisted.

“I was coaching, and at one point, I saw what is happening now coming back then. I told my friends, including Rash, that it was coming. When I saw they didn’t want to follow the right path, I said, ‘Okay, I’m resigning,’” Oliseh said.

The former captain of the Super Eagles noted that he remains the only Nigerian coach to have voluntarily resigned from the position, adding that he is still being owed two months’ salary ,amounting to $26,000 by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Oliseh also disclosed that he has been urged by many to take legal action against the NFF, but he has refused out of patriotism, insisting that he would never take his country to an international court.

“People have invited me to take Nigeria to court, but I refused. I will not take my fatherland to a western court. Even if I win, the headlines will not say ‘Oliseh takes NFF to court,’ they will say ‘Oliseh takes Nigeria to court,’” he explained.

Oliseh served as the Super Eagles head coach between 2015 and 2016 before resigning, citing unpaid wages and poor working conditions.

“That report is false. We never asked former President Jonathan to step down for Peter Obi. What transpired was that I was asked to comment on Obi’s visit to Jonathan. I explained that they share a long-standing relationship and reminded people that Obi stood by Jonathan when others betrayed him. Therefore, it is only natural for Jonathan to reciprocate Obi’s gesture. At no time did I use the words ‘beg’ or ‘step down,’” Tanko stated.

He recalled that during Jonathan’s presidency, when he faced intense opposition and eventual defeat, many political heavyweights, including Rotimi Amaechi, worked against him. However, Obi remained steadfast in his support and refused to join the opposition’s campaign to oust Jonathan.

Tanko stressed that the Obidient Movement is not pressuring Jonathan, but rather calling for fairness and mutual respect. He added that as the 2027 elections draw closer, the movement believes Jonathan should naturally consider supporting Obi in recognition of his past loyalty.

Reacting to the claims, El-Rufai said that both men, having governed their respective states, should know that four years is not sufficient to deliver meaningful reforms.

“Now, on the question of people coming out and saying, I will do one term, I don’t think anyone believes that.

“I don’t think it is right. You should not constitutionally give up what is yours. And frankly, as someone who has been governor for eight years, and Amaechi and Peter Obi have both been governors, they know the time it takes to make meaningful change in government. Four years is not enough,” he said.

The former governor added that politicians who make such pledges often change their minds once they assume office.

“So, I want to appeal to everyone to stop making these commitments of ‘I will do four years’ or ‘I will do eight years’, because nobody believes you,” he added.

My supporters from all 33 local governments started calling, asking if I had stepped down too. I told them I didn’t. But the rumor weakened my campaign,” she explained.

When asked why she refused to align with Makinde, Sarumi-Aliyu said her decision was based on personal conviction and her vision for Oyo State.

“I have my own mission. I have my own goals. I know that I will be the best governor in this country,” she boldly stated.

According to Channels Television, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stated that he is willing to step down from the 2027 presidential race under a specific condition. Obi made it clear during an interview that he would only withdraw if a credible and issue-based coalition is formed—one that genuinely prioritizes good governance and the future of Nigeria. He emphasized that such a coalition must not be built on personal interests or power-sharing arrangements but on a shared vision for national development.
