The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi. According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and sparked widespread public outrage.

The command said the influencer’s conduct posed a serious threat to public safety and required immediate intervention.

“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘PELLER’, subsequent to the viral video that surfaced online on Sunday 14th December, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users,” the statement said.

The police described the act as extremely dangerous, warning that it could have resulted in fatal consequences for both the suspect and other road users.

“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people,” the statement added.

The command disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.

“The case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department. The outcome of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will be charged to the court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the police said.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers and the general public against using online platforms to promote unlawful behaviour.

Count one of the two-count charge, titled “Publication of false news with intent to offend public peace, read, “That you, Ghali Ismail, Male, twenty-nine (29) years of Jogana village, Gezawa LGA, Kano State, on or about the 20th Day of July, 2025 and within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, did publish false information by uploading a video clip on your verified Tiktok handle (“bola-asiwaju”) wherein you falsely claimed that you reliably confirmed from official sources that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was critically ill, having been poisoned through his meal, with intent to cause public alarm and disturb public peace.

“You thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 418 of the Penal Code Act, Cap P3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”

Count two, “Inciting Disaffection to the Government,” read: “That you, Ghali Ismail, Male, twenty-nine (29) years, of Jogana village, Gezawa LGA, Kano State, on or about the 20th Day of July, 2025 and within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, did publish false information by uploading a video clip on your verified Tiktok handle (“bola-asiwaju”) wherein you falsely claimed that you reliably confirmed from official sources that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was critically ill, having been poisoned through his meal, with intent to bring contempt or incite feelings of disaffection against the person of the President. You thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 416 of the Penal Code Act, Cap P3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”

Presiding Magistrate Ekpeyong Iyang, after hearing arguments from both defence counsel and DSS prosecutors, denied bail and ordered that Isma’il be remanded in custody at Keffi until the next hearing.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to August 19, 2025.

Coroner Rules Out Foul Play in Mohbad’s De@th, Recommends Nurse’s Prosecution for Negligence.

The Coroner’s Court investigating the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has ruled out foul play or h%micide in the case. Delivering her findings on Friday at the Ikorodu Magistrate Court in Lagos, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi concluded that the singer’s de@th was not the result of any criminal act.

However, the coroner found that the actions of the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who administered an injection to Mohbad without a doctor’s prescription, were both unlawful and professionally negligent.

The court recommended that the nurse be prosecuted for gross negligence and illegal medical practice. Citing Section 29 of the Lagos State Coroner Law, Magistrate Shotobi urged the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to take up the case against the unlicensed nurse.

The coroner also called for further investigation into a prior petition by Mohbad against Naira Marley and Sam Larry, alleging a+sault and int+midation—issues that resurfaced during the inquest.

In addition, the court criticized Mohbad’s father for b¥rying him hastily without insisting on an autopsy, and faulted the singer’s wife for not taking him to the hospital promptly when he fell ill.

The court further noted that social media influencers and content creators had distorted facts about the case during the proceedings, in ways that could compromise the integrity of the judicial process. Lastly, the coroner recommended broader reforms, including improvements in healthcare service delivery and stronger responses from law enforcement to protect citizens.

Kano TikToker, Murja Kunya Sentenced to six months jail Term for Naira Abuse

The Kano Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 secured the conviction and sentence of social media influencer, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, before Justice Simone Amobeda of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano.

Kunya was arrested for allegedly spraying Naira notes for fun during her stay in a hotel room at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano. She was initially arrested in January 2025 for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Act which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of the Naira. She was granted an administrative bail by the Commission pending her arraignment before the Federal High Court in Kano. However, when it was time for her court appearance, she absconded in her bid to evade the legal processes.

However, after weeks of intensive investigation and surveillance, EFCC operatives successfully re-arrested the TikTok Influencer on Sunday March 16, 2025. She was subsequently arraigned on 20 May 2025 where she pleaded guilty to the one count amended charge.

The charge against Kunya reads: “You Murja Ibrahim Kunya on the 28th of December, 2023 at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court whilst dancing in one of the rooms at Tahir Guest Palace tampered with Naira notes issued by Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying and matching on same in the said occasion and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 21 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007”.

Following her guilty plea, counsel for the prosecution, Musa Isah reviewed the facts of the case and prayed the court to convict her accordingly.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Amobeda convicted Kunya and sentenced her to six months imprisonment with an option of N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira only) fine.

In a significant and rehabilitative dimension to the sentencing, Justice Amobeda also issued a consequential order appointing her as an Ambassador of EFCC and CBN in online advocacy campaigns against Naira Abuse due to her substantial following across various social media platforms.

This order mandates Kunya to utilize her social media reach to educate her followers on the importance of respecting the Nigerian currency and the legal consequences of its abuse or mutilation. #efcc
